The first time Khanyisa the albino baby elephant & Fishan the Bull touched💛💛 Flashback to 27 March

We love sharing unseen footage on Flashback Fridays - and this is one of our favourites!💛
An unseen clip with a very energetic 6-month-old Khanyisa racing over to the fence where Tokwe and Fishan were standing. Fishan stretched his trunk over to touch Khanyisa's sweet pink trunk through the fence. It was a somewhat "staccato" like touch - but very sweet.
The video was taken a few days before we started the steady integration with Khanyisa into the Jabulani herd. Her wounds had just fully healed, and it was just before the start of her successful journey where she now finds herself spending all of her days with them.

Ah, the early days of little Khanyisa's adventures! What a sweet and special moment. Who knew the love brewing inside these majestic beasts. What an absolute pleasure it has been for me to follow her story. It gives me life, just as you gave her a new lease on her life. Another page turned and look at them now. We can all learn something about acceptance from this elephant family. All strangers in the beginning but flowing with love and hope for the future.

Khanyisa was so excited that she had a little boo-boo, fall. I’ve been told that elephants can communicate with each other using a sound frequency that’s so low, that it can’t be heard by human ear. Although this interaction looked mostly visual and then the trunks touching. Who knows for sure? I enjoyed her shuffling around and flaring her ears and raising her tail. Precious moments in time. ❤️🐘❤️

Fishnan touched little pink Khamyisa like a blessing. She is looking so healthy by then and is ready for a new HERD family. He is saying, “We see you, little one.” She is a happy little soul with hopes of love and belonging rather than her past abandonment.

Sweet Fishan wanting to meet the new baby. All of the herd are special, but my gosh the adult bulls and their caring behavior toward the youngsters is just mind-blowing. Jabulani standing outside of Khanyisa’s enclosure wanting to meet her shortly after she arrived, Somopane stopping and waiting during a walk when she took a tumble, Timisa walking right up, not an ounce of hesitation, and nestling herself under big bull chins. There are many more examples, but those are just a few off the top of my head.

She was giddy with excitement and walked into that bush twice and fell over with sheer enthusiasm the little darling. When she was running to the fence....her little legs and that run of hers is so characteristic of her...like a trademark! She is so precious......she brings so much joy to watch her and I just cant stop smiling! I keep saying adorable because that is what she is. Thanks to all at HERD for this most important work of preserving this herd of amazing ellies👍👏🌼

Yes this is our sweet little pink baby with the most gorgeous pink ears. She’s so excited running after her meeting with Fishan, her legs couldn’t contain her joy and happiness. I love all the ellies there but she’s my little darling.

Interesting how Fishan took control and made sure he touched her and the other elephant backed off. Communication between them is amazing, no confusion or arguing. We can learn so much from them. Beautiful!

This moment is SO VERY SPECIAL. Thank you Adine and Herd for sharing it with us. I ADORE Tokwe and Fishan. Fishan, who is overcoming his own obstacles like anyone, has a certain child-like quality about him. He is this huge majestic stunning animal, yet so innocent at the same time. It's in his face if you really look. When he reached out and finally touched with Khanyisa, I can literally hear him saying, "Okkkkkkkkkkk, okkkkkkkkkk, here we gooo, here I come.. annnddddddd .................................boop!" Just a teeny contact, but so powerful and endearing. He seems to pull away, and it's actually KHANYISA you see being the forward one in a sense saying, "OK, COOOL LET'S TOUCH MORE NOW!!!! Hi!!!!!!!! Nice to meet ya!!!!!!" <3 Tokwe per usual, majestic, watching over. You can see it in their faces they have already accepted her and it's beautiful, but more than anything YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE in their personalities so clearly. What a lovely moment!
