Sanda throws: when you drop your opponent while maintaining ANY 1or 2 points of your body are on the ground or you recover immediately from a sacrifice throw by standing up = 2 points when you drop your opponent when 3 points of your body are on the ground or sacrifice throw = 1 point when you drop your opponent when there is no clear sign of who initiate the throw = 0 point

yeah the main point of why chinese kickboxing is more effective than thai boxing is WRESTLING. Wrestling is way more effective than thai clinch . so you can achieve that style by combining kickboxing with wrestling not even going to chinese kickboxing gym

According to FightCommentaryBreakdowns's description, Sanda was founded in 1979. it's thus interesting to note that the few students of Chan Sau Chung all beat full time muay thai pros in the Southeast Asia Open Martial Arts Tournament in the 60's and 70's. They modified Tai Shing Pek Kwar for sanctioned rules with gloves and modified their peks to punches. Some of them fought in very tall stances, and some fought in very low stances, both of which worked and his students were champions in separate years of the tournament. So, basing it on FightCommentary's information, this means when Grandmaster Chan Sau Chung trained his champions, sanda was NOT officially a thing, meaning they didn't use sanda, or not what we define it today.

Modern "San Da散打" is a Chinese style mixed martial art composed of various types of traditional Chinese martial arts and Western influences, including Shuai Jiao, Ba Ji Quan, 蔡李佛, 擒拿, ....etc, not merely Pek Kwar, not just one root. Originally, 散打 was just a loose term used to refer to all kinds of spar, duel and arena fighting(打擂台 Lei Tai) between any type of martial arts in Traditional Chinese Martial Arts category, including spars with weapons, it was not a name of martial art nor a singular systematic martial art nor a combat sport until 1980s.

Sanda is simply kickboxing with judo throws and wrestling takedowns. I find it funny when people claim its a modernised version of a effective ancient Chinese martial art, lol
@孔方兄-r6e Жыл бұрын
@@mrt445 Wow such fabulous sophisticated "insight", you invented it by yourself or you read it on internet? Have you even practiced SanDa yourself? SanDa literally is modernized version of Chinese martial arts, there are sanda techniques literally share same names and styles with traditional CMA, such as 斧刃腳, and the grappling / wrestling techniques are derived from Shuai Jiao and Chin Na , not Judo. The punches, kicks, even elbows strikes all have counter-parts in traditional CMA, sanda kicks are the same as 壇腿、戳腳, punches are same as 蔡李佛、羅漢拳, elbows are same to 八極拳、形意拳. The downside is modern sanda incorporates too many western style competitive sport influences which make it looks out of place.

Jerry, Have you seen the Han Lei (sanda) vs Samkor (muay thai) fight, which I think may have happened at this same event or similar one. Samkor I believe wins that fight, but Han Lei keeps spamming this interesting single catch to take down. Samkor was known as having a legendary left roundhouse, so to me it was amazing anyone would even attempt to catch it, let alone counter it with a sanda throw.

What bothers me about MT is the fact that they say "no wrestling/Judo throws" in their ruleset, yet they have clinch holds, and sweeps. Like, hello? How is neckholds not wrestling? At least with Sanda, it's like "Oh, there's neckholds and sweeps? Ah, fulk it, add more wrestling in there." and it seems to be the most complete **STAND UP** style of fighting as well.

Personally, I wouldn't take these matches too seriously because they were organized by the Chinese government to promote Sanda (and intentionally make Muay Thai look inferior). The rules were obviously changed in favor of the Sanda fighters with no elbow strikes or neck clinches allowed, and the level of the Thai fighters was low. Judging by how defensive most of them were, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd been told to go easy or take a dive either.

Sanda was getting destroyed in these matches. This was one of the exceptions.
