He is very correct. Appreciate all stages of the puppy.
@Nise_R2 ай бұрын
Agree! Such true words 💜. We can never rewind so enjoy the puppy stage as much as you/we can and just laugh instead of get angered because they age far too quickly and the years will fly. Everything is new to them and they are just excited for being.

You are so right. I remember when my son was a toddler and into everything. My husband and I referred to him as HMB (high maintenance boy). My father, who was about 60 years old then, was watching me from the couch. He said something to me that stopped me in my tracks and put an end to my impatience, and getting frustrated. He said, "These ARE the good old days". The time will come when you'll be looking back on right now, and thinking, "I miss my son being little". Now that my dad has passed, and my son is grown, I can see even better how short each window of time is. So, when you get tense, when they eat your new shoes, remember, "These are the good old days". They pass very quickly, and you only have each stage for a brief window, because everything comes to pass. Nothing comes to stay.

Robert I was so lost when I first brought home my malinois. I used to ask you questions weekly in the Q&A and your feedback helped us get through the first year. Now at 19 months after a year of training we passed the service test and my boy is a fully certified Service Dog, not a small feat for such a high drive dog!, and he’s coming on a cross country flight with me in a week. Bless you Robert, and THANK YOU!!! And congrats on the new puppy!!!

SO love to see Robert Cabral on the shorts .and lovely to see Goofy rockin his coolness as he does . His training vids are how l trained my girl GSD and also helped me out majorly with softening some of my older adopted boy GSD who l took on from 2yrs old .that was more than 6 years ago. I ALWAYS recommend his vids ,even if its just to educate ppl about dogs and theyre behaviours

Damn. This man has more patience and love for this pup than most parents have for their own children. If they adopted this mentality I think a lot of parents would be less worried and stressed and frustrated and truly enough their kids
@honorclarkescatacomb672 ай бұрын
That's because we already have the mentality that we have to train dogs; but most people assume that children will just know "how to be good". One thing my father taught me when my son was born was, "Never punish a child for doing something wrong, unless you have first invested he time to train them how to do it right". Children are literal. Before every new event: going food shopping, going to a restaurant, or your friend's house, you have to walk them through what it will be like, what you expect, what they can do, and can't do. Most people just issue the nebulous "Be good", and then expect them just to sit quietly like a suitcase while you do whatever; then when the child touches something, goes somewhere, etc., they say, "Didn't I tell you to be good?" and punish them. What does BE GOOD mean to a child? Something completely subjective that, chances are great, isn't going to match what YOU mean when you say Be Good.

Good to see you, the pup, and this topic! Reflecting on when I first received my Corso he was 2 months old, he’s almost 2 years old now. I’d never had a puppy, only adults from the SPCA. Though he tested me often and I was not perfect, at least I kept my promise of not being the parent who raised me. With me, my pup loves rough play because he knows we are playing. To all who are considering a puppy or having a child, confront yourself and know your demons so you do not become one for someone else.

My dog is a year and 5 months old. We got her when she was 10 months old! It has been such a journey, and having patience helps! Every day, we play with her, give her lots of love, cuddles, kisses, and we always tell her we love her! When we have to go to work, we get right on her level, and explain that we will be back, that she's a good girl, we just have to go to work. We give hugs and kisses and keep repeating that she's a good girl and we love her. Sometimes she seems to understand, sometimes she finds things that she can easily rip up. Either way, life with a dog is such a blessing and shouldn't be taken for granted, even on those really frustrating days!

No truer words were ever spoken. When i took in my second dog it was a really big experience for me, since the first dog i got was essentially left to me but now i had the pick of the litter and i picked the most rambunctious female, she is now almost 3 years old and looks like a big puppy and still has some of the antics

Not sure why I saw your post, but it happened for a reason. I have a new MAL puppy, and I have a 2 1/2 yr old MAL that I trained and raised since she was 12 wks young. I really love that you focused on what we should try to enjoy in the “puppy stages”! Often find myself frustrated when the puppy behavior is not what I have trained them on, nor what I would like. I infrequently (NOW) forget that they don’t know how to act, and they are just BABIES!! Thank you for reminding us about this wonderful time in our lives, and to try to enjoy every moment we have with these beautiful beasts! ❤
