I have to say, even though I really like your niche of being a reviewer who goes for 100% runs, I would still love to know your opinion on titles that you couldn't or didn't finish for whatever reason. It is very common that achievements can be stupidly grindy, and I honestly can't imagine ever holding it against you for not doing that before releasing a review.

Ditto. Some of the achievements are just plain unreasonable. I love Mortismal's reviews b/c I know he's not just trying to crank out a review on the newest release, and I really respect that he does his due diligence as a reviewer. Definitely make allowances for games w/o 100% achievement.

Well he does also do "Impressions" videos, though those seem to come up _on the way_ to his 100% runs rather than used to cover games he _won't_ 100%. I would like seeing him expand the use of those Impressions videos to cover games he doesn't feel like 100%'ing and using those as de facto reviews for those titles... as long as he mentions why he couldn't finish them or was not going to 100% them. You're right, there's value in knowing those reasons.

Games with multiplayer achievements tend to be an automatic 'nope' from me. I'll play the other content but won't go out of my way for the achievement. E.g. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel had a Ghostbusters styled level with an achievement for having 4 players present. This is why I feel it should be mandatory to patch in Bots if online services ends up going under. If not that, then they should patch the online trophies to unlock on start up. It was designed to break the consumers patience with the grind and succumb to making 1 or 2 purchases to gain the necessary gear. One of the most egregious of their horrible decisions was to include DLC to honor the deceased developer Michael Forgey with proceeds to go towards his family... only to reveal it was only partial proceeds. Then we got to the epilogue, and I was practically in heaven: I had a joy with each session I took with each siege mission, never spent a cent on the live stuff, and saw it through to the very end. To me Shadow of War is one of the most underrated games of the last generation. It is easily in my top 10. The combat is excellent, the build variety isn't huge but it's kinda deep with a lot of different playstyles, the execution animations in this game are absolutely second to none and while Mount and Blade takes the cake for the best and most immersive "war simulator" I'd say Shadow of War is the closest mainstream gaming got, the sieges are awesome. And of course... the nemesis system and pit fights that almost create a sub-layer of pokemon gameplay if you want to give it a go. I spent a lot of time farming for the orcs with the skills I wanted. All that said I played it after they removed the microtransactions so to me it was a normal game. Ironically enough I wanted the last act to be longer than it became after the rebalancing of the late game. And now because of you I'm thinking of reinstalling it and playing it again lmao.

The Shadow of X games have some very deep flaws, but the Nemesis system is amazing, I don't think I've seen anything just invent plot lines no one else had for me in a game. I still remember one Orc lieutenant I'd keep defeating but he'd somehow survive, more scarred and angry each time, by the end he looked like a half Terminator Orc. His sole mission in life was a burning intense hatred of me and he sought me out constantly. Finally one time he ambushed me during a Ring-Wraith fight and after an intense battle I finally took his head off and that was the end of him.

I played Demon's Souls off and on for roughly 7 years. It went from being a game I never thought I'd even beat to one I not only did, but completed 100%. I don't do that for a lot of games, and the fact I did for that is still one of my proudest achievements. It's become my favorite game in the series and probably on the PS3, as well.

I beat demon souls on ps3 but getting it on ps5 this year i can not get passed the storm world 2 or 3, i either gotta grind hard or run passed those rolling skeleton clowns while avoiding the sky fish

@@High_Bread Any kind of ranged helps with the sky mantas. I inched my way along the cliffs sniping the little bastards before engaging the skeletons. Magic's great for it, but if you're strictly melee you might want to grind just so you can use a bow.

Drakengard. I got like 97-99%. There's multiple endings starting around 70% if I remember right. Almost every one is morbid and depressing. My friend told me to look up the final ending because I would be so mad for wasting my time for it. He was right. I've played a few games that have disappointing endings, but I don't think anyone's gonna top MULTIPLE disappointments in a single game.

I don't blame you for giving up on XV. The Royal Edition dlc felt like pure padding in terms of trophies and the Ignis and Arden DLC had a trophy each that felt pretty brutal since they were score related. The fight specifically between Noctis and Ignis felt like having to relearn how combat works just to even make it through. Proud to say I soldiered through however, currently sat as my highest earning game on TrueTrophies though I can't say it's one I'll be revisiting anytime soon. Gutted they cancelled the Noctis, Lunafreya and Aranea DLCs, could've done so much in terms of expanding the game's story. Absolute BS that they made Comrades a standalone however, meaning that if you hadn't already finished it, the base game is technically incompletable with the multiplayer trophies unless you're able to perform some ridiculous proxy workaround to play it offline.

I didn't 100% this game, but I did beat it. That game is Cathedral. It's a really challenging metroidvania sidescroller that took me to my absolute limit of skill to beat. The game was a lot of fun but stupid hard after a certain point. And it was fair.

While I don’t plan to 100% all my games, o do get 100% on most. And in general, the games that put me off 100% are usually because they have silly/dumb multiplayer trophies. Be it TLOU 1 original. Factions mode isn’t worth it. Or Bioshock 2 and the dead online mode. Or even Killzone in general but most importantly shadowfall, which lost its online service and is now imposible to 100%.

The original Demon's Souls (my favorite game) has one achievement I was barely able to get. It's the 'collect all unique weapons' trophy. One of these weapons drop from a very tough enemy in the valley of defilement, a poison swamp. This enemy's weapon is fast cannot be blocked, so you have to roll through their attacks. However you cannot roll (nor sprint) while standing in the poison part of the swamp. She's on a little patch of land you can roll on, but you have to be careful to not roll into the poison because rolling in poison puts you in a long stagger animation. Getting to this enemy from either starting point takes around 2 minutes. This enemy can run and roll freely in the poison too. One other thing going against me was that all 4 of my characters were in high ng+ levels, the lowest being ng+6 iirc (you only get 4 character slots). So she was killing me in 1 or 2 hits with this fast sword. After many hours of trial and error across each of my characters, I got lucky enough to whittle her down by knocking her down continuously with a large sword (dos2 style). It took a while because I kept messing up the timing between swings and needing to eventually heal because of the passive poison damage I was taking. Bittersweet victory, but it worked. An honorable mention is killing old king Doran legitimately for his ring. He's got super smart a.i. Edit: for some reason, I couldn't quite remember the enemy's name and weapon. It's Black Phantom Selen Vinland wielding the sword 'Blind'.

I got throught about 3/4 of Witcher 2 and then got bogged down by the difficulty and stopped playing. I went back when Witcher 3 was about to be released and replayed the first and finished the Witcher 2 with the Blue Shirts. I am really glad I did. I love these titles. I was so disappointed in Cyberpunk 2077. It has a great story, but the game play just gets boring after a while.

For me, I do not try at all on the Tales Of series. I just play the story and I am happy. They all have the get skills to 5* achiev, and to do that you gotta use the skill around 8k-12k times, each character has about 30 skills or so. I did a playthrough from start to finish of the whole story I had 2 skills at 5* that I got from the start and used in my combos. Some achievements are absurdly too grindy and don't even feel like an achievement and more of a huge chore.

Kongregate! I also enjoy TDs as well, now mostly play them on mobile from time to time. I usually don't give up on games... just leave them for indefinite later XP As for games I manged to 100% in the end, I would like to mentioned two games: Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - it has multiplayer achievements, but even back then it had really small player base, so I couldn't just randomly go get them. I found people to get them with on Steam discussions. I ended up being in contact with one guy for years and we often traded sale cards... which reminds me I haven't spoken with for few sales, gotta change it! Torment: Tides of Numenera - it's a rare case when I did leave the game for some time and come back to 100% in the end. I made my first playthrough in first half of 2017 and got most of the achievements. Then I got all missing but one in 2018. And finally in 2021! I got the last one! And it's my most beloved/despised achievement: despised cause the things I had to very so in opposite of my usual playstyle and beloved, because I did get it and 100% in the end after 4 years since starting the game, also it's one of my rarest achievements

I grinded through Black Mesa, that game has 3 carry items, one from chapter 3 to the very end game, and one from chapter 10 I believe to end game. Then from chapter 14/15 onwards there was a third carry item, which albeit the third was only for a chapter or two added complexities when carrying two items. It's simply a try it and see for yourself. It was painful as the items are a hat a pizza box and a canister. If you like half life I'd recommend it.

I was going to 100% the OG Skyrim, but when one achievement bugged out and didn't unlock I downloaded a mod do activate it manually. Unfortunately I did something wrong and ALSO unlocked like 10 other achievements which I had not done. That ruined my motivation to do the rest of them because I knew that I had (unintenionally) cheated. Thinking about buying the SE version when it's on sale just to do it properly.

Ha, interesting. Except Final Fantasy (never been a fan) I actually 100% all of those. I even held #1 on the leaderboard in Orcs Must Die! 2 on some maps for a while, notably the very first one, even e-mailed their customer service to clean leaderboards of cheaters for me. And they did, on one DLC map I went from #3 to #1. Game is super, super fun to grind for points with a friend, it's like an entirely different game. With 1 dead orc , if you knew what you were doing, you could get more points than people playing normally get through the entire map and you send literally dozens orcs at the same time through a killbox. You get to see a blob of 20+ orcs all flying through the air and when they land in the grinders entire screen fills with points in hundreds of thousands or millions a pop. Crazy fun.
