I agree about Swansong. I was pumped for more VtM stuff but this was a big swing and a miss. I can't help but feel they had larger plans for branching the story beyond the bare bones but decided to trim it out and release it as it was. Maybe that was me being too hopeful for a deep dive.

Nowadays, I'm old enough to never be disappointed. There is almost nothing I'd buy at launch, because by now I know the modern AAA (often even AA) hype cycle. I'm also immune to FOMO, so I'd rather work on my backlog now and buy all those games that came out in 2022 probably in a year or two when they're going to be heavily discounted and there is enough information out on whether it's worth it or not. Of course, this strategy only works due to reviewers who actually do test the waters. And there will always be some exceptions to the rule (looking at you, Dwarf Fortress!)

The DLC adds a nonlinear campaign which allows you take what you learned in the main campaign and really just have way more fun. My most disappointing game I played this year was Lost Ark, when I saw the game years ago I was hyped..it was tempered when I found it was going to be more mmo but having played it I wish it was a more traditional action RPG, the mmoisms really ruin it for me
@zaccanasta-r3l2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I think that all the mmo mechanics simply add a layer of complexity and confusion that is not needed in this game. There are too many resources (most of them useless), too many confusing quest, too many icons on the map (city map is a mess), too many mechanics for character building that is not clear at all. Before i was thinking that path of exile is a bit confusing, but after playing lost lark, path of exile is a walk in the park.

It goes to show that no matter how good a game can look from the outside, after some time it's really the core gameplay that makes it or not. Lost Ark is very satisfying and smooth at first, with great sensations in combat and good visuals but the core combat structure is not well thought, the gear progression system is annoying and RNG, and the endgame daily routine is not engaging.

About the Elex 2 part. I honestly think "copy pasting" shouldn't be a big deal. I think it's a huge waste when game companies work countless hours on assets for just a one game, and have to start all over again for the next instalment. I would gladly have the sequels of my favorite games just recycle the assets, while focusing on the new story and making the gameplay improvements and adding new "innovations" to the gameplay. Then again, I haven't played the Elex-series, so I can't tell how bad it really is :D
@Perfidion2 жыл бұрын
I think the copy-pasting makes sense in Elex 2, at least in terms of the map. I mean, it's set on the same planet. You're not going to get some vast geological upheaval going on in-between games, (unless the plot dictates that). I finished Elex, and I'm about 10 hours into the sequel. One thing they have worked on (finally, and much to my relief), is making the combat less janky. It's still janky because a Piranha Bytes game without jank isn't a Piranha Bytes game, but the hit boxes are better, and the animations are more fluid. Melee combat is now considerably less frustrating. (And flying around with the jet pack is ridiculously fun.) I am disappointed they nerfed the Clerics and the Outlaws, but I guess if the Berserkers came out on top, and the Morkons have risen from the ashes of the war between the Albs and the Free People, then every conflict has winners and losers. I'm having fun. As Mortym said, the game is not without its flaws, but it's still really engaging if you're into that sort of thing.

You got the new and old factions in Elex 2 mixed up. The small side factions are the old ones from Elex 1 (Clerics and Outlaws), while the big ones besides the Berserkers are "new" (well, the Albs already existed, but they weren't joinable). There was one major change that made me like 2 much better than 1 though. It's actually viable to play as a pure Berserker mage and magic is much better fleshed out than it was in Elex 1.

Hey Mortismal! So I know this comment is not related to the video BUT I know you read most, if not all your comments so I thought I would share something I found with you. So as you have mentioned before, I know diablo 2 is a comfort game you you and I both. I recently have been playing D2R on my switch before bed to wind down and remembered that I owned D1 but have never played more than an hour of it or so. So yesterday I googled diablo 1 mods and found a FANTASTIC mod called "The Hell 2". This mod for d1 turns it into a much more modern game that still feels like d1 at its core. It now has 6 classes plus subclasses to bring it to a total of 29 classes! It adds more floors to the dungeons, crafting, sockets, it adds glove and boot slots, new items with unique art, QoL addtions such as redone UI for things like shops that makes it the grid box like your inventroy and the way the shops look in d2, a stash (d1 had you drop items on the floor lol), enemy health bars, and now you can hold left click to attack (because in d1 you had to tap the left click like madman) new music, cut content including quest, new spells, hotkeys for your abilities, multiple difficulty options and sub options to make it easier or harder and a ton more I cant list here. BUT MOST IMPORTANLY, it adds PERKS and SYNERGIES to the leveling process as well as starting game TRAITS like fallout. Now when you level up instead of just specing your attribute points, you now get to pick a PERK every level and every few levels your get a synergy point which allows you to get a higher level perk. Perks require the right attribute points to purchase and synergies require that you have the right perks to purchase the synergy. What really impressed me is how HIGH quality this mod feels as well. Nothing feels lackluster and they have "meticulously balanced" the game and it shows. I know you are definitely busy so I dont expect you to make a video on it, but at minimum I thought it might give you another option for your relaxation time in place of d2. IMO it makes d1 feel closer to d2 than anything. I have REALLY been enjoying the mod. lastly, when I randomly googled d1 mods yesterday and found this, it also got a update on December 3rd! talk about great timing! There is a moddb page but the download speed for me said it would take like 2 weeks. The mod a a patreon page that has a mirror with more detailed install instructions that worked like a charm for me! I hope you enjoy! For me this was an extremely pleasant surprise! It was the game/mod I neve knew I wanted haha!

Elex 2 also suffered from a terrible last few acts, literally go here and kill 50 enemies and repeat the exact same process multiple times. I liked the jetpack upgrade for ease of transport but conversely I think it may have impacted the exploration aspect in the later game as I would rocket to objectives instead of looking around. Having the fuel limited makes the player take stock of surroundings, but now that they have introduced the uncapped mechanic, it will likely continue as such into the next title.

The main thing I hated about ELEX 2 was how they gutted the character system. In ELEX 1 the random consumable alb magic items had more variety than the entire alb magic skill tree in ELEX 2. Clerics were completely gutted and all of their powers simply removed from the game, and Berserker magic also became a lot more one note. If there was one thing they should have copied it was the character system, and then added onto it. Instead they made a much shallower and worse one.

While i liked the artstyle, the fact that your class determined the body-features was the first thing i disliked (i seriuously loath the cartoonish buffed torso withe small, stubby legs but hey, if you wanna be a warrior you gotta have to look that way). Everything about the combat felt so... Dragon Age, without any polish and modernisation. Though i like DA its combat was never the best. Not tactical enough for a tactical Rpg, with a cumbersome camera and bad pathfinding... and all that applies to Waylanders. Plus the oversized empty hubs and maps with no fast-travel. If you like holding "W" for five minutes to get from point a to b, while passing by a few static npcs in a world that seems so dead and empty... then this game is for you. The party-formation-system was a good idea but neither good explained nor good implemented. All in all, Waylanders is what you get when you order Dragon age on wish.

The most disapointing one is... don't shoot... Pathfinder wrath of the righteous.. not that the game is awfull. I like the NPCs, the story. But the difficulty is non sense. Way too many overpowered ennemies coupled with a really pain in the a... dice mechanisms throwing more often number under 10 or over 17 than it should. The laws of statistics are here just flouted. Making the game unplayable without quite a few rage quit when on a serie of 5+ to hit attack I got 4 misses for one hit. Kingmaker had already such a flaw but there it seems to have worsen. As for my favourite. Well not a discover in fact but more of a rediscovery. It"s Cyberpunk 2077. I've loved the game since day one. And the new patch 1.6 just made it even more enjoyable.

Absolutely agree with Dying Light 2. I find it very hard to keep playing even though I have hundreds of hours in Dying LIght 1. I feel that the RPG mechanics in the second game get into the way of the gameplay and the fun of the game. The first game didn't have these issues.

I think Elex 2 was amazing how they made a all around worse looking game and then put in flashbacks to the first game. Everytime I saw the first games flashbacks I was like oh yeah... that's why I'm not liking this the way I thought I would, because it's a worse game.

I used to complete every game I started (not 100%) but this yr was the first time I would simply stop myself becasue the games were plain boring. A lot of them are from last yr, maybe older but no other word is needed to describe the exp. Outer Worlds-Tried for the 2nd time and the writing is trash and the combat and world was just...boring. We Happy few- there is a great game here, just not this one, again boring. Mortal Shell- I love all the souls like clones and this was by far the worst experience. Boring in every way. Dishonored 2- DH1 is one of my favorites that i have played thru multiple times(keep getting jerked on the no death run) but this feels completely off. Love the world, but the story did not grab me at all. Control- While I like the combat and the world, the story is awful and the writing was from someone who wrote technical books for a living. Also, can remedy make a game world with somthing in it, one time, just try.

Ghostwire caught my attention then when the gameplay trailer came out..nope. Tiny Tina was a letdown for me, the framerate options weren’t that great, borderlands 3 was better and you could run it maxed out on series x/ps5

One of the biggest disappointment ever for me was pillar of eternity 2 for PS4. The loading times were just ridiculous - I hated when I reached a new city and have to explore it because every building U entered/left comes along with two 1min loading screens .

elex 2 was heavily promoting creation of new faction but by the end of the game you have less than minimum to even consider it to be first act of such subject and second part was meant to be defeat of alien faction and it also bareilly begins canonical choices were really disappointing not just for romance but also survival of certain characters main focus was on mechanical and faction changes as well as making playable alb fantasy real in the end i would call elex 2 either downgrade or cut content in early stages of production

Throw in my 2 cents, since 2014 pretty much most games are a disappointment, for a few that's a understatement. This will continue to get worst, the ppl whom own or run them game company never ever play a single game, at least not long enough to know the essence of the art. As such they will burn the gaming sector to the ground its not their hobby after all. Just look at the so called phone game, its getting even worst at the rate 200% each passing month. I have no doubt it will spill over to other parts of gaming.

my problem with ghostwire was how bland and repetitive the combat was. you have this absurd amount of potential, that is squandered in a very puzzle like borderline simon says when it comes to dealing with enemies. the game felt like such a massive disapointment as you just had a cookie cutter recipe to deal with each threat, and there's little to no reward in trying to deviating from that.

I loved dying light but dying light 2 seems different and it feels different too. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something about it. I haven't played much of it. I'm not saying dying light 2 isn't good. It is a pretty good game, but part 1 is way superior in my opinion.

The Diofield Chronicles was an absolute blue balls. I didn't "hate" it per say but the entire story felt like it was rushed, the combat was absurdly repetitive and the late game ......sucked. Then i told myself that maybe NG+ may be more of a challange but nope......you fight level 1 mobs with fully equipped, maxed level characters which renders replayability, pointless. I really wanted to enjoy the title but alas ball dropped, interest lost.
