It's part of women's nature to fall in love with their captors. Goes back to tribal days when invading Men would kill all the Men and take the Women. Women had to evolve the ability to bond to new Men quickly or else they were killed. Just an interesting fact.

Actually, he did love her. It was genuine and real, something he never expected at all. Also, I don't think he was trying to kill her, more than likely trying to knock her out. His emotions were all over the place and he was a mess when Caitlin left. He unfortunately has abandonment issues so Caitlin leaving him to go back to Team Flash hurt him more than he cared to admit.
