Hello and welcome to part 2 of my Flash retrospective! I got it done surprisingly quickly, so here it is! Similarly to the last one, it's very long as I had a lot to say about the last 3 seasons left to cover. I hope you all enjoy, and I'd like to see all of your thoughts in the comments!

I understand why it would fall flat considering the very lazy fakeout, and I would've much rathered a storyline where they had to rescue him from the speed force, but they wasted it in season 4. in the end, the buildup has no payoff, but ignoring that, season 6a is peak

I just love how a good majority of the flash community agrees that the show continues to worsen as it progresses. The entire flash show is essentially a rollercoaster of emotion of satisfaction and frustration.

i love how you manage to show of your points, point out the dumb behavior and yet not make it seem like you are destroying the writers.

S6A was literally the best thing in the graphic novel storyline. The issue was…. It did so well we believed that they would ALWAYS be that good, resulting in us having more issues w/ that planning.

honestly, godspeed is the most depressing villain. SO much potential. Its not the actors fault but the story and his writing. I can deal with the shotty cgi but in the comics August Heart worked with Barry and is pretty much a “what if barry went evil”. They could have really let the fans get to know the man August Heart if they used that side of the character. Also if they had used the speedforce storm to make all the speedsters like in the comics Godspeed coulda drained all of them and could have really made it mysterious for the non comic book fans

There really was. I think they should've just changed his motivation post crisis. They don't even need the storm, they could've just had a situation where August went back in time wanting to save his brother. And then that could've been an interesting situation where Barry gets close to August and tries to convince him not to, but they end up fighting. It would be really interesting to see a situation where Barry has to fight to stop someone from saving a life

@GingerAI I do not see the appeal of God Speed. He is just Jason Todd, except as a speed villain. With the exception of Eobard, all speed villains are boring and a waste of time.

The reason why Smart Barry didn't attack Eva during 7x02 was due to the fact that he couldn't risk getting the tachyon harmed in any way, shape or form. That's also the reason why he didn't save Frost in the same episode, he couldn't risk having the tachyon device being damaged even if the chances of damaging the tachyon was down to decimals.

I understand this explanation, and I can accept it, but something I just thought of is: Barry wasn't emotionless at this point. Its my understanding that he came to the conclusion that he shouldn't help Frost because of the risk of damaging the device. However, before he stops to think about that, he is shown to impulsively try to help her. He prepares to run, but then stops and thinks. As far as I understand, before that point, he could've and should've tried to stop Eva, but I get the point you made.

Amazing review. I’m so happy to find someone who agrees that 6A was amazing. The lead up to Crisis was so exciting, and the focus on character development and, in the end what the shows all about, Barry, had me more invested in the show than I had been for years. Although 6B wasn’t handled as well as it could’ve been, I really loved the overall feeling of the show. I didn’t mind Barry’s speed dying because it added so many stakes. The buildup to Crisis that has been the entire show and Barry casually avoiding his impending death was frustrating, however the fact that Oliver and the speed force were sacrificed for the creation of a new universe changed so many things for me. I truly enjoyed that, and I feel they handled Barry’s speed-loss well because for the most part, he relied on his instincts and intelligence more and really fleshed out his character, instead of just being Mr. Speedy. One of my favorite scenes in the entire show is when they form the artificial speedforce and the lightning strikes through the Speedlab into Barry running at a normal speed. It’s such a powerful moment. I loved Barry’s speed thinking arc, and the way the artificial speedforce was now a physical device that had to be “protected” in STAR Labs. The whole death of the speedforce arc shined a light on how Barry could be a hero without purely relying on speed, which has been an issue in the show since season one. What I can’t stand is that the artificial speedforce, and Wells’ sacrifice, only lasted one episode. Like that’s just awful. It could have been an entire season buildup where they explore his speed thinking and he subtly, slowly loses his emotions and relies on logic. An aspect where the artificial speedforce, being a physical machine, has to be protected, just as Barry dived in front of it when Cisco shot towards it. The way they push that all aside and do it over again after a single episode, and not to mention attempt the Forces arc, is hard to look back at. One last thing I wanna add, Ralph’s actor got fired for things in his distant past. That goes against everything the Arrowverse show’s are about; they all have characters that have troubled pasts and change, and are accepted for that. In fact, that’s exactly what RALPH’S CHARACTER IS. So I find that ironic.

The asf arc had so much potential, and then they just fixed it all in one episode... Wells sacrifice meant nothing, as timeless wells was born and then left just as fast. And the asf itself posed so many interesting things, only for it to be destroyed. Although, the speed thinking episode was still my favorite episode of that arc, and was a great conclusion, even if it meant that Wells' sacrifice meant nothing :,)

i remember 6a feeling so good because of how there was seemingly no downtime, I remember in one episode Bloodwork starts outlining his plan and in my head I figured we were at the end of the episode and this plan was going to happen throughout the coming weeks only to be surprised that the next scene showed him enacting said plan and that's when I realized how much better the pacing felt.

there was one filler episode during 6a, and even then, it still related to the character arc started in the episode before. When doing filler, it's a lot better to relate it to an existing plotline, rather than creating new plots specifically for these episodes... cough cough *everything to do with Cecile* cough cough

“The last temptation of Barry Allen” episodes are great but Infantino street is my favorite episode even though hr shouldn’t have told Savitar where Iris was. It would be so cool if team flash was talking about where iris was and savitar learned as Barry would have ran In when they said where Iris was. “Last temptation of Barry Allen” has less cons than Infantino street but Infantino street is in my favorite season and has my favorite villain.

watched part 1 andf was waiting for part two. I have been watching the flash since it comes out and the flash as a character has really made an impct on my life. Tbh with the forces story and the speedforce suddenly becoming evil i wish they had done something interesting with that. My idea would have been that reverse flash, zoom, savitar and rival having all used the speed force had tainted it and that has been slowly corrupting it, so barry and team flash has to fight off the attacking speedforce while having to find a way to set things right. Coming to only one choice, to split the speed force in two, positive and negative. As the negative side is killing the positive side and unless they do it barry, wally, jesse, jay and other good speedsters would forever lose their speed. So they separate the speedforce into two, one that looks like nora and is the good version and the other that resurrects reverse flash as its avatar.

Another thing, in season 1 we got build up about the future newspaper but yet when crisis does happen nothing is fucking affected hell Barry doesn’t even vanish, why not when crisis happened have Barry vanish having them trying to figure out how to bring Barry back omfg and only the paragons I was supposed to remember but yet again Becky remembers from last night, and I’m sure other people remember

Seems a fair assessment. It had good and bad moments. Personally Nora wasn't that bad, but Bart I really couldn't stand. Pretty much cringed every time he was on screen. Saying this Nora became more annoying in that season. Maybe it was "the Bart affect". I liked the show especially the first few seasons. Haven't seen nine and will watch it eventually although from what I've read I've very little interest.

Nora and Bart definitely suffer from the same issues, although I find Bart to be slightly more tolerable. I think that comes down to bias though, season 5 ruined Nora for me, so even in the newer seasons, I have a strong dislike of her character. The first 2 seasons are great, and imo 6 is also great, but the rest ranges from mid to really bad. 9 has been pretty bad so far.

It's really confusing because of the rules that other shows set up. according to batwoman, doppelgangers can exist, but can't coexist, so one of them has to die for the other to live. Idk how Barry's parents and Jay and Joan could both coexist for years, but that's seemingly the explanation

Btw I just wanted to point this out in 8x01 depsero was able to know which one was the speed mirage and not know in 8x05 is because in 8x05 Barry didn’t make a speed mirage because speed mirages do exactly the Same thing as the real speedster does in 8x05 they were moving differently like for example in 1x15 when thawne used a speed mirage in 2x05 when Barry used it and in 8x01 they were all moving they same way and they look like they’re phasing in 8x05 they didn’t look like they were phasing and they weren’t moving the same way sorry for repeating myself

Mirrors and Lies:so as for Positives is Visually Stunning,and Ralph has a Main Focus as He Should,and…and…I’m Sorry but I Can’t Defend this Second Half,the Citizen shouldn’t be more Important than the Flash,the 3 Part Episode of Kid Flash was Reduced to 1 because of Wallace and the Kid Flash Actor Scrapped It and basically Lied to Us and this was Before Covid,they Focused too Much on Iris,Cecile,Kamila,and Allegra,the Side Villains are Bad,the Characters are Done Poorly,they Redeemed Grood,they Kill of Nash to Sacrifice Himself for the Speed Force but Timeless Wells feels Pointless Especially to watch Happen Next Episode,Speed Thinking is the Flash most Important Power that this was what they Should have Adapted on the Comics however Team Flash and the Writers thought it was Broken so they compared this to the Thinker Destroying the Speed and Assassinated the Flash Completely as To make him Dumber,But those aren’t Compared with 2 Major Sins,the 1st being Genderbend Evan McCulloch the Second and Best Mirror Master into a Complete Joke on Eva McCulloch as She’s Wosrt than Cicada as Mirror Monarch has a Dumb Plan,Doesn’t have any Parallel with a Barry because it was Wasted on Iris,has a Terrible Suit that doesn’t Resemble the Mirror Master One without the Mask and the Lack of Orange that was Changed to Gold,the Mirror Dimension like BlackLion said is Fascinating that was Misused,and they could have Fixed this is they didn’t Genderbend Mirror Master and made the Joseph Carver Actor Evan McCulloch that’s a Billionaire,Leader of Black Hole,and is Playing Games with Team Flash more than the Thinker even Did but it was Wasted and the 2nd One that Truly Pisses Me Off to this Day is what CW Firing the Ralph Dibny Actor by a Old Tweet and the Next Day they Throw Him Away like Disney and Marvel Studios did with James Gunn and Eric Wallace,the Actors,and the Writers did NOTHING to Defend Him and his Farewell was So Disappointingly Dry that wasted his Arc and Rips the Heart of One of the Best and Funniest Characters in the Series with a Great Redemption Arc and because of this I have a Feeling Season 7 was Going to be Bad and I was Right with Spoiler Alert Sue Appeared on the Rest of the Seasons while I’m say Myself Were’s Raplh,Season 6 Started with a Bang but Ended Up as a Wimper on the Second Half and the Beginning of Season 7. Bloodwork was the only really good villain of the graphic novel era IMO (other than Thawne, but he was introduced before that era so I'm not really counting him despite the fact that he was the main villain of 2 of the 3 graphic novels in season 8). Black Hole was interesting but unfortunately they made Eva the main villain of that graphic novel instead of them. The Forces arc was the worst the show has ever been, Godspeed made for some fun action but was not really an interesting character, and Deathstorm didn't capture my interest since he was just some evil spirit instead of a real person. I am very optimistic that Cobalt Blue will be a really good villain too, though.

This would’ve been way better. OK hear me in my head. That takes place in season 4, how about instead of bringing Berry back right at the beginning we wait until maybe the mid season finale or maybe just the finale in general and make that season all about Wally and having him trying to live up to his mentor, do you remember that doppelgänger from season 2 of zoom? Well, in my head in season 4 he could become a comic accurate zoom and become Wally’s villain, I just really don’t like what they did with season 3 in general, and then maybe in season 4 when Barry comes back from the speed force they could get August heart to help them with Barry that would set up the Godspeed storyline, I would just say, get rid of Nora entirely for season 5 or at least give her a better writing

Wow what a video. However I do want to say something’s that you missed. At the end of season 8, Nora says “Gideon says Thawne isn’t anywhere in the timeline.” … what? Just think about that. If Thawne isn’t anywhere in the timeline than the show doesn’t exist. If he’s not in the timeline than he doesn’t go back to kill Barry’s mother. Also, if Jay Garrick and his wife are alive on earth prime what happened to Barry’s mom and dad? Do they just not exist? Are they different people? Ok here’s my ranking for the seasons: Worst - best Season 7 (2/10) Season 5 (6/10) Season 3 (6.5/10) Season 8 (7/10) Season 4 (7.2/10) Season 6 (8.5/10) Season 2 (9/10) Season 1 (10/10) Something else I want to point out is how much the villains matter. Villains from seasons 1-6 have emotional attachment which was good. But in season 7 Godspeed just kinda wanted to run fast. And season 8, this mortal combat villain has no emotional attachment except Caitlin bride garbage. And if they are negative forces, how could they not be negative, we don’t grow to see their attachment to Barry like Thawne, someone that would do anything to live like bloodwork, or even getting revenge on his daughter and husband like Eva and Cicada. It’s just, their evil. And that’s it. I have some other nit-picks like Godspeed not having flickering lighting on his suit like season 5 and 6 but that’s about it. This was an amazing video and I can’t wait for your video about red death 💀 and season 9 all together.

You bring up interesting points. I didn't consider Nora's comment, but yeah, that is really dumb. And the Crisis doppelganger thing is also pretty dumb. I think it was established that there can be 2 of the same person, but only for a little bit of time? so if Henry and Nora both died, then Jay and Joan can exist with no issue. Also, I agree. Most of the villains in season 8 especially are just "mwahaha, Im evil." Deathstorms entire motivation is "life is an abnormality, other than Caitlyn." The villains and the show are at their best when the villains have interesting emotional connections to Barry. Thawne, Zoom, even Ramsey posed a really good parallel/contrast to him.

season 8 is the only season i didnt watch in its entirety as it aired (i watched armageddon as it aired and then there was the break) because I was just too busy that I eventually got around to it shortly after it finished airing , and so my outlook on the arcs felt different than normal because some arcs (like the forces one) feel so drawn out and pointless especially when you're waiting a week between episodes. That being said the deathflame or whatever the evil firestorm thing was called was easily my least favourite arc in s8 because even though i was able to watch the entire arc in one sitting, it still felt completely pointless

the deathstorm arc is definitely an odd one as all of its 6 episodes are somewhat pointless. the start is very promising, then the following 2 episodes were dedicated to learning things that werent all that interesting. The cold fusion thing? We found that out in episode 8. the grief thing? That was just a stupid theme that wasn't explored in any meaningful way. Then, they stop the threat in episode 11, release it again, introduce the full threat in 12, and then stop it in the next episode. In the span of 3 episodes they: stop it, set it free, and then stop it *again.* It's so pointless and drawn out
