There is earthquake activity around the country at times, including in the 'flat' areas. Yes, Oz is an ancient land and we do have many volcanoes but they are extinct. And the plates from other parts of the world are moving and impacting upon Australia.

I’m aware of that, however Australia doesn’t experience the massive quakes that are associated with the edges of continental shelves. Overall, Australia is very geologically stable, hence why it’s landscape is so ancient and flat.
