Huge number one hit, about as smooth a voice as you'll ever hear. "Mr. Blue" and "Tragedy" are two other favorites.

A trio of high school students from Olympia, Washington. Gary Troxel was originally recruited as a trumpet player but soon provided the male voice for their harmonies. Very Chet Baker-ish, no? Anyway, their string of hits ended when Gary had to fulfill his military obligations by joining the Navy at the end of 1961. Their other big hit was "I'm Mr. Blue." Thanks Daniel and Harri.

Absolutely a beautiful memory from 1959 originally titled Come Softly. This was recorded at home a Cappella, with the rhythmic shaking of Troxel's car keys for the beat, then it was sent to LA where the instrumental accompaniment was added along with an acoustic guitar. It made it to Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100's. It has been covered by many and used in movies, such a great tune. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Daniel. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

The original title was thought to be too suggestive so they added "to me" into it.

In October of 1970, I received the best birthday gift ever for my sixth birthday. My dad gave me a portable phonograph & a travel case of 45 r.p.m. he had collected since he was a teen. This song was among hundreds in that case. Dad & I gifted each other music many times over the years that followed. Thanks for the reminder, Harri!

Harri, what a nice older song to play! I could sing along with it since I grew up with that song, as it played over and over on the radio. Another great song by them, that hit the high charts, was Mr. Blue. See of you can find that song. PS. I am still waiting to hear a response from my email! Or do you respond to people in general?

Wow, I remember dancing to this at Saturday night dances when I was 13! Another one of their hits was "Mr Blue", which was also a great song. A similar group. Thomas Wayne and the DeLons, also released a song called "Tragedy" that hit #5 on the charts in the same year as this song. A couple of years later the Fleetwoods released a cover of that song and it also made the top ten at #10!

so many different layers on this track the harmonies are so tight and smooth and if you listen careful you can hear the guitar and double bass underneath it all. love the way the lead vocals and harmonies switch from male to female and back again so effectless
