What a wonderful relationship between you and the local thrift store, Carol! Your silk floral designs are probably the highlight of their displays, and it's a wonderful way to use the materials that have been donated there. Thank you very much for sharing your skills and knowledge for such a good cause. We are very happy that you could join us for Flower School Live and hope that we'll see you whenever you can drop by again. I've heard of using allium (I hope that's how its spelled) but I took a floral class a couple months ago and the teacher gave us a tip that when we cut the hydrangeas to also kind of cut about and inch if the skin off the bottom of the diagonal cut from the stem to have the hydrangea take up more water and it doesnt wilt too fast as well as the allium...

Where do you buy alum? I've used hydrangea from a friend's garden and it was droopy, despite putting flower food in the pail where I stored it overnight. I'm still a hobby florist, gifting it to friends.
@FlowerSchool
@FlowerSchool 2 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent question, Kay! Alum is a pickling spice and can usually be found in the spice section of a supermarket. If you dip your hydrangeas in it, it helps them to drink more water so they will be fresh and beautiful. If you cannot find alum at the market, we also have it available on our website here: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_17&products_id=1245 Thank you very much for taking the time to watch our show. I watch and love your programs but I watch it from client's point of view since I do not plan to have a flower shop. 😄 I noticed leftover materials and broken flower being used. I would hate to be the client to buy that. This is the reason why I just buy my flowers at local farmers market and put them in a vase. Don't worry, I put them in the vase tastefully. 😁 I love flowers and I want to learn how to arrange them, therefore I watch your program. Thank you for all the great ideas and inspiration 🌷
@FlowerSchool
@FlowerSchool 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback, LA Woman! We appreciate that you take the time to watch our shows. Floral designers find uses for different kinds of materials. For example a rose bud whose stem has snapped but the flower is still fresh and beautiful could become part of a corsage. We do hope you are enjoying your flowers from the farmer's market. Fresh from the farm is a great way to enjoy good quality flowers at home. Hope you have a lovely weekend and please join us again when you can!

@@FlowerSchool Flower arrengments are expensive and when I order one I want to know i did not get the broken rose. In fact when I bought a flower arrengment for mother's day it looked like it was all made of left over flowers. I know this because it did not look like anything other clients were posting on social media. I let it go tho. Every arrengment is is an advertising, so quality is important and the risk of broken flower and dry leaves doess not worth the price. And please, whoever reading this, do mot sell that to me.
@FlowerSchool
@FlowerSchool 3 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right, LA Woman! And we are so sorry to hear that the arrangement you purchased for Mother's Day wasn't beautiful as you had hoped it would be. We believe in floral design that is lovely from start to finish, and one of the best ways to achieve that objective is to use good quality materials and process them properly with fresh water and flower food when they first arrive. Thank you for letting us know how you feel. We appreciate your presence on our shows and hope that you will continue to join us often, whenever you can. All the best to you!

Thank you for all good programs. Can you tell us the price of each arrangement that you are making.It really will help me for pricing in my shop. Thank you
@FlowerSchool
@FlowerSchool 3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question, Parvin! It's a little tricky to do because the retail price you choose has to do with the wholesale cost of your materials (flowers, foliage, and hard goods) and then your labor as well. The formula you choose to use will also depend on the market in your area and the kind of pricing that works best there. We have several videos on pricing that may help you and here are a couple of them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpDOn6WCjZ2opdk and kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZ3WqnemmNh3r7s Thanks so much for taking time to watch our show and please do join us again. We expect to cover the topic of pricing often in future shows. Wishing you all the best for a very Happy New Year and beyond!

That's an excellent question, Brenda! There are different ways to go and Leanne share some of them on a recent Flower School Live, which you can find here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWenZGeeo9uafdk One idea is to create a small circle of flowers similar to a floral crown and place it on the pumpkin. You can also insert flowers into it or attach them with UGlu dashes or other adhesive. Hope this information helps. I had watched your show on profitability and I have a question on shipping fee's, how do you break down the cost of shipping with the cut flower stem cost?
@timtammyneely
@timtammyneely 4 жыл бұрын
I have been taking the entire amount of shipping and dividing that by the number of bunches shipped, then taking the result and adding it to the bunch price.
@FlowerSchool
@FlowerSchool 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question, Tammy, and the way you are doing it already is an excellent solution. You assign a shipping cost to each bunch and factor that in to the total cost of the flowers, which is one way to go. Let us know how it works for you, and thanks so much for watching our show!
