Great video. Do you know how long people can be and stay in the flow state? And how long (even percentage-wise) people spend in each stage of the flow cycle? Some athletes are able to get into the flow state at the start of a game while others need to get settled into the game first. Do you know why this is and how the struggle and release stage would fit into this example? Just curious!

Love your questions 😉 Well, unfortunately there’s no definite answer - how long we spend in each stage can vary from challenge to challenge as well as from person to person. But generally, we can try to optimize it in a way that we spend more time in Flow and less in the other phases (e.g., by training the right mindsets and self-regulation skills). Also, I’d say that the struggle and release phase interact: A soccer player who is great at letting go, remaining confident, taking it easy (which is useful to move faster through the release phase) probably won’t need that much information collection in form of a struggle phase anymore (e.g., because they’re already very experienced) and, as a result, need less time to settle before finding Flow. If there are unexpected challenges though (e.g., the opponent is much stronger or has a different tactic than expected), it may take longer to settle and the struggle is higher so that a player will spend more time in the struggle and release phase. Hope this answers your questions 😊
