Great video as always, thoroughly enjoyed watching this one. I have to admit I don't fly the Q400 as much as I should, partly because I have never managed to figure out the FMC properly, your video has shown me just what it can do, which is a lot more than I ever thought possible. I will now have to look at the Q400 in a new light in the future. Only having the pilot edition at the minute but considering the upgrade now.

Well. I thought I'd managed to get to grips with the UNS-1 FMC, but there's a lot more I hadn't known about. Well explained, the FMC is definitely easier to use than the Boeing FMCs that I have access to, or indeed Aerosoft's CDU in the A320. The Q400 has become my favourite aircraft to fly since I got it back in Sept 2016, although my landing skills are still far worse than yours.

Amazing tutorial!! Just one thing though..the warning horn you got in flight and right before touchdown is the beta warning horn. It comes on to warn you of power lever position below the Flight Idle gate and into the Beta range (DISC and MAX REV) while airborne. Operation of the flight levers below the flight idle gate is prohibited while in flight. Other than that..I really like your attention to detail.

Hey great video, just few pointers from the real thing. At 53:43 where you are talking you want it to hold present position it is not used for that. we use it to hold the pos on the fms so we can write it down when we are on ocianic legs and are making lat/long crossing checks. it just holds the pos on screen for few moments. Also when you go into cmd hdg in lnav we can use the hdg bug to change the hdg if atc gives us a new hdg later on
@flightsim4818 жыл бұрын
Huge thanks for that, much appreciated. The doppler nav kit I used many years ago in Jetstreams had a fix button where pressing the button did exactly the same thing, marking the lat/long of a specific position. Glad you enjoyed the video, Rich

Comprehensive review of the marvellous Universal FMC in the Dash 8. A few questions, if I may? Do you know if the "Universal" FMC used in the Milviz 737-200 Combi, is the same FMC as in the Dash 8? Although there are no glass ND's in the old 737-200C, that Universal FMC would make it very interesting? Secondly, how did you get UT2 into P3dv3? Lastly that TCAS warning to "descend" is why I ignore them...it wanted you to descend onto the conflicting traffic..LOL! Thanks
@flightsim4818 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. The Universal FMC in the Dash 8 Q400 is specific to that aircraft, being the UNS-1E I believe. Quite how that differs to the FMC used in the Milviz I'm not sure because they have used the UNS-1LW. However, I should imagine that they are fairly similar in operation the only caveat being that in Milviz's description, they use the phrase "fully functional (given FSX's limitations)". Given that I don't have the Milviz, I can't really advise further, sorry. For UT2 I used the Estonian Migration tool and this advice from Avsim www.avsim.com/topic/483474-installing-ut2-into-p3d-v31-easy-way/#entry3372418 In my opinion, TCAS generally isn't handled well in FSX/P3D.

Hi Rich Just a question after watching this great vid (again and again) I noticed that when going into your first hold the aircraft seemed to turn sharply would you actually go into the hold at 240kts (which I think you where doing) and would this be the cause of such a sharp intersectionCheers Mike
@flightsim4818 жыл бұрын
+Mike Greenaway Hi Mike. I think the sharp turn was a brief anomaly in the sim, however it sorted itself out quite quickly. In line with ICAO (and unless otherwise published) the maximum hold speed up to 20000' is 240 knots and above that up to 34000' is 265 knots. In reality though one would more likely try to fly at a speed which minimises fuel burn, so depending on the aircraft, it would generally be more towards the best endurance speed or the best turbulence penetration speed in rough air. Cheers, Rich

Fantastic video again! Very informative and perfectly done! So, the DME arc programming worked automatically after entering the radial and distance for just the first pilot generated waypoint IGMC1? And which value for the offset of the radial does it use in between two of these waypoints of the arc, 10 degrees? Thanks a lot for clarification in advance!
@flightsim4819 жыл бұрын
+schmeichel75 Thanks for the kind words. To generate the 'DME' arc, you need a series of manually entered sequential waypoints to link in series as a chain. I used the point, bearing, distance method of defining a new waypoint for ICMG1 as 10.2 nm on the 300 degree radial from CAM. What wasn't shown was that I had already programmed ICMG2, 3,4,5 and 6 using the same technique on the 320, 340, 000, 020 and 040 radials and then just entered those waypoints in sequence into the flightplan in that order. There is no 'defined' offset for the radials, that's really down to practicalities but 20 degrees between the waypoints seems to work well for 10 nm range. The resultant legs between the waypoints are about 3.5 nm. Of course, one could use 10 degrees, but the same arc would have needed 12 waypoints, or one could use 40 degrees, at which point one would only need 4 waypoints. Hope that helps and thanks for the support, Rich
@schmeichel759 жыл бұрын
Ok, that answers my question. Thanks for that! I asked myself, how in the world does the FMS know that the waypoints in sequence, after IMGC1, should form a DME arc! ;-) I am looking forward to the next video in that series! Greets from Germany!

Just a quick tip. You know You can set VNAV to level off before designated waypoint? Levelling off 3 miles before waypoint would look like this: ICMG1 -3 @ 2000 at the VNAV page. This sim is amazing. And in my personal opinion it goes far beyond competition in aspects like system implementation, flight model, coding. P.S. Don't forget to rudder trim that baby ;)
