I like how everyone always brings up "Plushies take Manhattan" when it comes to FNAF's many rejected scripts, yet noone talks about the script where apparently a bunch of teens come across an animatronic facility that's being run by the US military.

Y’know I think a way better way to work the “I always come back” line into the movie would’ve been to reference where it actually comes from. That being the Fnaf 3 trailer. To defend it for a second like the line was in reference to William inevitably returning to the pizzeria constantly to cause chaos and harm people, which he does imply to do in the movie where he stuffs the guards and clean up people that die there. So in that context it makes sense but putting the line in that specific spot seems really out of place Like if he held the mask up above his head and said “You know I’ll come back…” “I always do…” And then set up I always come back for him, actually coming back from the dead. But whatever I soyjacked at the scene and the actual visual goes hard af

I really liked the dynamic between Abby and Mike. Most believable performance out of the whole film and it's where the movie had the most heart. The FNAF Movie felt like a glorified goosbumps special at times but at it's core, it's a story about broken families and trying to move on from past trauma. That's what the animatronics always were, the personification of a traumatic event that the the spirits are forced to relive over and over again. They all had families at one point and now all they have is eachother and ironically the family of the man that killed them to look after them. Also I'm glad I'm not the only person who immediately thought of Judge Doom when I saw that part.

The big problem I had with the movie was that it felt like nothing had consequences. The aunt sends a gang to ransack the pizzeria and they don't come back, so why does literally nothing happen? Like, wouldn't she want to at least try and find out what happened? And don't they have families? Why did nothing happen? There were other things that bothered me like how totally gimmicky the whole "draw a picture" thing was, just felt stupid. I am not a fan of FNAF, I just like stories and I like understanding them and tbh it felt very poorly written and (like the mario movie) over reliant on fans' pattern recognition
@alecpheonix0761

The Gang ransacking the Pizzeria did have consequences, like Mike being forced to stop his hunt for his brother, or Mike being forced to take Abby with him to work starting the 3 acts plot, with all 4 members of the gang being adults and them dying on night 3 I highly doubt they’d be considered missin GB after 2 days

There are three things I would Change about the movie if I were in charge: One: During that scene where abby goes missing in the restaurant briefly, instead of Mike instantly finding her being tickled by some robots, there is an extended scene of him searching for her before finding her in parts n' service with freddy or something. It would add some more tense Mike VS animatronic action that I thought the movie lacked a bit, and it would serve to make the animatronics feel more threatening. Two: A little more Afton screentime. I think just a little more buildup to his final showdown would be a little better. Maybe just make it a thirty second long scene of an unidentified man in a dark room putting on the rabbit suit. Three: Doug should have been the one to defeat Afton.

I know this is probably more of a problem with FNAF in general, but I dislike how William Afton, a child murderer, is treated as if he’s some generic super villain, even to the point where “I always come back” has become his signature catchphrase. I blame FNAF SL and FFPS for how he’s received as a character, but even with the mad scientist stuff, those games still try to paint him in a serious light. Here it just doesn’t work for me. Instead of showing Afton as intelligent, but still cowardly towards death (as he was in FNAF 3’s final minigame), he’s shown embracing his death with pride. His death and the utterance of his catchphrase doesn’t really make sense, because Afton wouldn’t have known if he would come back. The movie also gives no good motive for why Afton kills. We aren’t shown that Afton is mentally unstable or anything, just that he’s arrogant. Afton also doesn’t play much of a big role. Even though he’s the whole reason for a majority of events in the movie, he’s never shown but two times. And this isn’t in a way where there’s this big payoff where we see that he’s the one pulling the strings, but more like him just randomly showing up so the plot can continue. In short, I feel as if FNAF has lost the point of the kind of character Afton is meant to be. Intelligent, yet delusional and scared of the consequences that his actions may bring. I think Matthew Lillard was great, but I don’t like how Afton was written here.
@mr.repairman3508
@mr.repairman3508 Жыл бұрын
Gotta disagree with you on some points William would know or at least think he’d come back- he knows the spirits of his victims possess the animatronics-so he suspects he’ll be back if he dies inside the suit. As for the lack of motive, this is something the original games also didn’t provide. We never knew what his motives were in the original games except for the implication that he found joy in killing. I don’t think the lack of motive is a huge flaw but it would’ve added to the film.
@c0r390
@c0r390 Жыл бұрын
@@mr.repairman3508 yeah. I do think motive would be good for fleshing out William as a character. Even if the games didn’t give much of a motive, the movie could’ve improved on it. As for the springlock failure, I still think Afton would not go out so willing to die. While both FNAF 3 and the FNAF movie showed William dying by his own creation, I think FNAF 3’s springlock failure is more satisfying in how it shows William’s death in a way which he is as powerless to the ones he once tormented. While the movie does that in a way, it feels like William won more than he had lost.

SERIOUSLY. This is my biggest problem with people who hate critics, it’s because they have no sense of basic plot writing characterization and narrative along with acting cinematography etc. Like there are very basic standards and lines of reasoning, when it comes to critiquing these things. Critics are always first looking to see if those fundamental things are there before they get invoked in a spectacle. It’s why movies like Captain Marvel or Jumanji 2018 have say a 75% score on rotten tomatoes, both with a very different audience reactions: it’s because critics are looking for basic writing, foundations and fulfillment, even if it’s boring. Mario movie has like 55% rating because it’s plot is pretty stupid but it’s considerably fun, but definitely gives cash grab vibes all the time. The movie adaptation of Les Mis is an already Great story with OK to horrible performances. Last Jedi and frozen are. 91% I believe, because critics can’t based it off of what fans personally wanted out of it, they’re looking for a basic narrative and characterization and that’s when people really lose their minds because they don’t know the difference between heavily disliking the direction and what would make it bad(both have their problems, but nothing fundamentally detrimental). I wouldn’t even be this anal about it if people did not try to make objective cases about why movies are good and bad using the same aspects of media criticism five nights at Freddy’s fans take the cake when it comes to being obnoxious. I didn’t even enjoy this movie as a fan at all The most fan service we got is the animatronics themselves and the fort building scene, along with some other animatronics in other games that are really just thrown the side.

@@absolutecreature7217 Just so you know: 29% on rotten tomatoes only means 29% of the critics gave it a positive review while 71% gave it a negative review. For all you know, it could just be 71% gave the movie a 50% score and the rest gave it 100%. Edit: just checked, most of the low scores are 2/5 or 4/10 scores, literally the bare minimum to be a bad score.

Make the location abandoned, despite it not being the case in the first game 2. Add Vanessa to the movie, even tho she was in security breach 3. Have springtrap die in the main area of the building despite him being killed off and nobody knowing he was dead 4. Make cupcake the powerhouse of the movie despite the cupcake having no significance 5. Not add one sequence where mike is defending himself in the office

for me just felt like they did everything to keep the current rating even though you could see many of the kills in the movie would have been better if we actually could see them as almost all of them are cut out to keep the rating down to what it is what I think annoys me the most is the ending scene of the movie, there is barely any blood from afton getting springlocked where you can tell is also reduced to not get the R rating I'm guessing and the movie confirms to me that the movie could be more scary in the film when someone gets legit cut in half so I feel disappointed more then anything that the movie has the potential to have brutal, gore scares but reels it back for the pg-13 rating that really makes the movie to me, and I'm guessing others disappointed as well the movie is in a decent state on release but had so much more potential the film director more or less stripped away by going for the pg-13 only route.

The Fnaf movie is the ultimate culmination of what the Super Mario Bros movie is. A movie that's made to please fans but not much anyone else, resulting in the fans loving it but critics and general audiences not so much. Now fans are once again trying to gaslight the internet into thinking that alone makes it a good movie and that critics are stupid for disagreeing.

I think this would’ve worked better as a 7-8 episode streaming series, in which the A plot focuses on Mike working at Freddy’s and being attacked by the Animatronics and the B plot could’ve followed him or another character unraveling the restaurant’s history and what happened to the missing children. It could even give William Afton more screen time as his Steve Raglan persona as Mike goes to him to learn a bit more about the restaurant. The Vanessa-William connection also could’ve been changed to just change her to someone who witnessed William murder one of the children as a child herself and was forced to become a follower to him to avoid being killed by him.

You're thoughts are very similar to my own. Mildly excited for the sequel but hoping for much better. Your idea for Afton's line from the novel being adapted wouldve been far superior, and made sense in the moment and line up with how much they were adapting from the book's rnding.

As a fan. I thought this movie was okay. Could’ve been way better though I feel. Also yeah I wanted it to be rated R to see more blood in a scene we never got which would be Afton luring the kids in the back room and going all fruit ninja. That’s just my take tho. 7:57 I also would argue that demolishes any threat or surprise later bc they already were a lil evil as we saw in the beginning. I would’ve been satisfied if though if the kids got more character development and screen time period. Whole time I just didn’t care because they all apart from G. Freddy’s spirit got like 5 seconds of screen time with no dialogue on their past. Afton also got lien THREE SECONDS AND HE WAS SO GOOD WHEN HE WAS ANGRY. But like u said even with the iffy script.

I really prefer the cryptic and dark storytelling of the original series. It allowed you to piece together a story each new game. Eventually all the pieces came into place with FNAF 6, Pizzeria Simulator and the story was perfect. I guess my point is that the Five Nights at Freddy's movie had a lot of missed potential. It could have been more welcoming to newcomers, just telling the story of the games. I guess the movie just ain't a great follow up to the games, at least how I see it.
