I feel like this game is sort of meant to be Metafiction - AKA a game inside of a game. The "True Events" this game is based on could be Treasure Island and Oblitus Casa. Since the events happened in 2003-2004, it's perfectly reasonable for a game based off of it to be made in 2014. Not trying to shut down anything you're saying, just stating what I personally think is going on. Couldn't be based off of Abandoned by Disney, as that isn't a 'true story'. Slimebeast, the author of ABD, said so. Plus, the human characters are clearly OC's made by Acedrain (the in-universe developer) to differentiate between this version and the actual version. Plus, if it was an official game, why is everything so different? Someone with little to no knowledge of the event wouldn't make it exact. With all that said, wonder how Jake feels about this, if he ever saw the game.

My theory is related to Radiance's multiverse, defined as the Tree. Each branch is a new universe, and they can branch off into multiple ones. So, we'll start by saying that Abandoned Enigma is a direct parallel to AnArt's original game in multiple ways. It was released on the same day, you can advance through the demo by using a dev key (I think), it has a playable Pirate Caverns like segment to explore after you get to 3 AM on night 3, but it also includes references to many things across the whole series. And, ofc, acedRain themselves are a parallel to Radiance, down to every member mentioned. It's really more of an anniversary edition than the actual Anniversary Edition... ...yet a lot of stuff is also different. The building's layout is completely different, door mechanics that were never considered in the series, a flashlight mechanic that AnArt wanted to implement but never did, the power shutdown mechanic with the spirits that was only in 2.0, Acephalous has a head on his shoulders, Donald has a body to carry it around, Minnie looks more like the real thing besides the inverted colors, not to mention a lot of camera poses and rare screens.

By referencing everything all over the series, it ends up feeling like "FNaTI but Wrong" (as Fourteen herself put it). And, since it happens in 2014, more than a decade after the events of Treasure Island and Oblitus Casa, you'd assume it was based on false or erroneous rumors about the place, and that's where they got the inspiration to make their game. Honestly, great theory, fits like a tee. Afterwards, the game fell into obscurity, showing the biggest difference between it and AnArt's game: it never gained a legacy that lasted 10 years. (admittedly, I still have to see the dev notes from later nights, so take that into mind) Now, my theory goes into the fact that the blog post mentioned that served as the inspiration for the game only talks specifically about the "evil inverted Mickey costume that tears off its head". No toons, no other characters like Oswald and Goofy, nothing. And that's because, I think you didn't know this, Radiance mentioned that the original creepypastas are indeed canon in the series. These toons/costumes, the weird humanoids all over the series, maybe even MOTHER herself, are all corrupti. So, to me, this means that the devs took inspiration from the original story, much like how AnArt took inspiration from it as well, another parallel. ...and he also had some creative liberties. Remember the comments from the teaser videos? "Probably one of the most unfaithful game adaptations I've ever seen", it's technically an unfaithful adaptation of the blog post's story because it includes all those other characters, which means they were all probably original creations. Things like the game as a whole being set on the completely different location is also another parallel. The original story was set in Mowgli's Palace, in North Carolina, Treasure Island was just briefly mentioned. And that's not even the correct Treasure Island, that one's from the Bahamas, while the one in the games is in Bay Lake, Florida. Other comments include the mention of Disney possibly stalking the devs, a reference to how the writer of the stories was also stalked after getting too involved in the secrets about the Corruptus Effect, there's quite a few connections like that.

All this to say, I think that Abandoned Enigma is actually the thing that led to the creation of the costumes on Discovery Island, since they're corrupti. The game had enough hype to be in the collective minds of a lotta people (the amount of comments implies that), and the negativity associated from the game (both from haters and even from the deb team) may have been enough to create these costumes. That universe is a "prime branch" of sorts, and it ended up corrupting all the following branching offs from that timeline, changing things in each, but keeping the general gist similar. But hey, it's just a theory ofc.

Of course, this also leads to some weird implications, like how four real people (Jake, Greg, Lisa and Henry) always get involved in each universe with this tangled mess. They're all "based" on the humans in Abandoned Enigma, and their fates and roles usually don't change. It's almost like they're corrupti themselves, always doomed to be led to Discovery Island, no matter the timeline. Or maybe it's just a huge coincidence, they're regular people, and the branches just always evolve into universes with the same four members of the SSA, with no real reason other than just "because it has to be this way".
