I think the thinner pads have less sideways flex - thats why they tend to grab more and fight more. the thicker ones have more wiggle room angle wise so will absorb more unevenness before translating it back to the head of the machine - Great vids tho - Im just buying equipment for the first time and your vids are helping TREMENDOUSLY! I have to say apart from all the technicalities, nothing is more important than a 6th sense / idea of what buffing is, why things burn, that dry compound is a bad idea - even worse with too much power/rpm -

Great info., I appreciate it! I watched your vid on the HFT DA polisher and bought one; I'm sure you've sold quite a few. I don't know the common pad sizes, and you didn't get too much into how to select the proper size for the job. So, for someone who's just getting started, what size backing plate and pads should I buy to restore the paint on my 2005 black Toyota (top, hood, lid, doors, bumpers; possibly headlights)? Is one 5.5" medium cut for compounding, and one fine cut for waxing and sealing enough the body enough? What size backing plate to hold a 5.5" pad? What size backing plate to hold a 3" pad, for when I decide to do the headlights? Thanks again; I'll be watching your other vids to try to learn some more.

It's separating from the hook/loop backing. I feel like i'm only using enough pressure to control the polisher. Not enough pressure? Too much product? Build-up? Not cleaning enough. Defective pad? Too slow with section passes? Appreciate your input... maybe other newbs will benefit.

Hello, Scott. I love your videos and am an enthusiastic subscriber. I'm having some trouble with something you may be able to help me with. I've got a Harbor Freight DA and I like it. Thanks for that suggestion. Here's my problem; I'm struggling with excessive heat when either cutting or even just polishing. My backing plates and foam pads are getting so hot, they are being ruined very quickly. My first backing plate was by a company called Astro. It melted so much it was destroyed the first day of use. Not that much use either. Orange, Chemical Guys, Hex-Logic pad I used on it, was also destroyed by heat shortly after I got a second backing plate (Chemical Guys) and used it very little. For some reason it is getting so hot in the center that the pads are also destroyed, completely caved in and sunken in the middle, middle part of hook and loop melted and pretty much gone. This is all with very moderate use. What am I doing wrong? Now my second backing plate is showing signs of melting in the middle too. And I can't even get through one car without destroying the foam pads from all the melting in the center. ?? Now I've got a Lake Country white pad which is also sunken in the middle from melted hook and loop in the back of the pad. ??? Thanks for your videos and I hope you have an answer for this. It is getting discouraging, not to mention, expensive. Thank you.

Auto paint might be a thing of the past, dude. You may want to look into repairing film wraps. There is an ad for them on the page now, throughout the video. It dawned on me that the wrap is a superior way to color a car in many ways. Already, and it will get better. But what will drive the market is the options it gives consumers. BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Land Rover, I bet they start offering wicked designs in the next year or two, then everyone will be. gl peace

@bobbygeneperry25896 жыл бұрын
Ed Perez it depends on how well you take care of them. I have a universal pad washer I use to clean them. I clean mine every panel and put it away and use the next clean one. I have been doing it this way for a few years.. Alll of my pads still look great. I work at a BMW dealership and put out 3 cars a day. I use the scholls blue spider and s3xxl the most for BMW and Mercedes due to their scratch resistant paint system. Depending on what other paint systems I am dealing with on the many used cars we get in. I prefer lake county pards or the 3m double sided perfect pads with the perfect it system. I use that system a few times a week. And have had those 3 foam pads the double sided wool for a year now. Although my double sided white compounding foam is starting to break down. But I can say I have made my money back 100 fold. Everything else I use only lake country ccs pads and foamed wool pads I have some that I bought in 2012 that I still use. But like I said I clean and rotate after each panel.
