I think the thinner pads have less sideways flex - thats why they tend to grab more and fight more. the thicker ones have more wiggle room angle wise so will absorb more unevenness before translating it back to the head of the machine - Great vids tho - Im just buying equipment for the first time and your vids are helping TREMENDOUSLY! I have to say apart from all the technicalities, nothing is more important than a 6th sense / idea of what buffing is, why things burn, that dry compound is a bad idea - even worse with too much power/rpm -

My go to pads are Lake Country CCS or Force pads. CCS pads can saturate quickly and be hard to clean when too much product is used but they work great for me with rotary or long throw da.

Great info., I appreciate it! I watched your vid on the HFT DA polisher and bought one; I'm sure you've sold quite a few. I don't know the common pad sizes, and you didn't get too much into how to select the proper size for the job. So, for someone who's just getting started, what size backing plate and pads should I buy to restore the paint on my 2005 black Toyota (top, hood, lid, doors, bumpers; possibly headlights)? Is one 5.5" medium cut for compounding, and one fine cut for waxing and sealing enough the body enough? What size backing plate to hold a 5.5" pad? What size backing plate to hold a 3" pad, for when I decide to do the headlights? Thanks again; I'll be watching your other vids to try to learn some more.

This are the same style right by that I mean the larger ones are same as the 3 in ones they just don’t have the hole because they are smaller? Also have you tried the Uro-Fiber pads the “salt colored” ones I’ve been looking online and wanted to try it I have the larger force pads they are nice however recently I bought the da 5in set for my 3401 (with the smaller flex plate)from meg and it’s been nice

Thanks so much for all the helpful vids... btw, ur towels are fantastic! Can you tell this newbie why my force pad failed prematurely - within one compounding session. It's separating from the hook/loop backing. I feel like i'm only using enough pressure to control the polisher. Not enough pressure? Too much product? Build-up? Not cleaning enough. Defective pad? Too slow with section passes? Appreciate your input... maybe other newbs will benefit.

Hello, Scott. I love your videos and am an enthusiastic subscriber. I'm having some trouble with something you may be able to help me with. I've got a Harbor Freight DA and I like it. Thanks for that suggestion. Here's my problem; I'm struggling with excessive heat when either cutting or even just polishing. My backing plates and foam pads are getting so hot, they are being ruined very quickly. My first backing plate was by a company called Astro. It melted so much it was destroyed the first day of use. Not that much use either. Orange, Chemical Guys, Hex-Logic pad I used on it, was also destroyed by heat shortly after I got a second backing plate (Chemical Guys) and used it very little. For some reason it is getting so hot in the center that the pads are also destroyed, completely caved in and sunken in the middle, middle part of hook and loop melted and pretty much gone. This is all with very moderate use. What am I doing wrong? Now my second backing plate is showing signs of melting in the middle too. And I can't even get through one car without destroying the foam pads from all the melting in the center. ?? Now I've got a Lake Country white pad which is also sunken in the middle from melted hook and loop in the back of the pad. ??? Thanks for your videos and I hope you have an answer for this. It is getting discouraging, not to mention, expensive. Thank you.

Auto paint might be a thing of the past, dude. You may want to look into repairing film wraps. There is an ad for them on the page now, throughout the video. It dawned on me that the wrap is a superior way to color a car in many ways. Already, and it will get better. But what will drive the market is the options it gives consumers. BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Land Rover, I bet they start offering wicked designs in the next year or two, then everyone will be. gl peace

Ed Perez it depends on how well you take care of them. I have a universal pad washer I use to clean them. I clean mine every panel and put it away and use the next clean one. I have been doing it this way for a few years.. Alll of my pads still look great. I work at a BMW dealership and put out 3 cars a day. I use the scholls blue spider and s3xxl the most for BMW and Mercedes due to their scratch resistant paint system. Depending on what other paint systems I am dealing with on the many used cars we get in. I prefer lake county pards or the 3m double sided perfect pads with the perfect it system. I use that system a few times a week. And have had those 3 foam pads the double sided wool for a year now. Although my double sided white compounding foam is starting to break down. But I can say I have made my money back 100 fold. Everything else I use only lake country ccs pads and foamed wool pads I have some that I bought in 2012 that I still use. But like I said I clean and rotate after each panel.

have you used Griot's 3 in 1 liquid wax ? if so what's your thoughts on it I'm looking for a good all in one or 3 in 1 product for cars with good paint... Please.S I just picked up dupli-color wax and grease remover, power clean and some stoner trim shine

i haven't tried 3 in 1 from griots...i have tried one-step sealant from griots and it works great!..you can find it at autozone i believe..but i think 3 in 1 should be fine from what i have heard about it..hope that helps Chris

hey Scott. I have a service question for you. Do you include claybaring a vehicle when performing a wash and wax service for a customer? or is claybar considered a separate service?

Scott I like you and this what are you doing, but please stop saying to people that 2 step polishing on normal size care takes for you 5 h. In this way people will think that it takes only 5 h. Can you say to everybody that most of the cars what you working with have no mutch demage, and most o the people in the real world with this demage will not spend money for polishing. Please if you refreshing few years old paint whicht you mosty maintain don't say to people that you make 2 step polishing . show us before and after the demage of the paint what you working with.... If you think that 2 step what you are doing with your baby tool dual action power is real 2 step polishing please tell all that people the true....and of course in that 5 h you are prepering the paint and of course you will also protect this paint and detail all plastics

Henryk K wow you seriously need to proofread your comment before posting it. It’s completely impossible to understand what you are trying to say. And if that’s how you actually speak then well have someone else proofread it for you.

Also what do u think of 3D products. From there degreaser, Apc, car wash soap. The HD line vs the AAT line? In my area we only have one detailing supply store and that's all they carry

well I'm a huge fan of hd speed..i also love the upholstery & carpet shampoo and yes it can be used as a apc plus its cheap..just dilute it in a 32oz bottle and use it all around the car including the carpet..i think you will like it....i have never used the AAT line
@durayjames4901
@durayjames4901 7 жыл бұрын
Yea the AAT line is the top grade of 3D products. Like good better and best kind of thing. HD is the better, then AAT is suppose to be the best. The sales guy was saying that it makes the compound/polishing time faster. Idk it seemed too expensive for me lol
