This is a good lesson. Basic things that need to be expounded upon within the brotherhood. One fault on a previous lesson is the subject of the "rock" in Mt 16:18. Peter IS that particular rock of that context. It's non-negotiable. It's very easy to prove. Peters own words is what proves this to be so. And the brotherhood needs to realize this fact in order to debate better. 1 Peter 2:5 = All Christians are "stones" of the church. Eph 2:19-22 Paul paints the picture that ALL CHRISTIANS are continually being built up into the spiritual house of God/church. Therefore Mt 16:18 is simply a generalized statement made to an individual named Peter. A basic syllogism to provide the logical argument---- 1. All Christians are rocks/stones of the church. 2. Peter is a Christian. 3. Therefore, Peter is a rock/stone of the church. If anybody has a disagreement, then dismantle this simple syllogism first, then get back to me about it.

I'm not catholic but I thought I'd have the discussion. 1. All Christians are rocks/stones of the church. 2. Peter is a Christian. 3. Therefore, Peter is a rock/stone of the church. Conclusion: The church is built upon the church, not on the confession that Jesus is the christ, the Son of the living God.

@@LtDeadeye the word "church" literally means in greek "the called out" The church = the people So your conclusion is actually fairly correct. The church is constantly being built upon other church memebers. That's exactly what Paul and Peter explains to us, if you actually read the scriptures. So thank you for showing your arrogance.

@@LtDeadeye Am I mistaken that your comment with the conclusion you gave was sarcastic in nature? If so, then I retract. It appeared your comment was intended to be contrary to my original statement in a typical sarcastic way.

@@Kurt2222 My conclusion was that if scripture means just as you interpret it then my understanding that the church was built on the confession that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, is incorrect.

On the other hand protestantism makes no sense at all, even amongst Churches of Christ they are all split up and stay away from each other in a sense that each little group will not Fellowship other churches of Christ over issues of scripture . So not every Church of Christ is walking step by step and seeing things alike that is true amongst Protestants so whatever you're saying about the Catholic Church it basically goes for everybody. I know Church of Christ that won't Fellowship each other because one might have a kitchen and the other one says they are in sin or if they take communion in the wrong way with multiple cups they are sending according to other churches of Christ I'm sure you get my point.

Yes, major in the minors. Do you realize just how few congregations you are talking about? There are approx. 40K - 50K churches of Christ worldwide, and your example is not more than 1-2K of this number. As far as the RCC goes with its Pope as its religious authority and not the Bible, do you think that they are not divided? If you do, then you really don't know much.

@@larrymcclain8874 all so called churches have divisions that's what the Reformation caused. Churches of Christ started in America in the 1830s with the restoration movement. Divisions in the church happen but at least the Catholic Church has ways of taking care of it, while Protestant churches just split into different sects.

Peter was made the head of the Church when he was named steward (cf. Mt 16:19, Is 22:20-22). It's a perpetual office.
