This is my favorite parody to date. It's so easy to make lens flairs with modern software. But so much fun. I applaud JJ for not doing any lens flairs except for the direct shot of the sun on Tatooine.

This is damn funny, but people need to drop the hate in the comments. He's openly acknowledged his abuse of the effect in the past, and has since learned from it. That's what it's all about, right? Anything in the creative field is a lifetime of learning and application, and this is no different! So let's ditch the "ohhh I hope the new Star Wars won't be like this", because it won't.

His abuse wasn't even unfounded. A lot of his lens flares were physical lights in the scene. Not to mention for Star Trek's purpose, it gave a level of crispness to the science fiction setting that otherwise could only be accomplished with overly shiny things. (I'm looking at you Star Wars Prequel Trilogy). Then there was Super 8. Of course there was lens flares, its fucking Super 8. People see something they aren't use to or find something randomly and start bitching about it. He acknowledged the abuse because the uproar regarding it was so pathetically massive. JJ Abrams isn't a lensflare person. He has a huge portfolio of projects that don't use that much lens flare, if none at all. It takes three movies (two in the same story and one that physically represents the media its simulating) and people think its bent to overkill lensflare.

Abrams is a HUGE Star Wars fan, and didn't care for Star Trek, which means, he purposefully threw in all those lens flares in Star Trek to mess with it. Of course now he's "Learned" from it and won't do it in Star Wars, the one he likes. Abrams for should be brought up on charges for ruining the better of the sci-fi franchises ;)

as someone who worked on JJ's first Star trek film. who was in QC and had to FRAME BY FRAME everything sent in from the studio... I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I HAD TO QUESTION THE FOOTAGE. because they shoot so many fucking lens flares .

Honestly I've always liked JJ's use of lens flares. Never bothered me. Many don't know that he made them NATURALLY in the scene, shooting on FILM, not digital, with lenses and lights, not in post with the Optical Flare plugin.
