what it all comes to is the first gen are the ones made by the master from the victims of the vaults but the second gen were created by the enclave unintentionally while gathering the FEV they enlisted the locals by force to dig up the virus from the destroyed maraposa military base in the first game which ended up turning those humans into the 2nd gen of super mutants. this only works for the west coast super mutants as the east coast is different.

Jacob Dominick maybe, the night kin seem to have better speech abilities, they don’t speak with as much broken English and even seem smart enough to be able have some sort of leadership role even when they aren’t “intelligent” mutants. The examples are Tabatha (black mountain), that one that worshiped Antler, and the one in Jacob’s town. Those examples obviously didn’t keep all of their intelligence, yet they have enough to lead and sometimes even make deals with the player despite usually being hostile. Take Davison, the one that worships Antler, he is able to deduce that he can use the player, a human, to get the ghoul to leave the room so he can get what he wants.

Fun fact In the lore, there are several variations of FEV that focus entirely on the brain, enabling the host to develope psychokinetic powers. Such individuals become known as "Psykers", sometimes developing their abilities even without FEV. It's shown that they possess ESP, Psychokinesis of various types, Telepathy and Precognition depending on the way their powers grow. There's even a mod for Fo4, very lore friendly, that involves the player injecting one such FEV strain and becoming a Psyker. Their more notable powers include self healing, psychic shielding (including invisibility), telepathic attacks, directed teleportation, and the ability to psychically cease all transmissions im the Motor Neurons for a short time, paralyzing the victim. Psyker mod, great fun, check it out

I personally think the theory about super mutant behemoths is pretty silly. Markus from Fallout 2, and Fallout New Vegas, is an incredibly old Super Mutant, possibly over 200 years of age, and possesses no signs of your theorised metamorphosis. Also, you say that the aerosol dispersal of the FEV post-bombing would have been impossible due to the heat, but this ignores the possibility that not all potential dispersal points would have been compromised, and the fact that not all of the United States was affected by radiation by the time the heat of the atomic blast had subsided. I believe your argument about “Ken Dolls” la is evidence beyond Bethesda’s modelling. If I may make a suggestion, I feel you should take Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas as more representative of the lore, rather than Fallout 3 or 4. While these are fun games, the aforementioned contain a greater degree of the original writing team, and thus I feel are more indicative of a consistent history of the Fallout setting. These points aside, I loved the video, and I’m a huge fan of your content.

The Institute version is decidedly a variation of the FEV 87 strain just from the way they keep growing and agression, likely coming from a midpoint between it and the West Cost Strain II FEV. The Strain II has some odd effects that you don't see in the East Coast variants, the techno-organic integration, the plant synthesis, and the psychic abilities that I'd like to see come back after all this time. It's a bit more interesting than just becoming big dumb brutes.

I've always had a head cannon that the ambient radiation and blanket spray of FEV across the entire wasteland were the real reason why your player character's so damn... powerful. I mean, it may even be why the higher-tier perks seem so extreme, like Aqua Boy, Solar Powered, etc. In concentration it transforms creatures and humans into superior abominations, but in inhalation, or smaller doses? Maybe it slowly burns new beneficial DNA - coupled by excessive exercise, strain, and radiation, it speeds along the evolutionary ladder to make you more resilient, smarter, and stronger! There's also other mutants made by FEV and a whole experiment log that details what it does in the first game. If you come back to it, I think it's worth checking out. I'd love to know the viability of a quad-helix structure like the PVP intended.

A great video! Although I would like to mention that it is spoken about in FO1 and FO2 that some of the vats containing the original FEV were damaged and started leaking small traces of FEV into the atmosphere. It was not caused by the nukes, but was simply caused by them not being properly maintained. This leaked FEV then started causing small alterations upon the DNA of everyone outside of the vaults. It is why The Master(the main antagonist from FO1) was hunting down people from Vaults, because they were protected from the FEV in the atmosphere and could become proper first gen super Mutants without the inferior intellect. And we know that the FEV is in the atmosphere and water table of the planet at this point because the Enclave in FO2 and FO3 were going to use an altered form of the FEV to kill everything that had been infected with the FEV and it was going to kill basically everything due to their exposure to the FEV over time.

The FEV is heavily covered in the first Fallout game. The FEV is actually very unstable, especially when there's other DNA mixed in with whatever's infected, such as a vat of the virus, which creates centaurs of varying shapes and sizes. Super mutants, however, upon initial contact with the virus, actually possess incredible intelligence. Whether or not they keep that intelligence will vary with time (as seen with Swan, the behemoth.) Also, Nightkin are a different type of supermutant as well, though that's a different topic.

I wish Wanamingos existed in a non-isometric Fallout game without the use of mods. The weird little Langolier with legs is one of the most bizarre creatures to have ever existed. However, you've still got the Ghouls, Trogs, Spore Carriers, and Tunnelers to check out among others.
