@@timmaw9559 But, will it still be able to do that when it has 200,000 miles on it or will it take a 10,000 dollar trans and engine rebuild. Truth be told? There is a lot to the total truth. Now for those where are rich and can get a new truck every 100,000 miles great, but some of us can't do that. My trucks have to work and earn their keep and some of my employees run the trucks into the ground. If I give them a twin turbo, they are going to have their foot to the floor 90 percent of time and get 10 MPG.

2.7 isn't much of an upgrade from the base 2.3. A 3.0L V6 ecoboost makes much more sense as an upgrade -- and it leaves room for the raptor trim to have a HO 3.0
@ALMX5DP

@@glenm2229 the 2.7 would be a great improvement over the 2.3. 55 horsepower and 90lb/ft is a really healthy jump, and I'd be the area under the curve would show and even greater improvement. That being said, if a Coyote wont fit due to size, neither will a V6 EB unless the manifolds are completely reworked. They are pretty massive engines when including all the plumbing.

I think the 5.0 Coyote ist an outstanding engine, and I'd always prefer a bullet-proof V 8 over a turbocharged V 6, even if it is more powerful! 395 hp are a decent number in this class, even perfectly appropriate for a Raptor! For those who want more: Just tune it up a bit, 450+ hp coyotes no problem at all!

Michael Godsey Yep that’s the key, keeping the RPMs down. As soon as you spool those turbos up, there’s goes your mpg.. Otherwise I’ve seen a few first gen Ecoboosts with over 200,000 trouble free miles, some pushing 300,000 with O2 sensors and tune ups. I have a 3.3l in a reg cab 4x4 long box and it gets 11.3liters/100k. 20 mpg. It has enough power to pull my Lincoln welder. In the 80’s trucks a lot heavier where being pulled around with less. I like the extra room under the hood and the lack of turbos should make it last longer. So far so good!

That's what I've been saying with my 3.5l n/a v6 in my 2016, the power is great compared to the 90's trucks we have at my job and most 90's half tons in general. And I find I never really go above 3000rpm, but I'm also in a regular cab with 6.5" bed so the power to weight ratio is great. I dont think these base v6 options get enough credit for what they do.

Most of the time it’s a transmission issue the trucks come back to the dealership. But the coyote is a great engine the 3.5 is just slightly better. If talking about larger options, I'd go Ford, but if talking about the base engines, I'd definitely go GM 4.3. That engine is phenomenal for it's size and weight. Perfect for lighter duty 1/2 stuff. If Ford kept/ updated the 3.7 or even 3.5 I might change my tune, but I feel it needs more than a 3.3 liter if not aided by pressure.

@ALMX5DP
@ALMX5DP 5 жыл бұрын
Joel Marlo I don’t think it’s a dumb buy, just depends on what kind of deal is out there and what your wants and needs are. The 3.3 is still paired with the older 6-speed auto, which isn’t as updated as the new 10-speeds but may be a better long term unit (though both maybe equal, kinda a crapshoot there). Sometimes you can find deals on the more powerful models too, so like I mentioned depends on what you prioritize.

Alan Bowers I’m just a city driver and occasionally tow light stuff in the bed so I don’t need anything bigger, but they’re selling tons of the 2018 super crew, with the 301a package, so it’s kinda just a basic truck and they all have the 3.3l for around 22-25k in my area and I’ve been really curious if that’s a good deal? My 3.5L EB doesn't have augmented sound, thankfully. I have no issues with start stop, with the exception of stop signs where it can be too quick to shut down the engine. But, take your foot off the brake and the engine comes back to life before you can get to the gas anyway.
@LukasDubeda

The problem with this is: it doesn't save anything, quite contrary. Real-world testing showed this nonsense consumes more oil, goes more heavy on the engine and in the end you won't save any gas and more importantly, due to higher oil consumption, it doesn't save the environment at all. It's a political bullshit, once again, nothing else.
@mikedurham3563
@mikedurham3563 5 жыл бұрын
@@LukasDubeda that's where you're wrong. Motor companies wouldn't make the investment in software and drivetrains if there wasn't a gas mileage or emissions benefit, it makes no economic sense to do so. The savinffs all depend on your drive cycle. A lot of highway driving of course would see near zero benefit, but a standard commute with stop lights will net larger returns. As far as engine damage, that's nonsense from biased/old school 3000 mile oil change people. The engines are modified to retain oil near friction points to prevent wear, which is minimal in a warmed up engine anyway. And there is no physical way for starting your engine to increase oil consumption. The puff of blue smoke from a worn engine is due to the time the oil has had to slip past seals, it is still consuming oil through worn seals during operation, but you just can't see the smoke due to the amount.

Try to hold a constant speed and the engine is missing. You can actually watch the fuel consumption gag jumping. So I go to the dealership. We fixed it they say; ambient air sensor in the rearview mirror. I drive home and it happens again. I make another appointment and the dealership gives me a rental. Another 2019 F 150. I head home and it's doing it too. So I get a call two days later "come get the truck" I go to the dealership and they are embarrassed. They said they couldn't fix it and found the problem with others on their lot. I'm told that Ford is trying to fix the problem but nothing so far.I'm told I'm going to have to live with it. I talked to the service manager who tells me to go behind the dealership and see the Rams sitting there. "They belong to the mechanics" I'm told. So I get in touch with Ford who reveal that it's true. They tell me they will get a fix.They call me in two weeks time and say there is a fix and "we mailed the disk to the dealership". Right. Two weeks later and it still hasn't arrived. I call bull s**t and they help me buy a Ram. They arranged the deal and I traded in the F150. Now drive a Ram. Too bad because I loved the Ford but that dead miss (like there's water in the fuel or a bad plug) was too much to take. Maybe they fixed it, I don't know and I don't care anymore. Cost me 4K to up-grade to the Ram but the truck is flawless so far.

It and the v8 arestill probably going to be more reliable than an eco boost over the long run too. I know that's probably not true anymore but i'll take less complexity in a vehicle I plan to keep 10 or 15 years any day of the week. What probably really sucks about the V6 is that you probably can't get any options like a decent infotainment system with that engine. That is what I truly hate. Its 2019 if I want a V6 or a bench seat let me at least be able to order the upper end options if I want. That's one of the reasons I drive a GMC instead of a Ford now. Not that GMC is any better. I have a 2001 f150 XLT 2wd 4.6 V8 176,000 miles been driving with coil problem for 15 years 17.5 miles per gallon , you get used to it for the reliability. Working on replacing front suspension parts etc.

As much as I like the power numbers of both turbo charged V6's I would most certainly choose the V8. Hands down best motor overall. The best balance and is going to be much more reliable and better sounding. Hope Ford continues to offer V8 options. But I can certainly see the attraction to the turbo charged V6's.

I agree with the sound, but the rest goes to my 2015 3.5. Best truck I've ever had. Never a problem, and it pulls much better than the 5.0. Hauls a camper on a weekly basis (in east TN mountains) and doesn't burn or leak an ounce of oil. Every one I know with am EB loves it.

I drove the 2.7 , 5.0 and 3.5 when I bought mine. There was no way I was leaving with anything but the 3.5 eco. The 5.0 would be my last pick of the 3. 3.5 torque is wonderful.

Good info. I was sooo close to going with the 3.5 EB, but chickened our and went with the 5 litre for reasons of reliability and everyone kept telling me that the twin turbos cost $6,000 each if they ever had to be replaced. I’ve driven several 3.5s. The acceleration is, to say the least, impressive!

I have a 2016 SCREW with the 2.7 and get 25mpg highway consistently doing 60mph. Not a single issue and it tows my 6,500lbs travel trailer with ease. Auto start/stop has never bothered me, the engine starts back up before I get my foot from the brake to the gas peddle. Very happy with the engine and truck!

I think all the engine choices are great, except the diesel. Absolute waste of money for less horses and torque than the 3.5. Anyway, I'm more worried about the ten speed transmission. I hear they are having issues. Anyone have info on those rumors?

You can keep that ecobeast! Givec me naturally asp any day. If you need towing over 7000..maybe 5l v8 or 3.7 eco. The xlt 3.3 with group pkg gets me 7000 lb. How often will that ecoboost be in shop for turbo related issues??! Of course people are emotional and they will chime in saying no problems. You guys didn't talk about those issues... So maybe you should!

Far as I'm concerned the 5.0 is the best compromise of all the engines. 94% of the performance of the 3.5 (it beat the Sierra 6.2 for Christ sake), and 94% of the fuel economy of the 2.7 (mine averages 23.8mpg on the interstate, 25.1 indicated), while being cheaper to buy than the 3.5 and cheaper to maintain since the N/A engine will last longer than a turbo V6.

Thanks for the review of the F150 engine lineup. I'm partial to the 5.0, but like the 3.5 Ecoboost too. I don't know how anyone would pay MSRP on these trucks. My HD 2014 Ram with Cummins was MSRP of 61,400 and I paid 51, 900. Nice discount and cheaper then a F150 I would buy.
