I really appreciate the time he took to demonstrate using the steps. 4 times. If I ever step into one of these, I will absolutely remember that there are 3 steps to getting both in and out. They are called “step 1, step 2, and step 3”. And the lowest number, “1” is the first step, then the second highest number “2” step. And finally, step “3”. It’s likely I would have tried to go 2,1,3. Or 3,1,2 and been stuck in the middle scratching my head wondering what went wrong. Very thorough great job.

I work for navistar. During the time we developed the international chassis based trucks. We had 3 of them completely decked out. $30,000 paint jobs. They were available to employees to use for the weekends and week days. Just jad to sign the sign out sheet. Among the first we built were sold to Jay Leno and someone else I cant remember at the time. We also put together a Harley Davidson themed truck and "gave" it to Willi G. They were suppose to talr it as a gift and let is know if they liked it and give their stamp of approval for production. He took the trick and never got back to us. Also, at that time Navistar was building the chassis and engines for Ford. Just International tricks with ford cabs. All the ford diesel engines that were junk... yep....international engines.

Most pickup trucks today are not for work (unless you don't care that the beds are only about 4'). I used to be able to haul 8' 2X4s in the back of trucks with the tailgate shut. Now they have to hang 4' out the back. Useless. Don't even try to haul sheets of plywood or a couch.

When exiting a truck that big, you step down backward and make sure you have 3 points of contact until you reach the ground so you won't fall and smash your face open.

Yep. This is something companies that use large vehicles like this will drill into your skull if you're going to be a driver for them. You treat that shit like a ladder, not stairs. (Even with less aggressive exit angles like in your typical package truck (which is my arena of experience, I work for UPS), they're gonna make sure you know to have a firm grip on *something,* lest you... well, fall and smash your face open.)
