@Kresimir Cosic' - Yes, that is essentially correct. Ford had no experience with prototype endurance cars, so it made sense to start with the Brits who did. Unfortunately, the cars the Brits were involved with didn't even finish the race, 2 years in a row! Henry Ford tired quickly of that and put Shelby American, Inc. in charge of the GT40. They were successful in developing it into a solid winner.

North Star Ken you clearly have not a clue. You realize two more cylinders and more power equal worse fuel economy, right. Not that it makes a difference. Who the hell buys a car like a Ford GT for fuel economy? Fact is, this car is truly great. @flyingphoenix1137 жыл бұрын
Also, it revs to 11,000 RPMs, making it effectively the highest revving production car engine in history (even including cars like the Ariel Atom V8). As Chris said, the EcoBoost engine is really out of steam (like most turbocharged engines) at the top end. On this particular engine, "the top end" is only 6500 RPMs. As compared to a 458 Italia, which is just beginning to hit its stride around 6500 RPMs, or even a Lamborghini Miura from the 1960s (having a V12 of fairly similar displacement to this V6), which doesn't produce peak power until well after 7000 RPMs. And, in 2017, if you're going to have a gasoline engine (as opposed to an electric motor), it better be a good one (which the ecoboost just isn't).
@prokopius19947 жыл бұрын
nobody's complaining about the merc's engine because its a new car and it has 11k reving f1 engine which is cool. Ford GT is a legend that had a v8 from the beginning.. and now they took it away and put some eco v6 in. That's why ppl are complaining imo.

People obviously don't know anything about modern technology! Now days you don't need a V8, V10... modern technology allows us to use a smaller engine to produce the same amount of power! This V6 is better more reliable, smaller, lighter, faster and more powerful than the old V8! Sure they could have used a V8 but it didn't fit the design they had in mind so let's get over it.
@KB-bh9hp7 жыл бұрын
realtv101 Exactly I believe this engine produces around 184 hp per liter, that is incredible. Considering the p1 without the hybrid system produces what? Like 650-700 hp with a 3.8 liter, correct me if I'm wrong, obviously the total output for the p1 is over 900 hp but I'm talking about the engine only, so the power density isn't far off of that.

Puff the Magic Dragon it's all about the power to weight and engineering not just engine and power
@KB-bh9hp7 жыл бұрын
realtv101 Exactly, we're in a sense, at the limit of usable power. Once you begin to push past that 700-800 hp limit, you begin to sacrifice handling. However, we're just really starting to see intelligent, innovative areo applied to racecar and hypercars, it was uncommon to see incredible areo 10 yrs ago on cars like the ford gt but most cars have some form of clever areo now. Basically weight,areo,chassis balance is the way to go. I mean look and what areo can do, it turned the viper from a ok car into a track monster.

@Loulovesspeed4 жыл бұрын
@Jesse Mitchell - Wow! You have the same attitude towards change that Henry Ford had...…………..and that attitude almost destroyed the great Ford Motor Co and all it had done to put the average man on the road. "You can have any color you want, as long as it's black." Same mentality as you have! "If it aint broke, don't fix it." You obviously aren't aware that Ford made the latest GT to race first, and be available as a street machine second. Blab all the bullshit you want about the TTV6 - it has beaten bigger Corvette and BMW V8s rather easily in many races over the past 4 years. Guess what dude, manufacturers of racing machines couldn't care less about how the car sounds.....they only care if it wins! Bet you didn't know the highest speed ever attained on the old 3.5 mile Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans was a TT V6 (oooooo, that had to hurt your old school ego!) It was clocked at 252 MPH. Where were all the mighty V8, V10 and V12 cars that surely were faster? Simple - they weren't. Finally, I sure as hell am no millennial. In fact, I'll bet the house that I'm older old school than you are! Make no mistake, I grew up in the muscle car era and, like you, love the sound of a well tuned American V8. That said, I'm more open minded to change than you, as change is a given factor in all of life. The original GT40 was a V8 because Ford needed that many cylinders to beat Ferrari's 12. If you can get the job done with fewer cylinders, lighter weight and more compact size, then that's what we call evolution. The '05 and '06 GTs were designed to be a modern street version of the original GT40. The current GT was not, it was designed only to commemorate the original and further explore aerodynamics, handling and power sources of today. Your old school statement that there is no replacement for displacement shows that you are stuck in a point of time and refuse to change. There IS a replacement and it's called turbocharging, and the GT has proven in its many victories that it is capable of leading V8s home around a road course. Ugly as shit? Each to his own, but I'll guarantee you that the more than 7,000 potential buyers of the car would absolutely disagree, along with millions of others! Count the very positive comments in this video - they outnumber your negative one by 20 to 1! The 550 HP blown V8 in the '05 and '06 GT is soundly beaten by the smaller size, lighter weight TTV6 in EVERY performance category, but you don't want to hear that. You go right on and continue to be lost in the past with your stop light to stop light, 0-60, knuckle dragging mentality. I was that way too, in my teens, only because I didn't know any better. Unlike you, though, I grew up and matured by exploring other more complex and interesting types of auto racing. I'll continue my much more rewarding style of inevitable change and all the positives it can bring about! By the way, if a car should keep with its tradition like you say, then the frickin Vette should have stayed with the ORIGINAL 150 hp Blue Flame 6! Hahaha. To quote you, I'm done with this conversation!

@Daniel Zusse - Be sure about it because the GT has thumped the 911 RSR more than a few times in the GTLM Class. The 911 GT3R runs in the next lower class.

The FORD GT is one of my all time favorite cars but i would rather have one of the older V8 models. I can't accept this V6 model no matter how hard i try!..................
@Jstran695 жыл бұрын
I'll bet you could accept it just fine if you could ever get in one, strap in and touch that thing off. You do realize that it completely out powers and out performs the supercharged V8 in the previous GT? There's actually a head to head shootout between the two GT's and this little V6 is just insane, it's pure genius and a real work of art since the car was designed specifically for it. There is no room for a V8 in this chassis design, every single inch is designed purposefully and to perfection. Just imagine the guys with the bigger V8, V10 and V12 supercars when they get smoked by the V6 Ford GT 😱🤔🤷♂️😂🤣
@Loulovesspeed4 жыл бұрын
@john stranahan - Thanks for that very accurate explanation of this amazing machine! That's the problem, though. People see it's a V6 and they read no further, so they are almost completely clueless about the many technological advancements the GT incorporates.

I can't understand why someone would buy a McLaren when they've shown to - be unreliable - depreciate - aesthetically pretty ugly (720s is okay, mp4-12c boring like the name) - they are amazing track performers that's about it.
@ADirtyGrandpa5 жыл бұрын
993mike Mclarens are notorious for breaking down and depreciating in value very quickly (cars like the senna and p1 aside). You’ll lose that 100k in depreciation when you go to sell your 720s anyway. The 720 is quite a track monster though!

It doesn't look as beautiful as the classic GT40 (or the 2005 version). Interior is ugly, engine sounds a bit dull. So it has a good chassis, but so does a 488.
@deanwarnell21257 жыл бұрын
Yeah to me the 2005/2006 Ford GT is the most beautiful sports car ever made. This one just looks like something that came from Italy. It lost it's originality.

I WOULD BE SHOCKED if the 720s wasn't already a nicer(no giant plastic dash), faster, and CHEAPER!!!!! I like the old ford GT I do, but not this one. They ruined it with their attempt to be "upper class"

attempt to be upper class? the goal of this car was to win le mans, and it did.
@nwigchert107 жыл бұрын
Hahah only the 1 time, which it only won because of CLEAR BOP boost(aka ford's 2016 Le Mans sponsorship bonus) oh yea and having 4 entries😂 honestly the car itself might be a great performer but still 450k for a dash that looks largely plastic? It should be ENTIRELY carbon fiber because RACECAR right?

it is, in most videos they say the dash is all carbon fiber and it is an estructural part of the car
