that was when toonami went off the air for what seemed like forever. but on april 1st 2012, adult swim was going to do their marathon of "the room" like they do on april fools day. but then after the intro for the room we were greeted by TOM and for the rest of the night toonami was back on the air. it was an april fools gag at first but it was such a hit with the fans that toonami came back but on adult swim shortly afterwards. and because of this the programming was more adult and not as censored as it was with cartoon network. and since then toonami has been on adult swim every saturday night. and there have been a few different versions of TOM since then as well and a few different locations.

I haven't seen Toonami in years. And one day I see some WSJ article about him being killed and I felt like a family member died. Tom and Toonami are almost solely responsible for nearly 2 generations being exposed to anime and new culture in North america and beyond. Good to see my mans (and Sarah) still holding strong. From all of us who grew up on Toonami, stayed up late with Toonami, and lost our minds at lunch and recess at Toonami. After 7 years i am so happy Toonami is still on air. I remember watching back in 08 with new episodes of Naruto, Prince of Tennis, and Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo Bo BO (weird title lol) After getting through a rough middle school week. I had my wwe Friday night Smackdown on Fridays to kick off my weekend and then my toonami on Saturday nights. Grab some pizza, Pepsi, snacks, be off of my ps2/xbox 360 by 8pm to watch toonami. Good times.

Old Toonami essentially was a series, every so often they would hold major story telling events that also involved viewer interaction through the website. Playing games, voting, etc it was good times back then. It's also why Tom changed his looks over the years, was sometimes fluffed as an upgrade related to the events. Tom mk1 for example got dissolved by a massive alien ooze and that's how we got MK2. There is a ton of lore and stuff for Toonami I feel tons of people forgot occured.

@@davidfitzsimmons2451 It still is, the official name is Total Immersion Events (T.I.E), they air as a series over a couple weeks, I believe this was Tom 5's third, the first he lost the original ship and his arm, transferring to a ground base for a period of time, at some point he discovered Georgia on the ship (may have been a different T.I.E) then it was revealed the base is a ship when a storm threatens it. there was also Cosmo Samurai last year or the year before

It probably wouldn’t feel right since the TOMs created in the Forge were involuntary laborers. On the other hand (which is more likely), it can be for simplicity’s sake or budget/staffing reasons.
