My grandmother would write every day of 12 what was weather like , since it would show the weather in next year.

Not only just some specific days; at the end of every day we should process what we did good and what bad we had done. we should try to tilt the balance sheet toward the good or those omen day whole year record might go bad

I live in Appalachia. (TN ) I discovered a few of years ago about OLD CHRISTMAS. It was the day that folk here in the mountains celebrated Christmas. In my past, this holiday has good memories and bad. But more than anything, I have always enjoyed doing things differently from others.😉 I have seriously considered adapting Jan 6 as Christmas with my family. That being said, this video fits right in with it! I haven't heard of omen days. So VERY glad you brought it to light. Thank you.

It’s interesting how ancient ideas persist in new guises. This makes me think of the halcyon days which start today and run to 7 days after the Solstice. A period of calm that facilitates new growth.

I've never heard of the "12 Omen Days" and it sounds very interesting. I'm going to try. ☺ However, work has recently tossed me unexpected baskets of chaos that will be intermittently delivered to me over the next few months. I look forward to taking a break from it all at some point during those 12 days. 🍃

Catholics use this time to to await the Epiphany of the Three Wise Men visitation. The nativity and lights are left up until January 6th

This is so cool and interesting! I had no idea, but will definitely honor the omen days this year. What’s the story behind it being called the “Celtic Omen Days”? Since the Gaels likely followed the wheel of the year and not the Gregorian or Julian calendar?

I not sure if this is helpful at all but this is related to Wales specifically and something I have learnt about lately I have a book called welsh folklore and folk custom by T Gwynn Jones. In the chapter about seasons he mentions Coel Ddyddiau and refers to them as omen days. He also talks about Brittany and says the days are called gourdeziou (over days) and it is suggested that the welsh term Dyddiau dyddon found in some records has the same meaning. He says that among Hindus, Germans & Kelts traces are found of 12 intercalary days or nights in a year. He says that in Caernarfonshire the 12 days following Christmas day are specified as the omen days or intercalary days. This book is from 1929.

Also I felt called to add that the wheel of the year is a relatively new concept and not an ancient one. I forget who is credited with calling it the wheel of the year but it is something that I was informed of recently that I wasn't aware of previously.

Hi, I read the Caitlin Matthews blog that you refer too but I can't find any primary sources to suggest this happened in Celtic Christianity. Would you mind sharing the sources you used to verify Matthew's writings?
