An island nation with some of the best fishing waters on the planet......and we're only allowed 15% of fish caught. It's an absolute scandal.

Norway has refused to join the EU because they won't give up their fishing grounds

In fairness Norway doesnt have any decent farming land so it chose fishing . Ireland chose fatming as in it was our single biggest industry . If we removed all qoutas those fishermen would overfish the stocks like they did in the 70's . As for this clown doing the video reminds me of the nonsense of the brexit tyoes and look how they were tricked

Largest territorial fishing waters at the disposal of the Irish nation (quite literally sold down the river) at the behest of the will of a foreign entity...🇮🇪

The irish govt., with irish MEPs have betrayed and failed the irish fishing industry. The quotas in EU are negotiated and set by all the member states As always the biggest lobbies and their vested interests weigh heavy in negotiations and they drive best deal for their own interests. Ireland is a full member state of the EU, and thus a decision maker. The irish MEPs and irish govt ministers just do not negotiate for or defend irish interests or resources. They are responsible for this calamity. What are the irish MEPs doing for Ireland? What are we paying them to do?

There is no question that the Irish government has not fought for coastal fishing community’s through its membership of the EU. We are an island nation run on behalf of the land based sectors. We seem to have no concept of what the sea can provide. We under spend on infrastructure constantly. The solution is not to leave the EU however. We just need stronger representation from people who know the sea and its value. It is our own fault for not putting these people forward into public life and working together as the farming lobby do. The EU is not the problem. As a country we have benefitted incredibly from being a member of the EU. Those lost job from fishing have had lots of opportunities to take up new work on land and abroad due to the EU. We now need to fight for the remaining fishing jobs, and more importantly, build infrastructure around our coast with EU money, to take advantage of the new marine opportunities to create sustainable marine employment and help rebuild our coastal communities.

What a load of rubbish. Yes, the fisherman lost of but the rest of us have gained so much because of EU membership. Look at what happened the U.K after leaving, they are going backwards at a rate of knots.
