Many people growing up in the 90's loved the Power Rangers, but few know of their exact origins. Though Super Sentai fans of course remember Bioman and Galaxy Rangers. Without them, The Power Rangers would not exist in the way they do today. Thanks to some creativity and persistence, The Power Rangers were brought to life in the US.

Seems like an oversight here that there's no mention of X-Men the Animated Series. Saban was already producing that for Fox. Also, Fox was a new, young network, intentionally trying to carve out a piece of the Saturday morning cartoon market that ABC, CBS, and NBC controlled. They intentionally gathered up more action oriented, pre-teen focused content (Batman, X-Men, Spider-man, Power Rangers, VR Troopers...)

Close to twenty years? Um my guy, the show has been ongoing since 1993, it’s 2022 now. If we do simple math 2022-1993 we’re approaching thirty years and currently at 29 years. (The edit)- I know you made this in 2021 but it’s still 28 years round up.

As a Tokusatsu fan, it really makes me happy seeing it get mentioned or recognized by people. Seeing Kamen Rider and Super Sentai from my favorite creators is a dream. The history, business, and development of both toys and television alike are fascinating. Changing companies, trend in toys, as well as the approach to the show now.

I never knew to much about it, but I knew there was a Japanese story this was based off of. They changed it, of course. The biggest change mentioned was the Japanese Tommy actually died after losing his powers, and missed battles because he was to weak. In MMPR, they made Tommy forgetful and sometimes having a tendency to run late. After he lost his green ranger powers, he went to his uncle's cabin for awhile until Zordon called him back to recieve his white ranger powers.

One correction: Sun Vulcan was from 1981. Still, I’m glad you mentioned Marvel’s influence as it was important to the history of Power Rangers. Regardless it’s awesome seeing this being talked about in a relatively mainstream context. Also awesome seeing various footage from different Sentai seasons, including Goranger, JAKQ, Denjiman, Sun Vulcan, Bioman, and Zyutanger! Great job! I think Mighty Morphin Power Rangers caught on partially because of the dinosaur craze in the 90s, with Jurassic Park and the Dinosaur sitcom. An easy hook for kids. Also helped was Ron Wasserman (who composed the X-Men theme) working on the music, giving that edge and energy that 90s kids loved.

As far as I’m aware, it’s actually the 4th or 5th, since there was a parody dub of the Sentai series Dynaman between Saban’s Bioman and Galaxy Rangers pitches. The reason I think there was a 5th series involved was because Saban’s original Galaxy Rangers pitch used footage from Jetman (the season immediately predating the one used for MMPR), but then tweaked it when toy dealers saw added marketing potential in the fantasy elements of Zyuranger (though the groundbreaking addition of a 6th ranger probably didn’t hurt) as opposed to the more serious, almost militaristic stylings seen in Jetman.

While I may hate Haim Saban’s business practices, his obnoxious insistence of safe surface level plots (especially in modern PR stories) & his obvious “quantity over quality” mentality when producing a show like the original PR series, once he got the show green lit, I gotta admit he was persistent & eventually successful in creating one of the most nostalgic and recognizable children’s franchises on the planet. To me that deserves SOME respect. Now if only that persistence could be used again to make a well written and meaningful PR action cartoon. I understand there’s Toei of Japan and other possible complications preventing that currently, but one day I’m certain it WILL happen.

@@Ryan-pg1tw Listen dude, I’ve said my piece about the man and I DID say that I respected him a little bit at least for getting his idea off the ground in the first place, that’s hard for ANY creator of any medium. I’m not wishing death upon Haim or saying he should burn in hell because that’s not what Power Rangers taught me or other people. Despite its ups and downs with abrupt cast changes or lackluster plots, this campy franchise will always have a special place in my heart. And for the record I’m not trying to be rude here, but if you want to celebrate a man who doesn’t pay his top actors properly, does very little to push his creation forward and at the end of the day only cares about it’s sales numbers, that’s all yours to respect, you do you. I on the other hand DO care about the well-being of people who portray my favorite characters (physical acting, voiceover etc.) when they are mistreated, even if said mistreatment happened 20 or so years ago. And I also want franchises that I love to evolve so they’ll be able to tell more satisfying stories with three dimensional characters that can resonate with, inspire and entertain everyone. Weather that happens in the next live action show or (hopefully someday) an animated series or movie I don’t know, but I’ll keep my hopes up. Power Rangers is Power Rangers, it’ll be successful to some generation no matter what. So please stop telling me and other comments (and yes I see you replying to other people in this same video with that same statement you keep spouting) to share what YOU think people should say and let people express their own opinions, even if some are not positive. Have a nice day Ryan because I’m done having this conversation and will NOT reply to you anymore in this video. ✌️👋

While I understand Super Sentai being better than Power Rangers, especially since they have less restrictions to work with compared to Power Rangers and cause of that, prodcued some rather crazy and at times inappropiate episodes that I can't help but love (imo, I prefer kakuranger over zyuranger but that's just me). Regardless, I have to thank power rangers for making me get into Super sentai as a kid. I feel like i'm one of the few who likes both super sentai and power rangers, and respects their differences. I think my issue with power rangers now, is that they toned down a bit when compared to some of their older works during the saban and disney era, which is why multiparter episodes are rarely produced or how they have to avoid stuff like conflicts between members just because it's not a good message for the kids. Thankfully, the comics have more freedom than the TV adaptations.

When power rangers premiered, my parents said that they had seen this before. They had watched the Dynaman Parody on Night Flight.

I used to love power ranger so much, the newer ones that I’ve seen r kinda weird to me, like 2012 and under r good in my mind. This problem being biased though

I feel like Dino Charge and Dino Fury are pretty good and Beast Morphers was okay. although I do agree that besides that the rest are trash

Funny history about Power Rangers and Animation you can add to this list. Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman) was released in the late 70s that has similar vibes to the early Super Sentai seasons. Voltron (GoLion) was released during the early 80s and it was around that time Super Sentai was experimenting with Giant Robot battles. Samurai Pizza Cats (Ninja Cats) was like Super Sentai but with Furries and that was dubbed by Saban just a few years before they started Power Rangers.

Good video. You know Saban was going to use Jetman for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers but eventually decided to use Zyuranger instead. Possibly because children have a big love for dinosaurs.

fun fact a later sentai series Dynaman did have Six episodes of the series were shown in the United States on the USA Network's Night Flight and alternately Nickelodeon's Special Delivery throughout 1988 as a dubbed parody, simply titled Dynaman
