This was really a lost TV episode pilot we ran across in our film archives. A Tale of Wells Fargo western TV series episode pilot starring Dale Robertson, Paul Fix, Helen Westcott, Stuart Randall and Ray Teal was originally released in 1956 as part of an almost completely long forgotten anthology episode series. From a story by Zane Grey with the teleplay by Frank Gruber. If you purchase the complete series of Tales of Wells Fargo on DVD this pilot episode is not included. This is episode 30 of The Forsaken Westerns, an original TV series produced by Westerns On The Web Productions in cooperation with The Westerns Channel. This episode was originally released on February 13 of 2018 on The Westerns Channel. The Forsaken Westerns is a series dedicated to finding and broadcasting western tv show episodes that appear to have been lost forever. Dale Robertson had been a pretty big box office draw for the movies in the 1950s. Discovered by a talent scout when his photo was placed in the window of a photography studio to help draw in business. Dale had the photo taken to send to his mother while he was in the military. Dale was born July 14 of 1923 in Harrah Oklahoma and served with a tank crew during WWII. Robertson started in movies in 1948 but his big break in westerns came in 1949 co-starring in Fighting Man of the Plains with Randolph Scott. Dale played the part of Jesse James. His favorite movie roll was as Vance Colby in The Gambler from Natchez in 1954. This pilot episode launched the series Tales of Wells Fargo which would air on television from 1957 through 1962 and would contain 201 episodes. Tales of Wells Fargo made Dale a TV super star. There were many endorsement items for the Tales of Wells Fargo TV show all the way from toys and comics to real automobiles. Dale was a magnificent horseman and if you see him in a production riding a horse that horse more than likely belongs to him. This episode is just a very good solid western tv show episode. This is a very enjoyable TV western episode from the most magnificent age of TV Westerns. The Forsaken Westerns series contains episodes of TV shows that were never broadcast or have not been broadcast in as many as 65 years. Almost lost forever, these rare television film treasures are now being released and uploaded for viewing from Bob Terry's personal archive's of thousands of western films in his collection. Watch full length western movies and TV shows full episodes on the Westerns On The Web YT channel and make sure to subscribe to be notified when new videos are uploaded. The Forsaken Westerns is hosted by Bob Terry.

Tales of Wells Fargo with Jim Hardie is the very best of the western TV shows. Robertson was a surreal skilled westerner detective.

Nobody wears a hat or sits a horse as Dale Robertson did. His horse Jubilee was as elegant and sure footed as he was. What a pleasure to watch!

My mother named me Roger after Roger Moore when he was on Maverick Dale for Dale Robertson a fellow Oklahoman and Temple of course is my actual last name and my mom a fan of TV and films where I got my fondness for classic television and movies and I was born and raised in Southern Oklahoma and that's where I still live, thanks.

I've seen Tales of Wells Fargo on TV for years, but I never really watched until a few months ago. Now it's a favorite. Same with Laramie. I was missing out for years watching only Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Not that those aren't great, but there are other classic westerns.

The video you posted "A Tale Of Wells Fargo" (pilot), has just made my day. I still remember when there were men like Jim Hardy on TV. I really appreciate watching episodes like this. The reason being the talentless automatons being aired today. I only discovered these episodes today (2/1/2023). R.I.P., Bob Terry.

Real horseman trained horse's in Oklahoma, could actually fight lost his college aid because he had some professional boxing matches, joined the army became a tank commander fought the Afrika core in north Africa under Pattern wounded twice could have came home but refused to leave his unit one battle a direct hit on the turret blew him out but killed the crew, could fist fight, handle gun's for real, and trained horse's professionally, not the usual soft Hollywood type actor had is ranch in Oklahoma where he lived. And tale's of wells Fargo is on cable tv everyday.

We need shows like this today. Sadly current generations are incapable of making them.
@sst6555

Each generation improves film making; you may be stuck in the era you grew up in. I grew up with these shows, but enjoy the technical advances. Also, dislike the old shows portrayal of Indians, and fake gunslinger stereotypes, everyone is a crack shot, guns never misfire, everyone wears a gunslinger holster, women are portrayed as weak sex, and wear makeup; and tight clothes, nothing like the old west. Note in this episode, Dale Robertson is just riding along, and somehow stumbles on the stolen money boxes out on the trail, about a one in 100 million shot.

If I wasn't so old, I might even remember seeing the first episode when it aired. Always a favorite of mine. We sure could use some old west justice today. Where is Judge Roy Bean when you need him.

I performed IT audits for Wells Fargo in the 70's ans 80's along with other large banks. WFB has been ripping off U.S. customers for years, and I do not think any of the robberies through the years could offset their tactics.

Just something about the black and white westerns, don't get me wrong love them all, Take Gunsmoke for an instance ,I guess half of them are in color, but it's just something about the black and white ones, seems more realistic?
