Thanks for sharing. I have had ferrets for many years and they play with me the same way this Fisher is playing with the fox. "You can't catch me!" says the Fisher. The fox is faster in the open, but the fisher stays in the trees or under the brush where its faster. Amazing.

I agree. I have had wild fox friends, and have seen fishers moving at extreme, speeds. They seem to know of each, other. My Fox, deer friends, and a feral cat were all in my yard in Winter at night, together. It was a beautiful sight. Outdoor Christmas lights, on the Spruce . This a pretty peaceful Fall day, these two are appreciating before , Winter ❄️

Hahah watch the video again. Both Fisher and Fox was very wary of each other.. what do you guys think will happen if a hungry fox comes across a limping Fisher??! In this video it was a healthy fox sizing up a healthy Fisher. Testing him. I've seen coyotes do this to dogs out in the country. They will size up the dogs, if they are big and stand their ground the coyotes will back down. If it's a poodle,sick,weak dog then it's coyotes dinner. Not saying that's what they are doing but if the fox notice a weakness or injury on the Fisher while all the chasing the instincts might kick in to kill the injury Fisher. In this case the fisher was healthy fast,agile and strong..

Yeah but the fisher is female so the fox can beat her up. A male fisher will go right into the den and kill all the fox pups. Only coyotes and big raccoons can chase male fishers off.

I think this is the first time this fox would encounter a fisher cat. It's just wearing the fox down and later it will pounce on the fox, clever trick.

Amazing footage. Thank for it. Here because of hearing a strange noise near backside creek tonight. I've heard the crazy sounds of racoons but this was one I hadn't heard in a while. A single screech every few seconds for a minute or so. Another clip of one and I believe it was a fisher.

That fox is lucky. Fishers will kill and eat them around here, I assume that applies everywhere. A fisher cat is no joke, they are hard-core predators that can take down animals much bigger than they are. Like most weasels can.

Every predator take down animals bigger then themselves bobcats take on freaking deer ,cougars take down elk ,lions hunt buffalo and the fisher mostly eats small birds and small mammals they don't really hunt anything bigger then themselves I don't know where that myth came from especially since allot of animals relative to their size actually eat the fishers lynx,eagle even red fox

They are as fast and a force to be reckoned with. I watched a squirrel flying from tree to tree, to escape one. It luckily got away jumping to trees, the Fisher could not.

@@chingitclarkson6723 Probably pine martens, not fishers. They look alike, but pine martens are able to jump from tree to tree and sometimes catch squirrels mid-air.

The fox eat them too so do coyotes ,eagles,lynx,bobcat and many many more animals ,bears can run up trees like this too which is much more impressive because they are actually heavy animals and it requires a lot more strength

Their point was that the fisher can run up and DOWN trees like running on the ground, even face-down like squirrels. Bears are super quick going up a tree, for sure, but have to be more careful coming down, due to the weight you mentioned. @@Shyne282

Yes, they are part of the same family called Mustelidae. It includes weasels, badgers, wolverines, otters, stoats, fishers, martens, etc.

My guess is the fisher found the fox's den and young or was too close to the den and the fox wanted to scare it away The fisher doesn't seem too scared and isn't leaving Bad news for the foxes Also my guess is they're both males based on size of fisher and aggression of fox

Have you ever seen how aggressive a female animal can get when protecting their young? Even female barn/house cats can get really nasty and aggressive when protecting their litter from other cats and dogs.

That must have been so fascinating, seeing those two as they were. You are lucky, also that they even sensed you yet knew they were safe around you. The fox was trying to figure out a way to catch the fisher without a serious loss to itself, but it couldn't. The fisher was in a way amused by this but knew it couldn't let its guard down which is why it was also running and climbing about.

i’m not comfy with those suggestions this is “play”. just because no blood was spilled doesn’t mean they were playing. wild animals that are predators are obliged to interact with other creatures to figure out the COST vs BENEFIT of an attempt to convert the other creature into food energy. it seems neither of these creatures ultimately wanted to risk it. since they’re fairly evenly matched (altho the fisher would have an edge) that was probably the best decision for both of them.

I think it was more of a play thing than a hunt thing. A fisher is too big and dangerous for a fox to prey upon. There are easier meals to be had.

A fisher is a small carnivore in Northern United States. They were brought into Pennsylvania to reduce the porcupine population. They are a member of the weasel family.

They are both small predators but also can be prey to bigger predators so they have to avoid being eaten by being wary, cautious and smart all while at the same time they have to kill to survive. In this case they realize that they were different predators so they size each other up and were testing each other limits, agility, strength, skills, etc. They both were afraid to go in for the kill because they are equally matched so it’s not worth it to injure themselves because they won’t have the energy to find other kill later.

It’s like a version of the boy who cried wolf. Now it’s the story of the fisher who cried fox, where the fisher fools his friends by lying that a fox is attacking him. When the fox actually attacks the fisher, none of the other fishers come to rescue him and he gets killed and eaten by the fox at the end of the story.

No fishers kill prey like foxes by finding them asleep in their den and delivering a bite to the base of the skull or spine What you are seeing here is a fix defending it's nearby den from fisher predation

If that was a Gray Fox, not a Red, it could've climbed those trees. Gray fox have paws similar to a cat and can and do climb vertically up trees. Red Fox can't.

I think maybe they're both juveniles perhaps seems more like playing. There's another video with a fisher killing a grey fox. Definitely not playing a guy saves the foxes life. This fox might try this to.the wrong fisher next time which coukd be a huge mistake for the little fox. Great video probably have better odds of winning powerball lottery then witnessing this.
