Loved it Joe. Freddy is going to be so cool to watch being played. Super job! Oh & PS Joe MOSFET'S are a type of transistor so you were correct in calling them transistors. MOSFET means: Metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect Transistor or MOSFET, some folks just shorten it to "FET"! They are preferred in some cases because they cost less, use less energy and depending on how they are constructed can handle higher currents, and are usually less electronically noise. They helped revolutionize the electronics industry by being able to make computers smaller, like cell phones etc. You are correct the .6 is the voltage drop. Most transistors drop about .4 to .8 volts across their PN junctions. If you have more or less the transistor is suspect. Comparing them is a good TS practice if the circuits are identical. ECG was purchased by NTE their specs can be looked up on line. As long as the voltage, current and frequency range is equal to or greater you can substitute the transistor in most cases. Heck they had to pic ONE out of hundreds that probably would have worked just fine. Thanks again for the great show Joe. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya

No problem, yes once you start understanding kind of how they work it gets a lot easier to figure out the problems....

Hay quick question. Real pinball vs video game pinball? Just curious. And and kind of wandering. I guess.

What do you mean? Which I prefer? I prefer the real pinball machines if that's what you mean.

If its .5 when it should be open, then its either reversed or the wrong one. (Npn vs pnp transistor or n-channel vs p-channel mosfet. It could blow up depending on how they use it:)
@LyonsArcade4 жыл бұрын
It depends on if it's in circuit or not, sometimes they'll read a voltage drop because you're reading other stuff in the circuit, but it helps you see if they're shorted or not...

You're troubleshooting techniques are pretty close to what is used by technicians. Testing in circuit is inaccurate, but when you have a stack of identical circuits then it's a quick way to find a fault. The measurement on the meter for diodes is the Forward Voltage, which is the voltage needed to make the diode conduct, also the voltage dropped across the diode :). By the way, MOSFET's are transistors. Metal Oxide Silicon Field Effect Transistor, but often the term transistor is used referring to bi-polar junction transistors (BJT). FET's don't require current on the gate to switch them, so they are good for logic circuits where a microcontroller or microprocessor is controlling the transistor directly. They just use voltage on the gate, and as such run cooler and can handle more power than BJT's. Sorry. Getting caught up there. Baiscally, calling them transistors is still correct as they are a type of transistor. MOSFET's can be sensitive to static electricity, so you do need to treat them with a little care. :) Loving watching you do your repairs. It's great to see someone who genuinely wants to save the machines for what they are doing work. :)
