Another great tutorial and thank you for mentioning John Foust. John was a great guy. I have a walnut fly box he made and I use it to store "master" flies to duplicate when I tie. In the box I have a Freddie and pink worm tied by John. He liked to drop the worm under a Freddie. Comparing your video to the fly tied by John I can say your's is an accurate representation with one exception... he tied a small piece of black foam at the hook bend before tying on the body. This creates a black spot underneath the back of the body. Thanks again for the video. I'll be tying plenty of these in preparation for my trip to MT!

Could you use peacock hurl instead of the dubbing on this fly like your earlier hopper pattern? I really like how the hurl works to hold the foam. Great pattern.

I have one of these tied my John Foust himself! It’s in my fly box but I never used it because I’m scared to lose it lol. Now with this great video I can tie some up myself! Thanks Tim!

Hello Tim, thank you for teaching me so much. Your videos inspired me to tie for years now. I compare it to coloring as a child. The stress relief matched with euphoria of catching a trout on a fly I tied is therapeutic. My only request is a video on Czech nymph technique or nymph technique in general with sight leader as a Czechoslovakian American i would greatly appreciate the connection of heritage and hobby.

Tim, Michael's craft stores have large sheets of the dark and light brown foam for a buck each. Using them for hoppers and eventually this beast.

Thanks for the tape trick. I was too slow to think of that on my own. It worked! Splitting the foam worked well too. I’m beginning to think you might be on to something.

Love your stuff. If you haven't already done so, can you talk about applying dubbing. I find using it very hard.

I've heard complaints about those body cutters dulling fairly quickly, and they are a pricey tool to only get a limited number of uses out of. What's your experience with the cutters? I bought one for tying some divers and I have noticed it's gotten harder to get clean cuts.

Hey Tim - long time watcher first time poster. I am just getting started tying and I find your videos an invaluable resource! Thanks for making them and keep up the great work! A few questions: -I wasn't able to find the cutters at my local shop - any tips for making uniform cutouts with scissors? -What box store did you find your foam at? -what legs in particular are you using - looked for something similar at my local shop and got close, but I like the ones you're using better! -Is the furry foam thinner than felt? Have you tried just using craft store felt? Thanks so much for the help so far!

Suggestion for cutting the foam: I would try cutting out a stencil, and then using an exact knife.

1.) You can buy the cutters online easily. 2.) The foam is easily found at Michael's if there's one in your area. 3.) He uses wapsi medium barred round rubber legs barred brown and gold. 4.) Furry foam is generally pretty easy to find online at j stockard

This may be a little late haha, but the legs are wapsi - barred round rubber legs (brown/gold). They’re my go to hopper legs, hopefully this helps if you’ve been searching for 7 months lol
