Wouldnt it have been a better idea to leave the engines off the wings instead of mounting them for better access to the firewalls so that hoses and all of the other stuff could be attached to the firewalls. Now the engines are in the way which will make it moree difficult to access the firewalls.

Blancoliro had a clip from an earlier flight with this plane, where they used up all the runway, had the stallwarning horn triggered when they did the climb. The pilot was careless to say the least. He could have killed his passengers. It is the pilots responsibility, and he did not follow the manual. Probably havent even read it.

I go with those here who want to learn from this and to come up with solutions and not quitting when there is a trouble especially when there isn't any official news about the cause of the tragic crash, and regardless if 401 will ever fly or not. Maybe I miss something but none of the videos of this channel shows that this team was/is that which deserves to be judged as evil and sure Sam wouldn't like to be remembered as an argument. In one of episodes Jason talked about if they missed something or there is a better way to do it then be open and tell them. I agree with those who think the community note idea would be useful in the KZbin comments to solve/check and inform each other easier about safety issues, because it's difficult and frustrating to do it in popular videos. If you guys really want to argue and fight for basic safety and you really understand it then get youtube to be involved to help you guys to be organised because right now it's hate.

Jason, The knowledge gained from doing this build is irreplaceable. Economically this project never made sense, but somehow you and your sponsors got past that part. What a great project to get back in the air. The big twin Cessnas are a joy to fly. Once you have flown one, you never go back. I’m a Cessna 340 rescue owner. I’m under water in the job and probably should have scrapped it. It is one of the best flying light twins I have ever flown. I’m an older guy and this is probably my last plane. Not sorry I did it and you shouldn’t be either. 23,000 hours flown all over the world. I would not trade a minute of it for all the money in the world! Go Jason!!!

I knew from day one of the very first video you truly had no idea what you were getting into as an AP myself. But, I could tell your heart was in the right place and that convinced me to stick around. Your conviction is infectious and proves that in life when things get tough and people doubt you it means you need to double down, push through, and see it to the finish. That is what success is built on. While some of your earlier conceptions and mistakes were concerning you demonstrated that you are capable of learning which is something many in the starlight seem unable to do which is get over themselves. I'm glad I donated. You make the world a slightly better place in these dark times. You are representative of the spirit that built this country. I hope others follow your example.

42 yrs in aviation and I would not have taken on this project, due to my experiences with frame off resto's of street trucks. Always something "else" biting ya in the a**. With a plane its even worse due to the FAA regs, inspections, and certs, unlike a street vehicle, if it runs and moves, its good to go. Vehicle engine overhaul is about 25% of what ya pay for one of yours. A set of Tires and Battery MAYBE cost $1200. Now the wiring and avionics, my specialty back when, is a minor nightmare, most of my trucks have a MAX of 85 general purpose circuits at the bulkhead connector. NOW the real work, I resto'd/fixed a 79 Dodge D-250 Pickup and project was 14 to 15 months, so I feel for ya. BUT the way your attacking this project is a complete resto and FAA won't object when its all done. GREAT JOB Jason.

I watch many restoration channels where people repair miner's lamps and models of double decker buses but you are doing this with a damn aeroplane! It is just insane and such compelling viewing. I just KNOW you are going to get the 401 flying again - there isn't the slightest doubt in my mind. As for those who have sought to throw a spanner in the works by alerting the authorities to your efforts - they have surely done you a HUGE favour in the long run. If you think, you have an entire filmed catalogue of just exactly how meticulous, careful and safety conscious you have been at EVERY step of the journey. If you had $10 for every time I have heard you say "This piece is probably fine but it has a slight scratch so we are going to replace it" you wouldn't need any more funding. Keep on keeping on guys - you are doing a fantastically good thing and you are doing it fantastically well. All good wishes from the UK.

Hello Jason!!! In my case. I'm not even an aviation fan. But, when I saw that video with a title saying, Free airplane if I can make the engines run, it got my attention. Is it going to be expensive? Yes Is it crazy to get on a project that big? Yes Can you buy a 401 that it is flying for less money that what you will end up spending? Yes. But, can you buy the satisfaction of accomplishment on flying an airplane on missions to help the people in need that was finance by the people? NO That is priceless. When the plane gets done, everytime it hits the air, it will be an icon of what people can do when they are united, reunite resources and becomes one towards a common goal.

I would say that the 401 is probably the most followed project on KZbin. So happy to watch progress every Saturday. It's really mind boggling to see how much goes in to making an abandoned plane not just airworthy, but better than new. Thanks for all the RR Crew does for the pilot community and veterans. God Bless your weekend!

It has been amazing watching the progress every week on the 401 and the other planes you have saved along the way. The 401 needs to be back up in the skies, so many people will be soaring along with her in spirit. It is a very good thing that you and your team are doing.

I live in Argentina, I feel like I can't help but want to see that plane fly, especially after all your efforts. When it flies it will be incredible, an airplane that will practically be brand new, totally modern, and brand new down to the smallest detail. The only thing I can do is encourage them and say that they will achieve it, I know it.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and partner in this series, Sam. In our family, we have lost loved ones to aviation --recently, its fresh and raw still. Aviators are a different breed, they absolutely love flying and no doubt Sam was the same as my brother in law. That doesn't help the pain of the loss for those they didn't get a chance to say goodbye to, but it *is* important during the grief to remember they were doing exactly what they loved. If you read this mate, please extend the collective love to Sams family and friends, from all of us fans on youtube. Godspeed to Sam and may he rest in piece, on the wings of angels he will forever be flying.

That guy has insight into what happened from a pilots standpoint and what he knows of aircraft. But not so subtly he ripped rebuild rescue to shreds and accused them of being cowboys who are skirting the rules and are just an influencer channel with no thought of real world risk. One idiot said he was careful with his words. That isn’t true at all

I have been following you since the start of the 401 project, and been amazed by the dedication to this, and also the mission you have for bringing old abandoned airplanes back to life. It is partially responsible for me starting down my long dead dream of learning to fly and getting my pilots license (that and my wife telling me I need to find a new hobby). It’s been a challenge and I’m still waiting for that”Money that will miraculously appear “ 😂. This and other channels like this is what has been helping to keep going. Thanks for doing what you do.

I forgot about this channel and this project. It's been over a year, according to my watch history, since I have watched anything related to this project. Suddenly, YT has this video on my recommendation page. I'm still a subscriber, but this project has dragged on and on, and I got bored with the lack of real progress mixed with the commercialism of the channel. And now, when I do hear about it, thanks to the sappy YT algorithm, it is of course a video asking for more help with the project. It's great that you have found a cult following, that will apparently pump untold amounts of dollars and views into your project. You have found companies looking to help out how they can, for a simple shout out or advert. You have figured out the algorithm to reality and the common people: have a sappy feel good story, beg for help, show 'progress' while you grow. This project has dragged on long enough. It was fun early on, but just got too... boring, long winded, sappy. Others are correct, you can go buy a new aircraft for what you have into that skeleton already. Cars, boats, motorcycles, airplanes can (and should) be destroyed and recycled. This is no exception. I'm not sorry for unsubbing. Good luck.

I am always happy to watch your videos Jason. I live in Thailand and you and your team bring a little bit of much needed Americana back into my life. This crazy yet so adventurous project continues to inspire so many of us. I started watching your channel way back when you had just started with the 401 and it's been a joy to watch how your subscribers have grown since then. Maybe it's your attention to detail or how you are able to share your journey with us that comes across as honest, sincere and with a spirit of persistence and hard work or maybe it's your dedication to truly making a positive difference in other people's lives, but whatever it is it seems to me that what your offering us is a whole lot more than just restoring a bird destroyed airplane, but a window into the human spirit and what it's capable of when people come together under a common goal to achieve the impossible. I can hardly wait to see your face when the 401 finally makes it off the ground. Keep the faith friend! Let's Fly!!!

@mipmipmipmipmip go away troll. Are you saying just because you didn’t see it in the video, it didn’t happen? That things didn’t get checked out and signed off by a certified authority because they didn’t show it? I’m sure Jason doesn’t want to put up a 4 hour video just so trolls like you can count all the rivets and hear all the torque wrench clicks yourself! They’re documenting everything on this rebuild and there will be a paper trail to back it up. And fyi, the rebuilt Cougar was also well documented and was worked on by a team of licensed mechanics.

I realize Jason didn't have an A&P certification himself, but he was working under supervisory certification. And it looks like a two fold primary problem caused this tragidy. Jason and team missed a rubber seal on the right wing gas-cap and Sam didn't check the fuel for water. I can only imagine the pain Jason feels on behalf of the pilot and the friends anmd family who lost him. I know Jason will feel the guilt forever unless he can find forgiveness in his heart, I believe he did his best and it just fell short. Accidents are accidents, not on-purpose-a-dents. So I hope he uses this tragidy to go out and get his A&P certificate and that this error doesn't ruin his passion to keep going. Maticulous proceedures are set up to avopid tragidy, and he missed something - but so did the more experienced and fully certified pilot who crashed it. Breath Jason, and move forward. A VERY expensive lesson - learned, right?

$12000 cables! I feel like aviation is definitely going to die for most of us. The pure absurdity of the last 3 years has murdered my RV-8 build and helped solidify even experimental aviation as a sport for the rich, let alone GA. I have 3 partners in the plane I have had since 2009 just to keep that dream alive but my biggest aviation dream is over thanks to the despicable costs of aviation. I am really happy that you area able to continue this project despite the costs. Keep up the good steady work!

You have the drive to get it to work. The Lady will fly again and all the other great projects that you guys are doing will succeed because of the love and effort you put into each project. I was thinking, why not make missions to ex. Europe and other places to talk about your missions it up, when the Lady is ready for take-off. Just a thought.
