There are a couple of genres I've not found someone I liked within, but it's also likely because I haven't listened enough. But yeah, I have specific things I like but they're not genre-specific. Frankly, I think it's true of most people, there are baroques/classiques pieces that are universally loved for example, when someone doesn't like a whole genre, either they have a psychological block because of a few bad experience, or they don't like something integral to the whole genre, and even in that last case it's rare they wouldn't be at least a few exceptions. I think most people if they gave it a serious try, would love almost every type of music, just not every artist (far from it of course).

Well, for me, I only really listen to music while I drive/shower, and I can't really relate to rock or especially rap, and I don't like pop. Grew up with my dad listening to country, and as a writer those songs resonate with me. So, country it is. Or video game music when I'm writing essays because I'm a nerd like that and need the motivation. :P

Country and Rap are the two most controversial genres. I’ve lived on the west coast where almost everyone said “I like all genres except maybe country,” on the East coast, rural, it was the opposite, everyone liked all genres except for rap.

"I listen to everything" in my experience generally means "I've got preferences, but also, I've just never had much controll over what music is being played so I've learnt to at least listen to most of it without conplaint" For example, I have preferences towards videogame music, j-pop, j-rock, bubblegum pop and synth pop. But I will listen to and maybe enjoy (but not always) just about anything ranging from club music, hip hop, heavy metal, goth, country, punk, and just about anything else someone could stick on a speaker I have no controll over.

I hate the "what kind of music do you like" question because it feels like every answer is wrong. I don't have a specific genre I'm into. I can't say I listen to _every_ type of music, but I do listen to a lot of different kinds and I genuinely have no idea how to sum it all up in a few words. Whatever I say, it's always the wrong answer and get judged for it. Please stop asking me.

Just sidestep and answer a slightly different question by saying "lately I've been listening to x, y, and z". You won't have to frantically look back through everything you've ever listened to and narrow it all down to the very best stuff. Plus, the answer already implies that the scope of your music taste is broader without coming across as bragging. It also doesn't immediately reveal exactly how much of a fan of x, y, or z you are.
