Ken Ham and his team have a bi-weekly "news" show, reacting to the news stories of the day from a Christian young-earth creation perspective from the Answers in Genesis staff at his Creation Museum.
Hemant Mehta (the Friendly Atheist) and I join Ken Ham, Dr. Georgia Purdom, and Bodie Hodge as they discuss expansion plans for the Creation Museum, the finances of the Ark Encounter and more in this episode of Answers News hosted in front of a live audience at the Creation Museum.

A challenge for Ken Ham: Fill up your Ark Encounter with real live animals, all the food and water you can store then throw away all modern devices, medication etc and see how long you and 7 others will last!

They also need remove all the metal supports and bolts and nuts they used to build the new ark. If supposed Noah didnt have it to use, then Ken hams crew should not have used it. But I'm sure he would argue that building codes required it or some crap. What a waste of money. Think of all the real people that money could have houses, fed and educated. So sad.

@ Paulogia... it's the same old playbook that Ken Ham follows... he absolutely needs a boogeyman to strike fear into his followers... whether they be scientists, humanists, non christians, the wrong kind of christians, homosexuals or the most hated and easiest to disparage boogeyman of them all... the atheist... he needs to paint black on his canvass to make his white look that much whiter. I've listened to all kinds of preachers of propaganda... and the main tool that they pull out of their bag of tricks is FEAR because it's a proven winner. Forget TRUTH... fear works every time.

Isn't that just the Omn *im* potent god of Ham's again? That cannot do anything right or good or morally unassailable? Why would the word of god even be "crackable" ??? That Ham kind of admits that there are gaps that you can exploit and widen with a "barrage" of atheist claims, pretty much debunks his shpiel of the all powerful omniscient god that wants well for humanity...

Around 18:47 I disagree a little here. If a person is not active in the scientific community, writing articles in respected journals to be peer reviewed, doing research, running experiments or models of some sort, doing scientific things then they are not a "scientist." Science is much more than having a few letters behind your name and just going through a program by wrote. A person is not a scientist if they are just using their degree to sell books. The only thing a Ph.D earns you is the right to call yourself a "doctor of." By the same token, you don't have to have a Ph.D to be called a "scientist" in my book. You just have to be competent in the area in which you are doing research. Being a scientist and having a doctorate are two separate things. It's certainly easier if you have one, but it's not a prerequisite.

Freelance opportunist "awesome rides..." I was thinking brothel with dining/bar/night club... a stage and dance floor, and a separate sports bar so local folks can go watch their favorite teams sink. The "recreationist" staff could even have scantyish dinosaur furry costumes and the advertisement tag line could be "Ride a Dinosaur." The county could finally see some revenue out of it and nobody would be complaining about getting screwed.

The first working video of it that I found was on pornhub (which has a 2-minute and an 8.5-minute clip of the same thing). All I can advise is that you should never google for _cake farts._

Diviance If one defines a Christian as 'someone who does, or at least tries to do, what the Christ of the Gospels told them to do' then the number of Christians in the world is roughly zero. When have you ever met a 'Christian' who has sold all their worldly goods and given the money to the poor, for example?
@Diviance
@Diviance 7 жыл бұрын
Nope, not one. Jesus did have it kind of easy, though... I mean, he was basically a nomad, he didn't really have worldly goods outside of his clothes.
@Grim_Beard
@Grim_Beard 7 жыл бұрын
Diviance Most likely not even that, as he'd have to have existed and there is no evidence that he did. Richard Carrier explains the (lack of) evidence very well in a number of lectures and discussions available on KZbin. Some are more heavily 'academic' than others, but it's worth looking into if you haven't seen them already.
@Diviance
@Diviance 7 жыл бұрын
Oh, I was just operating under the assumption that at least some of the bible was accurate. I am actually of the same mind as Richard Carrier, I don't believe that the biblical Jesus existed. Was it possibly based on a real person or persons? Sure... but, like Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, I don't believe it is a real account of real events.

Nocturnalux Oh, I'm quite aware. These "religious freedom" laws are cropping up in many arenas. It just means the religious are free to discriminate against the LGBTQ community and many others. I think it got much worse after marriage equality became a law in all 50 states. It's their way of trying to counter us in a culture war of their own making so that they can rule the country again.

Lying is a prerequisite for Creationists. You can't honestly defend the idea mainly because it is wrong. But it is supported by the Bible, so the choice comes down to, is reality wrong or is the Bible wrong. Well, if the Bible is wrong then it can't be the word of God. If the Bible isn't the word of God then Christianity is wrong. Therefore reality must be wrong.

Well, first off, you cannot sell something "back" to someone who did not own it in the first place. Second, he won $18 million in tax breaks (and the right to discriminate on religious grounds), what he was trying to avoid was a $0.50 tax on each ticket sold. In fact, the tax breaks he got, were specific for a 'for-profit' business, so selling it to a non-profit actually breaks that agreement, and should be grounds to make him pay them back. Like everything else he, and most of these con artists do, it was just a big scam.

I know this is old, but I want to add some context for those who stumble across this and/or rewatch it like I am right now. Kens trying to brag about his numbers. He recently claimed to have his top weekend ever. I live a mere 30-40 minutes from that stupid ass eyesore he calls a museum and “Ark”. Two weeks ago, the annual Kentucky Wool Festival was held less than an hour from the ark. It’s essentially a massive craft fair with multiple huge vendor tents, a special tent for wool vendors, pens full of slightly annoyed farm animals that are just waiting for you turn your back so they can steal your funnel cake, carnival food, and some bluegrass bands at night. It runs Friday through Sunday. This years attendance was over 43,000 people, more than doubling Kens best weekend ever. You read that correctly. A craft fair and petting zoo with music provided by small local bluegrass bands managed to more than double the attendance of his best weekend ever. (I personally happen to love the Wool Festival and had a blast this year.) Oh yeah, and the flea market only 30 minutes from me and about 1 hr from the park easily equals Ham’s attendance numbers during average summer weekends.

The projections for economic benefits assumed that people would show up in cars and stay locally. Most of the visitors to the Ark Encounter arrive by bus. Most of the buses do very limited business in Williamsburg. They feed the passengers breakfast in another city, let them eat lunch at the AE, then drive on to another community for dinner and hotel accommodation.

Merry Christmas Paulogia! You know down here in the states there is a war on Christmas and I may get arrested for saying that. At least that's what a lot of fundamentalists would have us believe. This persecution complex is also a feature of Ken Ham's complaints about his critics. Like his little castle exhibit where the secular world is out to destroy the foundation of his beliefs. I guess that part is true in a way because his beliefs are toxic and the world would be a darker place if we lived according to an ancient holy book. His beliefs should be attacked and I thank you for doing such good job doing that. Thanks also for having Hemant on. He's awesome and one of the first atheists I subscribed to also.

I love the adoption of the silly fundies of the word "fallacy." They just make them up - "oh, you say I committed logical fallacies?! Well YOU committed X fallacies!" Ok... what are they? *crickets* Their favorite of course is the straw man. I've never met a theist who actually understands what a straw man argument is. If they say something, and I respond with "that's stupid," they stop there and declare it a strong man, ignoring the fact that I go on to explain exactly why it is stupid. And that by itself isn't a straw man! They just never seem to understand.

Or, even understands what a fallacy is. They seem to think that disagreement with their TRUTH is a fallacy... or that a "fallacy" is just plain wrong.

Ah yes. They hear the word fallacy and automatically assume we are telling them they are wrong. Can’t seem to grasp the nuance that no, you may be correct, it the logic you are using to arrive at your answer is flawed.

Indeed. Awhile ago, my SO was talking about the goofy things that people use to discuss a flat earth, or show that it's not (approximately) a sphere. He gave me a description of the shape of the earth which would make it a pyramid. I told him that is clearly wrong: I can demonstrate that with the fact that razor blades become dull. While, it's true: Razor blades get dull. The earth is not pyramid-shaped. However, the notion of disproving pseudo-scientific nonsense with other pseudo-scientific nonsense is certainly flawed.

I think this strategy isn't plain stupid. It's a way to muddy the waters. If you use the word fallacy often enough - at best in front of people already on your side, you keep this people at your side, as they tend to believe you anyway. And now knowing the other person uses fallacies to attack their precious believes... Creationist apologetics isn't about convincing people to join their club - it's keeping people from getting out. I fear, this works and therefore it's used...

3:25 why is one of the people on “gods” castle also aiming and firing at their own foundation? Is this supposed to show that secularists know how to think critically and that believers allow other people to do the thinking for them? I.e. “mans words” aka critical thinking in a given area, vs. “gods word” aka I believe in a book that I’ve never read, I don’t know who the authors are, and I have no idea when it was originally written. But my pastor talks about it on sunday with such authority and they have a beautiful family and I want to be just like them so I’m gonna let them think for me and then I’ll end up like them!

I have such a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that bible literalists and flat earthers and young earth creationists actually believe what they profess. Maybe I'm cynical... I like to think that I'm just being skeptical, but when i hear this stuff about the earth being 6500 years old and the idea of a "firmament"I just think "there is NO WAY that actual functional human beings believe this." There had to be some outside motivation. Such as money.

My opinion is that most of that true belief is fear based. These people are almost always raised being told from the second they can understand, that they have to accept the claims fully, without question, and if they don't they will be subjected to some unimaginable torture. I'd contend you could make a person a truly believe anything using this method, no matter how absurd what you tried to teach them was. And you'd get people just like Hambone and Georgia here - people who are literally too scared to actually question their beliefs as they truly think that doing so would be risking eternal torture.

Cluckery Duckery I think Hamm and Hovind (elder and younger), and whatshisname..........the tv "star" Kirk Cameron, hell, most of the preachers, and pundits that tout young earth creationism are scammers, looking to cash in on the gullible nature of the stupidest of the religious, the creationists. I'm an Agnostic Atheist (big suprise there, huh?) but I'm not really an ANTI-theist, if people want to believe silly stuff, that's on them, just so long as they can't force it on me, yeah? However, I have an active dislike for the young earth creatards, and most especially for the "sheppards" of that particular flock! This garbage goes so far beyond "silly", all the way into "criminally stupid", imo! There's no way that anybody with even half of a brain can buy into that crap, and as much as I dislike Hamm et al, I don't think they're actually stupid, they're constantly looking for ways to make more money from their idiot flock - THEY HAVE TO KNOW THE TRUTH, and they're just taking every dime they can get out of their "sheep".

Gaming Dude It's possible, I suppose, Hovind the younger doesn't seem as smart as his dad, so I guess he could be a true believer - Hovind the elder is certainly enough of a sociopath to use his kid as a prop for his scam, and to keep his con running while he's in jail.

Your channel, Paul, is one of the best formats one can find on KZbin on the whole topic of creationism, religion and atheism I know of. I really love how you react to Ken Ham reacting to things :D and of course your educational explanatory videos too (will you make more of them in the future? Would really be glad :D) I really like your calm and collected style. There are others with a more offensive style, Matt Dillahunty, Aron Ra Richard or Dawkins for example - and while their way surelys work on some folks (in the meaning of helping them out of their belief-trap, or keeping them from falling in) - I think your approach has its own merrits and is really interesting to watch. So thanks for your work can't wate to see your next vid. Later :D

ain't it so, that in the TV and Movie world, whenever it's a bad guy, chasing the hero, or the other way around, the bad guy is always on _the right side_ of the screen? A quick factual correction. Ohio State University and Ohio University are different institutions. "University of Ohio" does not exist.
