@Triandel
@Triandel 6 жыл бұрын
Where to start.. you got Thursday and Tuesdays right.. Wednesday I really hope you are just bad at spelling, and misspelled ODIN, Friday is not Freya's day but Frigg's day, two entirely separate gods... Also as a speaker of the modern version of old Norse the language the Edda prose was written in originally, Icelandic, i can sadly inform you, we use none of these any more, and have not for a long time, only one we still have is the suns day. Also, a much smarter thing to do, would have been to point out that Saturday is Saturn day, the Greek god of generation, dissolution, plenty, wealth, agriculture, periodic renewal and liberation, and in later telling is known as the god of time Chronos, much deeper reference to time creation, than the Norse mythology one.

Woden is an old English form of Odin and is the form used for Wednesday. wōdnesdæg. He was not wrong. Most of the days of the week are based off of the old Germanic words that were based on Norse Gods and Goddesses.

Gylfi Kristmundsson Wodan (or Woden) is the Germanic spelling of Odin. And Saturday is Surter's day, not Saturns day. I thought it was Freya or Frey on Friday, not Frigg, but I haven't really put the effort into finding any reliable references, I'll look around, see what I can find.

Shannon is right about Bodie looking for Ken's approval. He's something of a lying asshole, but I feel kinda bad for the guy. Remember, Bodie is a son in law working in his father in law's business. There are no blood ties there. Bodie lives his life surrounded 24/7 by the Hamily. If he messes up or makes Ken (or his wife) sufficiently angry, Ken says one word and he's out. There goes his job. There goes his book sales (I'll bet Ken owns the rights and gives him a cut), there goes his entire life. What ELSE is he going to do at this point? I also think he's angling Ken to be the one to take over when Ken goes off to the big Creation Museum in the sky. Nah, Bodie's life kinda sucks.

If I had a choice between God's word (assuming he was real) and Man's word, I would choose God's word every time. Now, point out God's word to me please, because all the Bible has is the CLAIM that it is God's word. A claim and a fact are two different things. I live in Salem Oregon. I can claim I'm the Governor, but if I walked into Kate's office I'll likely be arrested. No matter how much I claim to be the REAL Governor.

Eric Taylor The Bible doesn't even claim to be Jehovah's word. There's a passage somewhere that refers to scripture being 'god-breathed', which most correctly translates as 'inspired' but some goddists interpret as 'god's word'.

Star Trek, Bread and Circuses: SPOCK: I wish we could have examined that belief of his more closely. It seems illogical for a sun worshiper to develop a philosophy of total brotherhood. Sun worship is usually a primitive superstition religion. UHURA: I'm afraid you have it all wrong, Mister Spock, all of you. I've been monitoring some of their old-style radio waves, the empire spokesman trying to ridicule their religion. But he couldn't. Don't you understand? It's not the sun up in the sky. It's the Son of God. KIRK: Caesar and Christ. They had them both. And the word is spreading only now. MCCOY: A philosophy of total love and total brotherhood. SPOCK: It will replace their imperial Rome, but it will happen in their twentieth century. KIRK: Wouldn't it be something to watch, to be a part of? To see it happen all over again? Mister Chekov, take us out of orbit. Ahead warp factor one. What about the Mithraists, Mr. Spock? What about the Mithraists?

So, to the creationists, "sin" is more magical than their god, finding ways to break what their god did... That makes their omnipotent and omniscient and omnipresent fantasy either incompetent or sadistic. Either way, that god sucks.

Ken loves to brag his bible is god's word. No it isn't. It is early man's word. It is a first cut at science. How You Know the Creator of the Universe Did Not Write the Bible The only reason Christians believe the creator of the universe wrote the bible is their peers said it was so. Those peers in turn had no reason to think that other than their peers told them. It is a belief based on sand. What matters far more than does god exist is did he write the bible. If he existed but did not write the bible, Christians are all chumps, taken in by a forgery. Christians bet the farm that the creator of the universe wrote the bible. If that is not so, then Christianity is blithering nonsense. It is rather distressing for Christians, but you can easily show the creator of the universe could not possibly have been the author of the bible. If they wish to remain Christians, their only strategy is to refuse to look. Yahweh allegedly created the universe. He should, therefore, know every detail of how it works, but in every matter of science, the authors of the bible got it wrong. They think the earth is flat, resting on pillars. They believe the earth is at the centre of the universe, is surrounded by a metal bowl with holes for the stars, that in turn is surrounded by a celestial ocean. They think π is 3. They think disease is caused by demonic possession. They think dove blood will cure leprosy. They think showing goats a striped board will cause them to have striped offspring. They think the earth was created before the sun and the stars. This is not the creator of the universe talking. This is ignorant desert dwellers reciting the primitive science of the age. All it takes is the bible to be wrong about one thing to disprove inerrancy. Because God is incapable of error, if you find so much as one error, that proves God could not be the author of the bible. Since the bible is the source of all information about God, there is no longer any reliable information about god. Scholars have reported thousands of errors and inconsistencies. There are entire books called apologetics of lawyerly excuses for the errors. The creator of the universe should be capable of writing clearly without ambiguity. In Mark 7:1-15 Jesus commanded people not to wash their hands. This was either a filthy trick or evidence Jesus was an ordinary man with no more knowledge than the people of his time. Archaeology has turned up no sign of Moses, Solomon or David. If the bible were correct, there should have been tonnes of remains. We have discovered the Moses babe in a reed basket story is a rip-off of the Sargon myth. Moses allegedly wandered in the desert for 40 years, yet that desert takes only 3 days to cross by horseback. Surely Yahweh would not try to pass off fictitious characters and silly stories as real. I would expect the bible to be perfect, completely consistent, no errors of any kind. But it isn’t. It was clearly written by many different editors and slapped together without an editor. There are thousands of errors and inconsistencies, blatant enough for a child to notice. I would expect Yahweh to craft prose considerably better than Shakespear. But is not. It is disorganised, redundant, even doddering. Read the bible cover to cover if you doubt. If you read the bible cover to cover, most of it depicts Yahweh in a very bad light: petty, erratic, sadistic, unjust, partisan. What sort of being writes an autobiography and makes them out to be the villain? It is like Joan Crawford authoring Mommy Dearest. To create the universe, Yahweh would have had to know all of modern physics and more, advanced mathematics, atoms, black holes, DNA, elements, evolution, exoplanets, expansion of the universe, galaxies, gamma rays, germ theory, gravity, ions, metallurgy, Newton’s laws of motion, plate tectonics, quantum mechanics, quarks, radioactivity, relativity, spectroscopy, speed of light, stars, String theory, thermonuclear reactions, X-rays… There is absolutely no hint the authors of the bible knew any of this stuff that the creator of the universe must have known. A deity may well have created the universe, but it wasn’t Yahweh. The majority of species of animals - dinosaurs, trilobites, pterodactyls, Megalodons… went extinct long before the first human. Ancient desert dwellers knew nothing of them, but surely Yahweh did. He should have mentioned such a big piece of earth’s history in the bible, but he didn’t. It appears the authors of the bible had never heard of them. We have no original copies of the bible, not even copies in the original language. All we have are copies of copies of copies. All the copies wildly differ. Bits are left out, added and changed. Surely if Yahweh were in charge, he could have arranged for perfection in the copy process as the alleged perfection in the composition process. There is no reason to think Yahweh had anything to do with writing the bible. There is not even a reported miracle where Yahweh gave his blessing to some version of the bible. All we have is a tradition that authors claimed inspiration. Egotistical twits make such claims for their meandering drivel every day. The Internet is crawling with them. That does not make it true. Christians assure us Yahweh created the universe (though they cannot explain how the author of Genesis knew that). However, Yahweh is apparently incapable of writing a book and sufficient copies without the help of a large team of addled humans, who were not formally recruited, who made thousands of errors. If Yahweh were real, he would write his own book and do it right. All kinds of books were left out of the bible at the Council of Nicea. From what I have read, that process was pure politics, nothing whatsoever to do with Yahweh. If the bible were intended as a universal message for all sentient beings throughout the universe, why is it so focused on desert shepherds and Israelites? It badly needs an update. The bible is a con, perpetrated by ordinary humans. It had absolutely nothing to do with any god. Why did they do it? To con people out of money. To gain control of people’s minds (e.g. so they will die on command in battle). For prestige, to bamboozle people into giving them respect. To terrify children into sexual acts and convince their parents not to intervene. If the bible were written by con artists creating a forgery, what would you expect it look like? If the bible were written by the creator of the universe, what would you expect it to look like? Read your bible presuming the creator of the universe was the author then presume con artists pretending to be god as the authors. See which is more plausible? Which fits the facts? Humans make mistakes. Gods by definition do not. Humans are ignorant. Gods are not. Humans are inconsistent. Gods are consistent.

So like, there was one person there in the middle of the day who didn't stick around ling, but 4 people showed up just before closing and didn't stick around long either? LOL! By the way, at 6:37 is sounds a bit like Shannon Q is saying "So he's creating an 'ass versus them' scenario.", which pretty well sums it up actually. :)

You're going to love this. when Ken (or Bodie, don't remember which) said sin alters our genes, I thought about this woman who was printing out a genealogy in my workplace. She explained she was doing this to find out what crimes the ancestors committed because each bad act alters one's genes. She claimed that the altered genes get passed on to descendants. To change them back, you have to consciously avoid repeating those sins, and voila--better genes for the kids.

I love you, Shannon, but economically viable desalinization is very much "new science". Until maybe ten or twenty years ago, only stupidly rich countries could throw money at desalinization plants due to how badly they had to be subsidized. Nowadays, we have much better technology, far mire cost effective. As our grand overlord would sat, "it's yuge".
@Nixeu42
@Nixeu42 6 жыл бұрын
That's still not exactly cutting edge. Relatively new, but still not really 'new'. It's also refinement on pre-existing, older science, probably operating on known principles. The new stuff would probably be the materials, or the process that has made them cheap enough for such wide-spread use, not the process itself.

It's not ticket prices, Paul, it's concessions. Movie theatres get next to nothing from ticket sales. To offset that theatres charge exorbitant prices for candy, popcorn, hotdogs, etc which is where customer loyalty comes in. A loyal customer who likes a theatre is far more likely to buy concessions than a new customer. They also use all kinds of other tricks such as up-selling, combos, etc. To try to get everyone to buy as many concessions as possible because they bring in so little from the ticket sales. I think, and I am basing this on memory from a decade of working as an Usher/Protectionist who never dealt directly with the business side, ticket price increases have more to do with rental fees. The reason the box office revenue increases is because movie companies charge more to theatres for the license to show a movie, which in turn causes the movie theatre to increase ticket prices to cover it. But I could be off on this, like I said, I never directly dealt with the business side. I was just the son of the manager. Lol

I'm sure you would NOT be okay with Bruce Lee hitting you with a stick, if he was TRYING to hit you with a stick. He does that and you'd never be the same. That is assuming you survive at all. He was a very good person, but if you gave him a reason to hit you with a stick, you'd be lucky to live.

Paulogia even more then that not caring about the environment never made sense to me as a Christian. God gives us the world and dominion over it so that means we can take a dump on all his work, wreck the place and expect Dad to fix it for us? Either a lot of Christians had very different fathers then I did or they aren’t thinking it through.

I prefer the worse case scenario. God, being a total fuckwit, makes Adam name all 90 billion animals. That would only take about 6,000 years. I can imagine, Adam getting pissed off at some point & start snarking god. GOD: What's this? Adam: Aardvark. GOD: WHAT?!!! Adam: *Aardvark* . Big g: OK, this? A: shih tzu. Big G: Gesundheit. A:: No, that's it's name. Big G: Sighs. I think you've had enough for today.

AIG does seem to be abandoning any pretensions of being a "grass roots" movement of biblical orthodoxy. Now, it distributes pre-packaged curriculum through a televangelist business model. When I was growing up in church, their influence seemed to come from one guy who subscribed to "Answers" magazine and probably also provided their videos for young people. Today there are AIG-themed Vacation Bible Schools. (With a fun Flood theme!)

The analogy with the film/movie goer industry is pretty good. Certainly rings true with me. I remember maybe 10 to 15 years ago I would often to go to movies. Maybe once or twice a month on average. I even remember how much it cost (at silvercity) I was 9.95$ after tax except on Tuesdays. Now I go to the movie theatres maybe 2 or 3 times a year for the reslly big movies. Regular tickets are I think 14$ but then they often hace 3d, avx and the one with the seats that move that cost 25$. It's absolutely insane. Dont even get me started on food. Corn and sugard water (pop and popcorn) is like 10$. It's all fluff. Even if you take into considerstion inflation this is ridiculous pricing. This is precisely why i only go a couple times a year. It's a rip off.

Additionally, I'd like to add (there is so much I'd love to add to this). But this part about Doubling, tripling or quadrupling on many days. Doubling does sound impressive and quadrupling is amazing. Yet, it depends on what is being doubled. 10 being quadrupled is only 40. For an empty museum that might be amazing, but for a normal full of stuff museum that wouldn't be noted.

Paulogia and Shannon Q: Hi! The business model y'all were discussing in this video....nevermind, lol, Paul just made the point I was going to make =) Meh, I'll make it again anyway: It makes sense because they've realized there's nobody else to sell their BS to: those that believe as they do have already bought their crap/don't need to, anyone with even a little bit of education hearing their crap for the 1st time is just gonna think they're insane... Which pretty much leaves the young & vulnerable and the people that are already used to denying science/reality to maintain their faith.

Hell even the “Day of the Lord” mentioned in the Old Testament is an apocalyptic event distinguished by God’s wrath on the wicked and the oppressors. To hold these various authors to a strict definition of a day as merely a twenty-four hour period would do them a disservice.

There's a lot here to love. The wonderful Shannon Q, the vertical video, the "did I do a good job, daddy? Did I? Did I?", the "Thats all I can think about, the things I dont want to think about". That last one hit me to the core. I want to be a good little christian, get into heaven and have god's love and all that. But there is that one thing that niggles in your mind, and you cant *not* think about it. When you ask questions and look deeper, you find no satisfying answers, you find explanations which bring up a fractal of more questions, and none of those have good answers either. Thats why I love science so much, as you look deeper, you are met with either more robust explanations, or unknown explanations which can be studied. There is no false sense of knowing.

That Chinese bank queue or whatever may look ridiculous, but I think it might be a matter of practicality. I was blown away at how many people pushed and shoved their way in front of me in my short time in China and wouldn't be surprised if it was a grudging concession that queues are a pretty objectively useful thing, fighting against a cultural norm. Or I could have been super, extra unlucky.

Us and Them. The act of seperating ppl into groups makes for 'others' . A small step from 'enemies'. To be united against and certainly not listened to. . . . We know where that goes. BTW, Christianity is absolutly derived from Sun Worshiping beliefs and symbols. At its very core, right down to the solstice B-Day with 3 days underground. And most every other one of its tennets. This video shows it reasonably well, with sources spesifics cited along the way. Certainly easy enough to find if needed in real recorded history.

Able to leap over tall buildings in a single bound, stronger than a runaway freight train, faster than a speeding bullet, it's "Son O' God". Known as "Jesus Christ", mild mannered healer-prophet by day, at night he transforms into "Son O'God" to battle sin and evil in all it's nefarious forms.

Paulogia, Genesis is wrong, but simple on this point: there was a dusk and a dawn, a ... Day. The word day is consistent in its usage in the OT. Please don't use analysis of the English word to determine the meaning of the original. (By the way, Genesis has 3 dusks and dawns before the Sun was created. :-)

Paulogia - In a previous Ham & AiGs, the creationists had mocked the dinosaur/bird connection by depicting a Brachiosaurus on the edge of a cliff being encouraged to fly... when they affirm that dinosaurs lived to be a thorn in the side of the knights of the round table, do they advocate that "dragons" flew?
