he called his own retirement citing " being bullied" and the " Harsh enviroment of politics" basically blamed the media and mainly Jordie for exposing his bullshit. There was more drama after he retired. Just before his retirement in goverment, he created a new position in the goverment something like " American trade tourism advisor for NSW". 500K a year job and a house and all the rest paid for in the US. Retired then like 2 months later was appointed to the position. If i wrote it in a movie you wouldnt believe it.

One of the advantages of the Australian legal system is loser pays. This gives anyone especially the rich, a huge disincentive to actually go to court unless they are sure they can win. Legal threats are common but legal action is far less common. If you call their bluff they often fold to avoid paying for your legal costs and court costs when they lose. As a result, lawyers are much less aggressive chasing court action.
@Mad44006 ай бұрын
It actually gives great incentive for the rich to pursue it because they can drag out the proceedings to the point you are broke and can no longer afford to fight it. So then you lose. Lawyers aren't waiting until the end of the case to see who to give the invoice to. You'll be paying for their time to prepare the case beforehand and then for each appearance.
@warpeace88916 ай бұрын
@@Mad4400 I think you misunderstand. You are describing all legal systems. The rich will always have the advantage. At least in Australia, I don't have to pay anything at all if I win. Lawyers will do what they are told or they have anything to do. Their greed is their god. The result is always at the end in all jurisdictions. Why do you think most cases are settled? Journalists are supposed to hold the powerful in society accountable. That's why there's Freedom of the Press, unfortunately most journalism has been tainted by dark money, so therefore instead of bringing corruption to light like they're supposed to do, they instead obfuscate & misdirect the public providing cover for their corporate overlords. This guy is a true genuine journalist & he's making a difference.
@A_Haunted_Pancake4 ай бұрын
That's the ideal, but there's no "supposed to". Journalism was pretty much invented by rich people to influence the public in ways that benefit themself and occasionally to smear their competition / people that are in their way. Fortunately, there has been SOME evolution, but it's very much a 2 steps forward, 1 3/4 steps backwards process.

Take it from an Australian and Jordies patreon, John Barillaro is a conservative. He's from the LNP (Liberal National Party) which is our conservative party. And conservatives do hate Jordies, so do some in the even further left area (that doesn't really exist in your country). That was an unforced error MC. Liberalism is the economic policy. Labor (us democrats) and Greens (us greens) are our main left wing, there are other parties but they don't have any statistical significance. We use preferential voting, you'd call it ranked choice. So I can vote my conscience so long as I know where my preferences are going. If you had that you'd see immediate changes. And if you got rid of gerimandering, conservative politics wouldn't be a rush to the bottom. Now that Biden has dropped out you should be demanding from Harris + (insert running mate) to give you some concessions in order to win over your vote. Personally I'd lean into unfucking SCOTUS, but that's just a few things a socialist from across the sea has noticed. Take care, thanks for reading.

It's not really unsafe for him to be in Australia. It's very easy to hide in plain sight in this country. Not even the government has a clue where a lot of people live here. Having multiple addresses is normal. Living in a place you're name isn't even associated with is not uncommon. Paying with cash is normal. You don't need to link your phone to your ID or anything. People can go missing very easily in this country by choice or otherwise.

Last line from Charlie was odd. Barilaro was leader of the National Party, which is a conservative, right-wing party. Always have been. They have always claimed to represent the interests of rural Australians (their original name was the Country Party). Nationals work with the Liberal Party (a more urban-based conservative party) as a Coalition. So when there are elections it's essentially the Coalition (right-wing) vs Australian Labor Party (also right-wing but masquerading as left-wing). The only truly left-wing party in Australia are the Greens, who chiefly espouse traditional Labor policies (before Labor abandoned them in the 1980s) and get called left-wing lunatics by the Murdoch Press. Australian politics is fun. 😀

@le_me54105 ай бұрын
Gotta correct your comment at the end about Barilaro not being a conservative. On a scale left to right it goes Greens, Labor, Liberals, Nationals, he was deputy premier of a liberal national coalition government. Older conservatives think that he's not that bad because the right wing media omits the bad shit he got up to and zeros in on the 'cyber bullying'.

@yanakaizzz93356 ай бұрын
Yeah I am an Aussie, and even my grandpa who still thinks legacy media is worth watching thinks hes alright. We remarked about how following Laurie Oaks retiring from journalism Jordan Shanks is the only true journalist left in the country. Solid research, well presented. He is politically leaning towards one side of governement however, but after the shit show the LNP left behind and after such a suspiciously long term (perhaps the problem of under performing birth rates...) its not hard as a political reporter to fall into the other camp.

A "brumby" is a wild/feral horse. Australia has no native horses, so they tend to trample the natural environment and do a bunch of damage to the High Country, but they are also popular because ...wild horse are pretty cool.

Where he gets it thrown out due to mental health - yes it's a thing here. An 18yo dragged a nurse into a lane - all caught on CCTV tried to assault her, had her laying on the ground trying to force her legs open was stopped by a passerby and the judge threw out the case because he 'didnt take his pants off' and his family had received death threats so they 'already suffered enough'. The nurse had to leave her job due to post traumatic stress she was having.
