Funny, I live in Edmonton in Canada and this song was huge. Went to number 1. I looked this song up and apparently Canada was the only place it was big. They would even play this whole song on the radio. I think Game without Frontiers by Peter Gabriel was huge around the same time so you had these two different songs out at the same time. It was pretty cool

This song is timeless. I never get tired of listening to it. When I want to escape this world for a short while, this is my go to. The minute the first word is spoken you drift off into the golden age of film. The heroes and villains once again come to life and overtakes one’s imagination. True escapism for your mind.

THANK YOU so much for posting this masterpiece and for listing the actors' names! The number of times I've tried to work out what they're laughing about right at the end! SUCH a shame Nemo Studios in Hampton Gurney Street, W1 in London, where so many classic Vangelis and Jon and Vangelis albums were recorded was not preserved as a site of musicological importance. The building is now a block of flats I believe! But everything Vangelis wrote between about 1976 and around 85-6, when he moved to France was recorded at Nemo. As a student I went down one day, having read the address in a NME article at the time on Vangelis, and being the cocky 18 year old Music Conservatoire youth that I was, I knocked on the door - not entirely sure what it was I was going to say! Alas the great man himself was not there, but I had a lovely conversation with a chap from the floor below in the staircase, leaning on about 5 brand new Yamaha DX7s, that were just leaning up against the wall! All these years later, with my opera career now behind me, due to long term illness, I'm trying to find out what kind of life I might have had, had I not chosen to sing, and instead followed my fascination for electronic music. That's why - in a recent Jean-Michel Jarre remix competition on metapop.com I remixed JMJ's "Robots Don't Cry" IN THE STYLE OF FRIENDS OF MR CAIRO!! I enjoy bucking the trend!! My 'stagename' Classicalbanksy and debut album title "Transgenre" are testament to that! I hope you enjoy - and love and thanks to both Jon and the great man himself!! soundcloud.com/classicalbanksy/robots-dont-cry-the-mega-remix

I haven't heard this song since I was 15! For the longest time, I thought it was called the Gangster Chronicles. What a gem!

Kudos!!! A very Brilliant editing job on this video, for a really great song!! I still have Jon and Vangelis' first 2 albums on vinyl. Your video popped up, as I was surfing for Demis Roussos albums. Demis passed away today, and he was in the 70's Greek Rock Band, "Aphrodite's Child" along with Vangelis. That's probably why your video was there. I hadn't heard, "Friends of Mr. Cairo" in awhile, so I clicked on your Video, and I'm glad I did. Thanks for posting it.

I heard this on the radio a few times in my bedroom when i was a teen then haven't heard it again for 26 years. Always looked for it only knowing a few words and chords. "Johnny's gonna die" Finally found it last May i was Ecstatic!

So few of the "younger persuasion" understand what real music was like in the 60's 70's and 80's.

Having been fortunate in my youth to experience the movie cinama houses of afternoon matinees or the open air drive-in theaters gazing at the magical powers that the silver screen had over my young active imagination, I am taken back there by the wonderfully orchestrated vocal and visual presentation of those times by this clip. So many wonderful stars and voices that were all real efforts and not digitally molested as most are today.
