These are a couple of questions we are often asked.... What we do here at The Friesian Experience is quite different to what you will find elsewhere and words don't always get the message across. This wonderful video, courtesy of FEI 'Ride' gives you a little taster of our ethos and why we do what we do.
In a nutshell, we specialise in the education and welfare of Friesian horses and provide sanctuary for those in need. Alongside this we welcome visitors to a beautiful and therapeutic environment here at Greenbank Farm where the natural energy of our horses enables you to explore your own emotions.

The horse is a very beautiful animal. I must admit that the friesian are for me the most beautiful. They have an elegance in the way they wear their heads that I find very beautiful. Horses saved my life on a few occassions where life was very tuff for me. God gave me the perfect gift, a companion that doesn't judge and is so gentle and kind. Horses are therapy for me lol. Just grooming is a gift for me :) scratching those itches and getting to interact with them is just special. God made a wonderful creation in the horse. There.is.just.something about them that speaks to my soul.

Oh MY! That has been my favorite breed since I found them ..... perhaps 10 years ago. I've ridden many horses and owned quite a few on our little farm. In one resort stable that I was a trail guide at ~ there was a wonderful horse that I developed a connection with. He was all of the guide's favorites, and since I was the last one hired, I never got to ride him, even once. Previous guides got first pick! He was always IT ! It was acceptable to me to use the other 'guide mounts', but 'Pooka' knew me, and altho we were not a 'trail' team, he'd look for me, always greeting me with a whinny, or his hello 'voice' ! This beauty stood 16 hands, was very black, with a white star and one coronet. He had a 'substantial' very huggable neck and very thick mane, his tail touched the ground. Oh.... he was very nice and smooth riding, and only once was strangely difficult when an unfamiliar horse joined us on the trail = something about that horse upset him and Pook kept challenging him and threatening him! Perhaps the 'visitor' was a stallion..... didn't check! HOW I happened to be riding him is very surprising ~ actually quite shocking ! I had to get myself and my four children into a better position 'financially', so had to leave the resort and go through college. But the owner of the huge resort had learned about my connection with his best horse, and surprised me by actually GIVING him to me after I left! My good buddy, the carriage driver, told the boss that Pook was too old for the work and was always bossing the other horses around - 'king' of the pastures!. We had 20 wonderful years together ! He was very protective (!) and loyal ~ and I miss him so very much. He got colic, or an obstruction, and left earth (& me) forever. Our vet knew Pooka since he was a colt and swore that Pooka was close to 50 years old. This vet was aged and had worked in our area for many many years.... and swore he had been Pooka's vet since he became a vet ! He still had most of his teeth and looked, & acted, almost like a young stud [Pooka = NOT the vet!]. What a blessing he was to me .... we covered a lot of wooded trails, and he took such good care of me! A lot of good memories ! Friesians remind me of him. Your video warmed this old lady's heart.... Thank you ! ps - there ARE horses in Heaven.... the Bible says Jesus returns on a white horse. ~ maybe a 'bleached' Friesian ! =D
