It's so hard because personally I really enjoyed this movie. That being said I also have issues with my mother-in-law and that kind of hit me that way coming out of this movie. I would put this in the good for her genre of horror along with Pearl, the witch, Carrie... Ect.

6:55 and the fact that the husband was the way he was, eventually lead me to think he was in on some weird religious thing and that maybe the visions were true. But nope. He’s just a wuss and the movie still didn’t go anywhere. And what’s with the necklace..
@BoxOfChocolatez3 ай бұрын
Yeah the necklace is the one "supernatural" thing that is kind of hard to explain rationally. I guess it's not impossible, but it's kind of a stretch.
@chocolatecoveredcherries78964 ай бұрын
It was gross, but to say that the movie sucked, is a bit dramatic. I would consider it a psychological horror film because the antagonist was essentially a witch that belonged to a "Christian" cult who used spells, and her old age to bring the protagonists to their knees. She got into the mind of Brandy and drove her insane & violent.
@BoxOfChocolatez4 ай бұрын
I agree with that assessment as a horror film, I just found the execution moment to moment to differ so much from feeling horrified for Brandy, to feeling like I should be laughing, to feeling like a straightforward drama. But my experience with it certainly did suck lol

@DannyTruthMagnified so true!! You actually just read my mind lol. I kept thinking that same thing about talk to me and A24 movies. They hyped up talk to me so much. I recently just saw babygirl in theaters and enjoyed heretic. Both had good concepts but the ending could have been executed better. I find many are better in the first half and then rushed or convoluted third act. It does seem their films are hit or miss. I heard front room was awful and more dark comedy than horror. I did enjoy the uniqueness of strange darling and other smaller independent films last year.

I’m a HUGE movie enthusiast especially horror movies, aspiring business owner and actress. I’ve already watched 33 movies the year including the Front Room. I watched this movie to support Brandy, A24 and I love horror movies. This movie was ok to me but not good let alone great. It had some interesting themes and solid performances but it was kinda disappointing for me because I was looking forward to watching this and it was just mid for me but still not terrible in my opinion. i saw the movie today. here my review. spoilers below the grandmother is a good actor and i loved her. she was charming in beginning in few bits but after her introduction to house. her screen time with events of her pissing/taking shit. it made me uncomfortable. everyone's in my theaters who saw that wanted the movie over. we all were grossed out. we all did laugh in certain aspects but i kid you not. i wanted her to have powers of cult or demon worshiper. nope. she just crazy old woman. i only saw one trailer and figured it be fun to watch. i feel if you made the grandma shit once or twice. make her die earlier in the movie. haunt the family with her religion antics. it would been better movie to be horror. i felt when she died in the ending. i never felt so happy to have her stop talking. the constantly "help me" and whistling just over stayed it welcome. im glad i didn't buy popcorn to this movie. i would thrown it up seeing all this shit on screen. it 5/10 movie

A movie can be many negative things and still be redeemable but what it can't be is ... Boring! That's where I get angry at a bad but potentially good flick. After all the confusion and disgust I had to endure it ended on as contritely a cliche way possible. It's as if it was written by Chap-GPT. It made Brandi's comeback a throwback into obscurity. Her character had not an iota of chemistry with the male lead. In fact, no one was likable in any way, making me not care about what happens to anyone. It had all the elements of a deeply disturbing discourse on the power of religious zealotry vs modern reasoning over the soul of a child in an ongoing dispute between two mothers and their versions of love. However, it was only a bad exercise in body horror and a wacky protagonist to cover its numerous story development flaws.

ok, this was most definitely NOT a horror movie, but I was entertained. While it wasn't scary there were scenes that were so out of hand that I found them hilarious. Kathryn Hunter was actually fantastic as the stepmother. She was EATING the scenery every scene and I thought it was fun to watch her. It was not very well written but well made, I liked the use of mirrors during the interior shots, it was almost all interiors. It was a tight 96 minutes which I always appreciate. I kept waiting for a horror turn but it never came. I can say it was not boring, which to me is the worst offense a movie can make. Watch it when it's streaming.
