One of the best scenes of the movie!
The Fugitive is a 1993 American action thriller film based on the 1960s television series of the same name created by Roy Huggins. The film was directed by Andrew Davis and stars Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones, Sela Ward, Joe Pantoliano, Andreas Katsulas, and Jeroen Krabbé. The screenplay was written by David Twohy and Jeb Stuart from a story by Twohy. After being framed for the murder of his wife and sentenced to death, Dr. Richard Kimble escapes from custody following a bus crash and sets out to find the real killer and clear his name while being hunted by the police and a team of U.S. Marshals.
The Fugitive premiered in Westwood on July 29, 1993, and was released in the United States and Sweden on August 6, 1993. It was a critical and commercial success, spending six weeks as the #1 film in the United States, and grossing nearly $370 million worldwide against a $44 million budget. It was the third-highest-grossing film of 1993 domestically with an estimated 44 million tickets sold in the U.S. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture; Jones won for Best Supporting Actor. It was followed by a 1998 spin-off, U.S. Marshals, in which Jones reprised his role as Deputy Marshal Gerard along with some others of his earlier Marshals team.

It's basically the turning point. Kimble's prerogative was to avoid detection and keep moving. He had no reason to interfere with what he was asked to do but couldn't help himself because he knew the diagnosis was wrong. This ultimately gets him caught. But when Gerard learns that Kimble basically sacrificed a chance to get away to save someone's life, he starts to realize Kimble might be innocent. This ties into an earlier scene when a reporter asked the police something to the effect of "Kimble keeps doing all these good things for people, maybe he's actually innocent?"

This and the meeting with the one-armed man "He's dirty" - Gerard are what get him to start questioning, but he doesn't let up one bit despite that. He has a job, he's gonna do it. Only once he finally pieces the last bit together about Dr Nichols does he start to truly believe he's been chasing an innocent man, but he still pursues him - but with a new drive to capture him alive and help to defend him against those trying to kill him.

A really lovely scene. I have read that the character development between Julianne Moore and Harrison Ford was more extensive as originally planned. It all ended up on the cutting room floor. Even in this brief scene I think Moore inhabits that character. No small parts, only small actors. Too much to hope for that one day some director's cut re-assembles the missing parts and allows more of the Ford/Moore chemistry to develop. Thanks Stadium 79 for posting.

Always strikes me every time I see this movie how many people saw Kimball walk right by them and NOT ONE person recognizes him.
@drygnfyre
@drygnfyre 8 ай бұрын
Kimball looks like he belongs. He's just another guy wearing a uniform. He doesn't stick out, he just kind of looks like everyone else. Ironically this is the best way to evade detection. Trying to dress like a ninja, appearing like you're nervous to be there, anything like that makes you stick out and can get you caught. Meanwhile if you have self-confidence and just walk around normally (holding a clipboard helps a lot, too), you'd be amazed how little attention you'll detect. There's actually a KZbin channel where guys do this. They will have clipboards, wear hard hats, or hi-vis vests, and just walk right past security. One of them even managed to get into the Super Bowl.

Cannot believe, still to this day, she didn't get an Oscar for Boogie Nights. Maybe because one could argue the film glorified the porn industry, but Kim Bassinger?! REALLY? The most moving scene in the movie. Here is a man who has been falsely imprisoned trying to prove his innocence and yet he sees a child whose life is in the balance. He suspects the child either has a pneuothorax (punctured lung) , cardiac tamponade (where the lining of the heart gets filled with fluid) or more likely aortic dissection - where the main artery coming off the heart has been ruptured by the fractured sternum. Either one of these three can be life threatening and need surgical intervention. He is risking getting caught and going back to prison for the rest of his life but his doctor instincts take over and he helps the child in need. Then when Deputy Gerrard finds out that Kimble saved the child's life he must have wondered "Is this man innocent?" IT was the turning point of the movie. Absolultely brilliant acting.
