Akuma looks evil, but his true alignment is chaotic neutral. And what cements him not being evil is him giving food to an some beggar child. Actually he has more in common with classic Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, since Scorpion be from hell and looking evil is also honorable doesn't harm the innocent.

he still has some humanity left in him as akuma. shin akuma is when he is at his absolute limit while still able to control himself. i'd go on a limb and say that shin akuma is stronger than oni, for the simple fact that restraint is also a type of strength - just look at superman. strength doesnt mean raw power, and akuma is wise enough to know letting his power control him is weakness; he'd no better than bison relying on the satsui no hado like a crutch. akuma might seem evil but he has some level of good in him, in his own way the fact that hes obsessed with making ryu like him means deep down he does love his adopted nephew.... even if he has a weird way of showing it.

Fun fact: Akuma was actually in Street Fighter 2 the animated movie. If you watch closely to what's actually going on while Dhalsim is fighting and senses a power after Ryu is already in the vicinity. It wasn't Ryu he was sensing. It was Akuma.

@@Wrekkshoppe yeah back when street fighter didnt really know what to do with itself. in the story we didnt even know sagats ties to shadaloo other than hes the 2nd-to-last boss. and his endings gave the indication he's only with bison JUST to fight ryu. in most media he was just a straight villain. sf2 takes place AFTER alpha 3 (the canon midquel between 1 and 2) which gave context to wanting to rematch ryu, realizing that beating ryu alone wouldnt fix his pride, leaves shadaloo and is now in sf2 seeking a clean fight with ryu. all of that was in the alpha series, well after sf2.

This is what breaks Akuma being Ryu's dad. If Ryu was his son he would've been already at the dojo of gouken. Not left there on the steps of Gouken's temple. It would've been said Akuma's girl left him there. But it doesn't. Ryu is not the son of Akuma because of that part. But. It IS the most liked by fans for akuma to be Ryu's dad.
