While I certainly agree Zemasu is a terrific villain, I remember after learning an evil Goku arrived, I was hoping like mad he'd turn out to be a Goku from an alternate timeline who did Not hit his head as a baby and therefore completed his mission to annihilate Earth. Later in his life, he meets and actually befriends Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz, with whom he faces Frieza with to avenge the Saiyans. Frieza murders Vegeta and this triggers this Goku's transformation into a Super Saiyan and kills Frieza. Ultimately in this alternate saga, this version of Goku becomes that universe's God of Destruction.

For anyone still confused, this is as simple as i can make it Goku Black came to be when Zamasu from Universe 10 used the Super Dragon Balls to switch bodies with Goku. After the swap, Zamasu, now in Goku's body, killed Goku (in Zamasu's body) along with Chi-Chi and Goten. He then traveled to Future Trunks' timeline, where he met another version of himself (Future Zamasu) who had also become disillusioned with mortals. This Future Zamasu had used the Super Dragon Balls to become immortal. Together, they formed an alliance, combining their powers and ideologies to enact the "Zero Mortals Plan," aiming to eradicate all mortal life across the multiverse. Also the explanation to how Zamasu in Goku's body was able to kill Goku in Zamasu's body is below After switching bodies with Goku using the Super Dragon Balls, Zamasu, now in Goku's powerful Saiyan body, quickly attacked and killed Goku, who was now in Zamasu's less powerful body. The suddenness of the attack, combined with the significant power advantage Goku's body possessed, allowed Zamasu to overpower and eliminate Goku (in Zamasu's body) with ease.

I still wish Goku Black was an evil Goku but that's probably too edgy for DB and would make goku look bad. It's still a great plot but exploring the idea of what could turn Goku evil is super interesting. Did he just never hit his head? or was there some traumatic event like the death of his family, maybe all of the earth? I feel like there was a lot of potential to explore something interesting but of course, Goku could never really be evil even in an alternate timeline,

Goku Black/Zamasu is a great villain, which is why he is such a despicable person who killed mortals due to his misguided and hypocritical judgement, killed his fellow gods due to putting himself above them, and technically won when he didn't deserve to. I despise all versions of Zamasu, and they deserved being erased from existence.

Goku Black is from the main timeline, not Future Trunks's timeline. When Zamasu traveled a year into the future *in the main timeline*, he created an alternate timeline where he steals Goku's body. Only after that does he travel to Future Trunks's timeline.

This arch actually has to be a slog to watch and the villian became so op that they had to use a deus ex machina to solve the problem. At least the manga cuts a lot of the fat that the show has but damn dude. Even in the manga they couldn't find a way to clean this mess up without literal Devine intervention.
