In 1996 bought a 91 w250 cummins single cab wrecked bent frame and swapped an '82 w250 club cab. In 2007 bought a 91 w250 single cab cummins and stretched (cut frame) to make a crew cab. In 2009 bought a '93 d350 dually cummins and '85 crew and swapped (NOT CUT). And have a 92 d250 regular cab. I own and drive all 4 trucks. milages are 325k, 475k, 220k, 257k respectively with lots of heavy towing. All VE pumps..3 stock 1 turned up. 3 autos 1 getrag. Cannot get less then 9mpg (ve will not put in more fuel) and up to 23.....mostly 15 towing...the getrag gets 2mpg better. Oh limiting part...rear axle...so I have 3 extra and replaced 1...(all 3.54)

Thats cool how your 93 front doors fit on the 85 body if im saying that right, did you have a couple guys helping you, looked like a months worth of work in 5 days, Ive spent over a year now transplanting everything from an 87 d150 onto a 47 dodge one ton and it drives and gets around but still a ton of work left to do on it, amazing how you did all that in under a week

Ok- really glad you posted this. I’m doing what you have done, with the exception of extending the frame to use a 8 ft bed. I have pics on Pinterest under my name if you search for it, and have briefly slowed down due to the NV heat. Plan on picking it back up when it cools a bit.... mine started as a w350 crew gasser which now has a non-innercooled CTD in it- but not totally bolted up yet. Still a work-in-progress and waaaay behind you. But yours is a great inspiring video!! Thanks for that- Steven Hemphill

So forgive my ignorance but why did you swap the engine to the other one instead of swapping the cab to the other one?
@decentgarage
@decentgarage 4 жыл бұрын
Great question. The best way to do one of these swaps is to use the crew frame. In all of these 1st gen dodges the frame bumps up right behind the cab. So putting a crew cab on a ext cab frame the bump hits the floors in the rear.

I’m considering buying a 93 just like your club cab was. Some questions regarding your original club cab. 3.54 gears? Was your auto transmission the A518? If so, any transmission upgrades? How did the transmission handle the 8k trailer to Mississippi? Out travel trailer is about 11000lbs. I would, of course, be beefing up the engine and transmission Just trying to get an idea how well the automatic performs.

Out of everything the wiring harness was what I was fearing the most. I took tons and tons of pictures before i pulled the harness from the donor which helped a ton. Then I took a whole day to swap it over and carefully took my time. In the end it came out perfect.

Have a 93 crew I was finally able to talk my father in law into selling. Engine runs flawlessly. Trans oil pan was bent and run with no fluid. Other than that the only serious issue is all the wiring is shot. Combination of squirrels and budweiser. In your experience of swapping everything over. Is it worth getting a universal wiring harness and just starting from scratch or am I better off trying to redo oem.

If you can find a clean donor harness from the same year and same configuration truck that would be ideal but that is almost impossible. Painless wiring harnesses are expensive but they are a great option.

I've always like the 5th gen ram silver color so I went with it 🤷‍♂️

@@decentgarage i didnt mean anything by it, im just more into the stock two-tone look like the green and tan that the bed was. To each their own👍

@@portalbucket5365 no worries! I love the two tone as well. For my first paint job i didn't think I could pull off the two tone though. Thanks for the comments though 👍

Awesome video! I will be using it as a reference once I start mine in the near future. What’s your suspension setup, how does it ride. What would you recommend for economical, daily smooth ride without breaking the bank. Some forums I have read, that with the proper leafs it’ll ride smooth. Jordan thanks. 🇨🇦

I have stock suspension on mine and to me it rides fine. I have monroe shocks. I will likely upgrade my leafsprings in the near future to either level the front or go 4" lift all the way around.

I hate that you destroyed that beautiful 93 for the crew cab. But I understand why you did it. I just couldn't justify doing that myself since there's not many of thoes Cummins trucks left. But oh well, it's in the past can't change it. The crew cab looks amazing though! I want to eventually have a Cummins sawpped crew cab myself.

Why not just buy parts to build the 4 dr. It’s a shame to ruin the perfectly good extended cab.
