In 1996 bought a 91 w250 cummins single cab wrecked bent frame and swapped an '82 w250 club cab. In 2007 bought a 91 w250 single cab cummins and stretched (cut frame) to make a crew cab. In 2009 bought a '93 d350 dually cummins and '85 crew and swapped (NOT CUT). And have a 92 d250 regular cab. I own and drive all 4 trucks. milages are 325k, 475k, 220k, 257k respectively with lots of heavy towing. All VE pumps..3 stock 1 turned up. 3 autos 1 getrag. Cannot get less then 9mpg (ve will not put in more fuel) and up to 23.....mostly 15 towing...the getrag gets 2mpg better. Oh limiting part...rear axle...so I have 3 extra and replaced 1...(all 3.54)

@decentgarage4 жыл бұрын
Great question. The best way to do one of these swaps is to use the crew frame. In all of these 1st gen dodges the frame bumps up right behind the cab. So putting a crew cab on a ext cab frame the bump hits the floors in the rear.

I’m considering buying a 93 just like your club cab was. Some questions regarding your original club cab. 3.54 gears? Was your auto transmission the A518? If so, any transmission upgrades? How did the transmission handle the 8k trailer to Mississippi? Out travel trailer is about 11000lbs. I would, of course, be beefing up the engine and transmission Just trying to get an idea how well the automatic performs.

how hard was swapping the wiring harness? that is the only part that i would have an issue with. Very nice vid.

Out of everything the wiring harness was what I was fearing the most. I took tons and tons of pictures before i pulled the harness from the donor which helped a ton. Then I took a whole day to swap it over and carefully took my time. In the end it came out perfect.
@mattcullifer75053 жыл бұрын
Have a 93 crew I was finally able to talk my father in law into selling. Engine runs flawlessly. Trans oil pan was bent and run with no fluid. Other than that the only serious issue is all the wiring is shot. Combination of squirrels and budweiser. In your experience of swapping everything over. Is it worth getting a universal wiring harness and just starting from scratch or am I better off trying to redo oem.

If you can find a clean donor harness from the same year and same configuration truck that would be ideal but that is almost impossible. Painless wiring harnesses are expensive but they are a great option.
