Phantom Liberty is a masterpiece. When I first met So Mi I saw her as a netrunning god. A fearsome foe and a helpful ally. When it ended, all I saw was a little girl begging for help, and I told her no. All for an ending I didn't even like. 10/10

With Johnny we know they aren’t A) lore and B) even Alt tells us so. At no point is something like that ever mentioned regarding So Mi And they are spies okay. And yes they used you. But so what? Do you think they are not also still humans with their weak spots and fears? It’s like saying V is a paid killer so everything else they do or feel is not valid.

Whatever happened in her past, now she's killing innocents, betraying everyone's trust incl. yours then plays the innocent puppy needing help only to hand her over to the unknown Mr. Blue Eyes without helping you. Since Mr. Blue teleports to various locations (Perezales, Space Dock), he awfully looks like rogue AI and with him having Song away from Earth & Netwatch in orbit, it's as good as signing humanity's end by unleashing the AIs. At least evil Militech is pro-humanity, never mind also tapping into the Blackwall, so it's no good to hand her to Reed either, but a bit better and I do believe in Reed's misguided sense of loyalty. He really wants to help. Best thing is letting So Mi die and close the Blackwall floodgate, that is clear. The Blackwall supercedes any moral decision: humanity is at stake and a living So Mi is a danger.

Operative or not, self-preservation is and should always be the primary value. Not "honor" or "usefulness" or whatever false value that is fed to you to make you compliant. I set her free and I didn't care that she had been lying to me the entire time. She wanted to live just as V wanted to live. When deceit is the coin of the realm, honesty is subversive.

Having done all endings, I have to say, it's hard to judge. Reed and Alex are completely upright about their goal : For Alex, it's self interest, for Reed, it's duty before all. Meier is an absolute dirt bag of a human being, with only goal the NUSA rise, but she's also fairly upright about it. Songbird is here for freedom, but she's the only one lying every step of the way

She knows V's situation and knew she can't say no. But she never mentioned back then there was only 1 cure dose and that she was going to use it for herself. Screw Songbird.

Myers always appeared like she was grooming So Mi from the start, first with that “carrying” talk after the oath, then the medal, then the whole talk about her being her favorite, having her set up Reed to test her loyalty and probably isolate her even more. And then eventually stripping her off her body parts and turning her into a walking talking weapon only existing to serve her deranged goals.

And it did work to some extent since there are instances where So Mi reflects Myers. As for her being her successor I think Myers knew that So Mi wouldn’t live long enough to make it that far.

So Mi is basically the second V. They both f-ed quite badly at some point, because of their ambition was bigger than reason. The only difference is when V dies, they'll be gone fo good while Song slowly turns into some kind of human-AI hybrid, never alive but also not dead. The Walking Hell(gate), with Blackwall just inches away... We may question her methods, but we should never judge her reasons. After all, I'm certain we were in her situation, most of us would do same things she did.

Yup this. That's also why I emphasize with her so much. In a way she's another person just like V is, with similar problems and all. In fact, I think that there's no one who understands V better than So Mi and vice versa. IDK how it's like on the Moon, but I hope she's happy and frankly, every NUSA goon I had to put into the dirt for that was a worthy sacrifice.

I don’t know man one of the devs said on a recent RED stream that they are most likely not bringing her back. Yet I feel there’s so much more to her story and the blackwall and everything. Plus 2 of her endings are pretty much open ended and in one Myers gets the body and before that she connects to the cynocure core. Even if she doesn’t return I still hope there are some references to her in Orion.

Since the Moon ending is the one with by FAR the least closure and the most questions, I'm almost certain its canon. Not to mention, it leaves the world in a much more volotile place with the next corporate war possibly being sparked by it. That also means that So Mi may return and honestly, I'd love that. She's easily the best character in the game for me.

CDPR has written yet another beautiful yet complex character ever for Cyberpunk and I absolutely adored how they have written So Mi, the way they wrote her can make how audiences like us to have different perspectives on her as her morals and actions may seem evil to some but to others, an caged bird doing everything that she could to have her freedom and her own survival.. When I first saw the first PL trailer ever released I was already set on So Mi’s interesting character from the very beginning and till now, will always be my favourite and comfort character at the same time.. I am the type of person who would always put others first before my own and I was already set on saving Songbird, she deserves to be freed after many years of torment and being forced to dive and venture to the BlackWall ultimately destroying her true self in the process.. I can’t imagine how painful it would be to know that you have lost your real self and everybody around you that you loved and cared for , while having your personality and mind taken over slowly destroying you physically and mentally… Beautiful character ❤️❤️❤️

Man on my first blind playthrough I fully trusted SongBird and was genuinely shocked when she broke the truth to us on the train on the way to her ship outta there, fully believing maybe there’s a chance for V somehow, and going against reed and Alex, but nah, all hope is lost with her. Just completed my Second playthrough including phantom liberty and betraying songbird puts you through so many of the games BEST missions in my opinion, especially that final Resident Evil esque mission when hiding from the Mech, genuinely Phantom Liberty is a masterpiece. I am so happy this game is as good as it is now, especially after being such a diamond in the rough for so long.

Call me naive if you want, but I like to believe that there's some hope when we send her to the moon. I might be extrapolating here, but I assume that Mr Blue Eyes and his faction want to test the neural matrix, to see if it could heal Song. Mr Blue Eyes and whoever he represents don't really have a reason to kill her, mostly because there's no way in hell she'd ever report their doings to anyone important, for the sake of her own self-preservation. Hopefully, she will be allowed to stay on Tycho, perhaps under observation. If nothing else, at least she's swapped out her cage for one that isn't actively pushing her into spikes

she is a very conflicting and compelling character. She did turn on Reed yet it was Reed who offered her the FIA deal. She did blow off her friends, like her boyfriend, but she also accepted the FIA deal because they were making threats at her friends. She did down SF1 yet it was her who recruited V to extract Myers or any survivors out. She did lure V In with the cure yet it was her who unlocked the Relics hidden upgrades and the immense power multiplier it hid. She did string V along with the cure yet it was her who confessed to the reality at the very last second when she was completely defenseless and at his mercy. She did form a perma connection to the blackwall in cynosore yet it was her who stopped the murderbot from finishing V off and allowing him to reach her in the core. Finally in the obfuscated lore it was her who set Reed up in the train yet it was her who called the trauma team on him to save his life. Her sign should be gemini, not capricorn

I empathize with So Mi, but Im a Corpo at heart lol. My V is someone who values his freedom and survival and is over the backstabbing he was previously accustomed to as an Arasaka employee. After having everything taken in the beginning, he wouldn't side with Myers(or any other Corp), but after the reveal of So Mi using us, he definitely wouldn't help her either. He'd at least give her the mercy of a quick death instead of being in Myers' hands, but he wouldn't go as far as to help her achieve the freedom she tried to use him for

I'm talking more about their role in the plot and their interactions with V. The characters in the base game were something incredible. Takemura's conversation in the construction site alone eats any other discussion or heart-to-heart convo V had ever had with anyone. Panam and her amazing characterization. Johnny and his incredible development. Even Rogue and her guilt. They're all better than Reed, Alex, or Som Mi, IMHHO. But I thought people might be talking about Reed and So Mi and Alex more now because PL just released a few months ago. Never realized people liked them more.

Its funny going into the dlc after beating the game fully i never really trusted songbird fully, to powerful of a netrunner with to say out of the blue i need your help so i always figured she was lying about something, but i couldnt turn her in to the nusa at the end, something bout being a lab rat for the rest of her life didnt sit right with me, especially cause myers didnt seem like the type to forgive, i hope she comes back in cyberpunk 2 cause id love to see what became of her and if she actually decided to believe in someone since it was me genuinely feeling bad for her and setting her free

I don't get the total unquestioned dedication for Song Bird. She is manipulative,a liar and has openly stabbed everybody she has known in the back. When you see her past even before joining the FIA she betrays and straight up burns friends and her partner. She is a self centered person who knows she keeps making lots of mistakes but just seems to do anything in her power to avoid the consequences of these actions. She crashes through her life recklessly without any care for who gets caught in her wake. I think that was the whole point of Phantom Liberty that everybody was shady and no one was to be trusted. But for some people i am surprised to see people straight out just wipe away alot of what song bird has done.

Considering how people are in CP 2077, it was clear from the start, that So Mi wasn't offering help out of generosity and once it is even a choice for V to call her out on her lies, she gaslights you and when you go against her, she gets mad like she did nothing wrong - only for her to realise in the end and sort of confess, that is was her only way to survive. She f'd around and found out. Sure, she was forced into a cage and all, but considering what happens if we join her cause, hundreds, maybe thousands of people die to save ONE life. I like how even V questions that outcome and even with the sacrifice of so many people, she has the audacity to only then reveal, that she alone gets cured but not V as well? Nah man, my Corpo V had a life to be saved as well and since So Mi relied so heavy on her, V is the only one to get a cure.

Songbird is a weapon. So Mi is a netrunner. Songbird is what anyone wants them to be. So Mi is a fallible, flawed human being who was already fighting trauma before the NUSA. They exploited her youth and inexperience. So Mi is definitely a covert narcissist, but a lot of that is because she was never given a healthy environment with which to flourish. Hurt people hurt people.

You mean when she was ordered to burn Reed? Homie, that's Meyers betraying Reed, not So Mi. She was practically a child when she was coerced into becoming an agent, weapon, and asset for the NUSA. She hasn't made her own choices since she signed her life away to save everyone she cared about. Now she has weeks to live after being turned into something she doesn't recognize in the mirror, with no way out. She cannot be blamed for doing whatever she could to reach freedom. And she came clean before the point of no return. It would have been easy to text V from the moon, "BTW, I lied and you're screwed." She didn't.

Is she a bad person? Sure. Does she deserve to have her mind completely overwritten by being forced to interact with the blackwall over and over until there's nothing left? She's already suffered greatly by the time she meets V. And everything that happens after she was recruited was probably not her choice, the FIA can seemingly be very 'persuasive' with its operatives. A fate worse than death. I'm not sure there's any character in the entire game that deserves such a harsh punishment, and Songbird's crimes seem pretty tame by those standards.

​@TheViperwarfare Well, V also can make decisions that results in mass death (innocents or otherwise) all in order to save his own skin: in all 3 endings where V assaults Arasaka Tower, almost every Arasaka employee in the tower ends up dying when Alt is uploaded (that would include civilian workers). Even if you choose the other 3 ending where you dont assault the tower, V's decision to go through with downing Hellman's AV results in many Aldecaldos dying and citywide blackout which no doubt harms many, many people. Those choices were all made because V wanted to live and decided his life was worth more than those he potentially harms/kills. Those choices are really no different from Song's decision to turn the stadium's defences on Hanson's soldiers, sacrificing their (and some civilians) lives for her's and V's. A lot of people seem to think otherwise which is laughably naive at best and hypocritical at worst. Also, of course she gets upset that V wasn't going through with her plan, even though v told her he'd help her (yes I know she was going to betray V anyway, but V doesn't necessarily know that at that point), she's upset at the betrayal and her plan not working as she intended for it, anyone would be. Additionally, I think Johnny is right when he says that she went cyberpsycho. The combined stress from the ICEBreaker and V's betrayal is likely what causes her to go full cyberpsycho and then become possessed by the rogue AI, if you choose Reed's route. When Song talks with that distorted voice, I think that's the rogue AI talking/influencing her, not the real her. When you choose her route, she still remains pretty mentally stable and fully in control of the rogue AI corruption (if not teetering on the edge of cyberpsychosis) and V is likely the only thing keeping her together.

There should have been a meeting between So Mi and Alt somewhere before you choose between Reed and So Mi that gave you an option to send her beyond the Blackwall with Alt. Someone theorized(with which I agree) that they may use her Netrunning prowess by mind controlling her like the Peralez family, and then proceeding to wrestle control from the mass drivers on Luna to establish dominance on the world stage for the AI legion. The ESA is currently the largest standing super-power in the Cyberpunk universe, and their LEO Mass Drivers are the primary sticking point of their arms and resources superiority. With them they're able to either deliver minerals to earth or use lunar rocks as high level destructive ordinance by firing them at cities. Now imagine instead of the Europeans it was the terrifying phantom beasts of cyberspace controlling said weapons, yeah.

This happens in 3 endings. Plus, even if V chooses the other 3 endings where no assault happens, V's decision to down Hellman's AV with an EMP results in a lot of Aldecaldos dying and a city wide blackout that no doubt harms (and possibly even kills) many many people. V even acknowledges that this might hurt people in the city. Those choices are really no different from Song's decision to turn the stadium's defenses on Barghest soldiers, sacrificing their (and some civilians') lives for her's and V's. I think it's naive or even hypocritical to think otherwise.

I do think she was completely truthful at point except for the cure part. But, I also understand why she decided to lie anyway. She was extremely desperate, trained/groomed to be manipulative, and was likely afraid of you refusing to help her if she did tell the whole truth (which V would have every right to do so mind you). If you find her medical report, it's revealed that she likely has Avoidant Personality Disorder, which apparently results in extreme fear of rejection. However, her desperation to live also justifies Vs who decide to prioritize their own life over hers, because she was doing the exact same to you. Me personally, my V was ultimately more selfless than selfish (even when he had every right to be selfish), and decided to help her to moon. Doing otherwise would have been a betrayal of himself imo. Also, he knew that he had other options of curing himself, so it wasn't entirely hopeless.

As a solo Nomad navigating the cesspool that is Night City where no one person or corp could be trusted I pegged being played by the NUSA & So Mi from the get. I wrestled with who i genuinely empathized with. Each mission teeter tottering me back & forth. By the killing moon i was left with trusting either Reed or Songbird. The moment Reed killed the twins in cold blood with no true justification was my come to jesus moment. What would stop him from doing me just like them? His dogmatic view on duty to country & countrymen would help him rationalize putting me in the dirt. Song while just as treacherous never had any other choice but to betray me. Up against it all alone with no allies being passed around as a bartering chip. I saw a little girl from new york begging for the one thing I’ve had the luxury of my whole life. Freedom. Maybe its the Rockerboy in me who saw everything he wish he was willing to do to stop Arasaka in this little girl or maybe me seeing myself as that gun ho nomad who thought he could rip off Arasaka with his once in a lifetime choom for a one way ticket to the Afterlife. We had a common struggle. I gave her the freedom no one else would. To my lack of better judgement.

@@ujbx Exactly, she is a very deep, complex, and ultimately human character, and I think that speaks well to her writing. In fact, all the characters in Phantom Liberty are. If Songbird truly was a manipulative sociopath with no absolutely no regard for others, she wouldn't feel such intense regret for what she did to Reed 7 years later. She also would have never have admitted to lying to V when she was right at the finish line, leaving herself completely vulnerable to a potentially vindictive V. She is a deeply hurt and flawed person who I think deep down is the kind of person who wants to change for the better (this is evidenced by the fact that she ends up confessing to V at her most vulnerable point out of extreme guilt) but ultimately feels like she has no other choice than to be manipulative and selfish, all in order to survive. That is how she was taught groomed to be for most of her adult life. In that kind of situtation I can't really blame her. It's still really shitty what she did and she is absolutely not a good person (I think she has the capacity to become one eventually) but I understand why she did it. V can make very similar choices to hers depending on the ending he chooses.

I'll say deciding between Reed & Song is a difficult moral question and I see So Mi's perspective though she decided to be a criminal in the first place, both saved & used by FIA. But whereas V's a hired gun NOT sentencing ppl. to death only following paid orders (and I always look to incapacitate over killing), So Mi knowingly put innocent lives into graves, not just Mayer's Air Force One civilian staff but whoever that died during the crash she set up. Mayer will use her till she breathes, but handing her to likely rogue AI-driven Mr. Blue Eyes so the Blackwall can take over from orbit is singing the end of humanity IMO. Horrible choice. The least blood happens if you fail the entire expansion after entering Dogtown but not saving either Mayer or Song who escaped but will likely not survive without the president up her sleeve.

!! MAJOR SPOILERS !! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !! . . . . . IMO, the best ending for Phantom Liberty is to let So Mi die in the Cynosure facility. If you let So Mi live and give her back to Myers, she'll most probably be abused again by Myers. If you fulfill So Mi's wish to fly her to the moon, you'll have to kill Reed, who is essentially a good guy but blinded by his loyalty to NUSA. By letting So Mi die, Myers will not have her blackwall puppet back, Reed will realize that Myers is full of BS, and So Mi finally get some peace.

Anyone who didnt help Songbird in the game is a cold asshole, the story built a rock solid case for her being young and stupid, and because of that she got manipulated into something she didnt want, becoming a pawn for forces outside of her control. How the fuck can anyone go "No, not gonna help her, that was her choice"?

I would never betray So Mi, I even refused doing that ending and only watched it on YT, lol. However I understand people who did otherwise, after all So Mi betrayed V. Yes, she said truth at the end but still. V went through bloodbath for them and she just lied to him/her. I also felt bad about it but I would never trust NUSA or any other politics or corps. Killing NUSA favourite puppet - Reed, was a pleasure.

I feel so sorry for her, she's certainly not the vilian of the story but the victum for sure. I do honestly hope she will have some closer in the next Cyberpunk 2 game, at least a word she's alive and well. The same should also be for V. I also understand that the game should move on, but the mentioning of both characters that they are save and well, is at least something we all deserve. And yes I always chose Songbirds side in the game, and get her save to the moon.

to be honest v, with the Canto mk6 in head. it already turns V into a super weapon too, also weaker than songbird but still a super weapon
