Hi Daz, great update mate. The pond packages sounds like a great idea. You can combine your CAD knowledge and bring in elements of pond design, filter / piping layouts etc. Hope you’re 2023 pans out the way you want it to, you deserve it 👍🏼

Happy new year mate and have a great 2023. What a brilliant idea getting up in a morning doing something you really love and making a living out of it can only be the best. Building koi bonds is so expensive because of the material cost nowadays everything is so more expensive. So getting it right and having the correct information is a must I think. Filtration is a biggie too and is so important to get it right too. DIY filters can be a option if your running short of cash it does not have too cost a arm and a leg. You can always add the more expensive filters if you want at a later stage when you have saved a bit of cash. You don’t have too have all this expensive equipment to be a successful koi keeper 👍

Some good positive plans there, I like it. Perhaps as a sub section of your build your pond plans you could have DIY filter build plans as well. I know Wrighty on KZbin appears to have had some success with this type of thing and it would open up your market to people with existing ponds looking to upgrade. All the best for the year ahead.

A video review of the costs associated with running a drum filter compared to a Nexus, etc, would be really useful and interesting 🙂 Glad to hear things are getting better for you, too.

We're in the process of building our own 7,000-gallon pond and are having trouble deciding between 2 drums or 2 Nexus filters. At the moment, we are thinking of one of each, but we keep flitting between the 2.

@@nikkig3677 Hi hi, I'm guessing you are planning two bottom drains given that you are looking at 2 filter systems. Drums are available that can handle ponds much bigger than 7000 gallons so I would suggest a single drum with two inlets, one from each bottom drain. Then outlet from the drum to a large moving bed filter for bio filtration. If the budget allows you can return the outlet from the moving bed back to the pond over a bakki shower. This would be the absolute best filter system you can have today in my opinion 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Yeah, that's right. Thanks for the advice. The reason we'd love to have a backup system us because we had a bad experience recently where our (only) filter broke, so we've had to go through another pond cycle, which wasn't ideal. This is why we've been looking at 2 filters for the upgrade. We also aren't sure if the 2 drain runs will be equal, and if they're not, we thought it was better to have 2 separate filters, as if both runs are going to the same filter they won't pull equally through the bottom drains, which we thought could be an issue. We're actually having a go at building our own bakki shower this weekend, following your videos on it. We're going to use it on our current setup as well as on the new one (probably via a skimmer). Our other option is an EA advanced bead (30")...what's your opinion on them? Thanks again, and good luck for all your upcoming projects.

Hi hi, yes the advanced beads are excellent. Your logic is sound with the two separate systems. I guess its a decision you have to make whether you sacrifice a lot of money and space in order to have two separate systems or trust the one drum filter to work as it should. I dont think anyone can tell you what you should do, it needs to be your decision, but for what its worth I'd go for the single drum. You could even fit a bypass around the drum so you can send water to a crude mechanical filter and then to the moving bed for if the drum does fail. You are also right in that you want the same flow on each drain. If they are both feeding one drum you would put a slide valve in each line before the drum so that you can throttle one or the other back slightly to balance the flows if needed.

From my experience, people nowadays dread fees especially on online courses.. that's why youtube is so successful because you can get so much information for free.. it's a win for the company, win for the creator and most importantly win for the viewers.. i'm may be wrong but success today is founded on that win-win-win value proposition

Hello mate and thanks for your help with this, I think I've sussed it now. I've got a new video on drums coming next weekend and this SHOULD be the last one with dodgy audio. From what I can tell, I have a pair of wireless mics and when I take one out of the charger case it connects to the receiver which is plugged in to the mic slot on the camera. The camera has left and right level bars and only the left one moves as I speak. If I get the second one out it connects and the audio for this one is on the right level bar. I've had a mess around with the buttons on them and I've got it such that both mics make both bars move so what each mic picks up will come out of both channels. I've not had a chance to try it yet but I think this is what we need 👍👍👍👍
