the thing I find most interesting about Ushoran is that he's the closest WHFB ever had to a 'good' vampire. He was loyal to his people (ie just ate criminals) and tried to be just - so much so that vampires turned on him for it. That duality feels very present in current FEC.

I've always loved the idea of an FEC hero whose whole deal was they were aware of the delusion and knew what they saw wasn't real. If they concentrated, they could pierce through it and see what they and their people had become. Unlike most ghouls, who would retreat back into madness upon being faced with this knowledge, the hero's sense of duty kept them lucid. Their subjects were owed the comforting illusion, but the hero didn't deserve it. Instead, they played along with the delusion for the sake of their subjects, leading them on campaigns far from the domains of goodly folk. Making perpetual war on the greenskins and Chaos and other horrors. He may be a monster, but he's still a king. Kings are rivers to their people. Leading, protecting, and providing for them. No matter the horror and pain, this Duty is paramount. I can imagine the Summer King serving this kind of role. He created the Flesheater Courts. It's only right he take responsibility for them.

I wonder if all the original Harbingers lead up to their respective armies getting new stuff. Like Rabble-Rowza was the Harbinger of Trugg, and Marrowscroll Herald seems to be the Harbinger of the Summer King. Fyreslayers need a range extension and Nurgle could use some updated models (Epidemius and Festus) and new ones (Pestigors?).

The army started literally with 3 boxes and hasn’t much changed from it. I kind of don’t want a full range refresh, but what I want to see is a new Varghulf and a box with the three Courtiers. I think it’s staying power is they shoehorned a great story into this remnant faction.

Man I feel your pain. My wife's first army was Swift Hawks, and she loved them! It was devastating when they squatted them. She eventually started Nighthaunts, but her level of investment in the game was never the same. What I would love to see? 1. Ushoran of course. 2. Actual Courtier models that are dual kits. Ghasts that can either be a Courtier, or a one spell court wizard that can sacrifice casting for a turn to give an abhorrant +1 to cast. Crypt haunters that can either be a Courtier or royal banner man that is a totem and has a -1 rend aura. Infernals that either is a Courtier or royal trumpeter that is a nice ranged mortal wound dealer. Varghulf that are either Courtiers or a royal champion that has additional attacks, a better save, and the bodyguard rule. These would give the player's real choices on what support heroes you include and can greatly impact list performance. 3. Special characters for each sub-faction. I want a completely blackened and charred Blisterskin Winged high priestess that worships the light and has a prayer that deals extra damage to death units. A gristlegore abhorrent huntsman with two large ghoulish hounds, that is famed as a tamer and slayer of beasts and monsters. A hollowmorn abhorrent general on a ghoulish mount. He would be the strategist and tactician of the faction. A morgaunt king that is a huge fat abhorrent with a big bone club that is a beat Stick that you have to focus down or he will heal from feasting. Lastly, Ushoran's royal jester, who ironically isn't delusional. Which makes him crazy as he can't piece the delusions of others and he fully comprehends the absolute horror that his bloodline has become. The only other thing I can think of are bat swarms. For a cheap, deep striking, harassing unit. Soulblight don't have them anymore, so they are available. A lot to ask for, but we are wish listing.

i sold my FEC about 2 years ago that this point. I loved them. Their lore grabbed me. The issue i had was the lack of model range and updates on the horizon, here we are 2 years later and i still have no update.

FEC definitely sit in that sweet spot, of a sort, where they sell enough to be worth keeping around, but GW haven't seen the need to invest heavily in (until recently). Their theme of delusion and twisted nobility - gory and tragic at the same time - is the real selling point for most people. They like their "blorbo" factions, as it were. That they're easy to paint and collect helps immensely. Some folks might even say the jank old models make them _more_ "skrunkly scrimblo", in an "ugly cute" sort of way. [Insert Walter White "Jessie what the hell are you talking about" meme here for the readers who have never heard these terms before.] On the subject of models, I definitely want to see some real cavalry. Like the kind Clay Beast Creations puts out. Moreover, I think such a kit could work as a way to give some light ranged options to the army. The kit could either build cavalry with melee weapons (makeshift lances or great weapons), or cavalry bearing a bunch of throwing spears/harpoons. It would still function as a mobile army that focuses on melee, but you could do either some hit-and-run, or do some short range shooting before charging in. It's the same general principle that makes me want to see Blades of Khorne with some skirmishing ax-throwers. It's cowardice, it's just softening up the foe before engaging in close quarters.

I think that the FEC should definitely have a "not" analog for everything you'd expect Brettonians to have, including the trebuchet. Just have a ghoulish giant throwing rocks. Have the options for an alternate melee build. It's not hard. If you want to make it a little edgy you could say it throws bodies instead. One's as good as the other.

I also really appreciate the show yall do, it gives such an all around insight to the game and hobby as a whole. Yall do such a great job of disseminating news, and providing a discourse that paints a picture of what the game and the community is which i think is useful for newcomers and folks who cant play as often as they would like. I'm starting to get into 40k now with 10th & combat patrol and i really wish there was an equivalent there.

I was building up my Soulblight by buying some FEC starting boxes. Then decided to paint the ghouls, buy the FEC book and had another army! Doesn't hurt that the background of the army is interesting and unlike others in the game.

For FEC still existing i really hope that the 4 hero models that came (nurgle, gloomspite,FEC and fyreslayers) are foreshadowing a new range refresh for all of those factions. With Trugg and the BIG PIGs i hope they pump out more models for these factions before 4.0

The Rumor Engine is a Kroot Gun from 40k, specifically a twin-linked Kroot Gun, which historically only existed in the rules of the Great Knarloc from Forge World. I think there's going to be a new Kroot release in the future.

With regards to upgrades and replacement, I think you guys nailed it. This army doesn't need a million new units. Just a couple refresh and 1 or 2 new big units. I would love to see another monster. And an animal (dog/wolf) would make a lot of sense. The only miss in that warcry box were the baboon boys. They just don't fit the aesthetic. That would have been a perfect place to slot in some kind of undead hound. As a big FEC fan and collector, thanks for this episode. Really enjoyed it. Cheers!

I think the new sprue that got leaked are "squires" who are on a path to become a knight. As for ranged, Ghouls using bolas who think they're archers would be ok with me.

I thought I remembered something in the lore about them having little cherub like winged bat beasties, I think a unit like that similar to chem-skinks or furies would be a good add. Conceptually they could either be yeoman slingers, that could pop out if the board and throw some rocks at a hero, or could drop down en masse and tear one apart like piranha.

From leaks I’ve heard from others and following the similar idea as the harbinger, it sounds like Fyreslayers could receive similar treatment. Also “revitalising” the somewhat already stale range with a couple of kits.

As a huge fan of fec and someone who has a fully converted army to have them have elements of the Empire from fantasy, the last thing I want for this update is them wasting too many new things on updating old stuff. I think the leaked sprue doesn't replace ghouls, it'll be a more elite, maybe 2 wound option on 32mms, since they look noticeably larger than current ones. What I want to see is: Ushoran Leaked ghoul unit New varghulf Some kind of beefy elite version of knights. I'm talking 6 wounds minimum, 60mm bases, holding weapons and having armor. Something surprising, maybe something kind of light cavalry like, just something entirely new role wise.

I would love to see a trebuchet made out of bone with tendon/sinew as ropes. Could launch all sorts of things: firey exploding rounds, giant skulls, rocks, bodies as someone suggested, etc

The whole "haha theyre brettonia here's my conversions wearing silly hats riding pretend horsies" aspect of FEC never appealed to me. It just seemed like a dumb meme army. But what sold me on the FEC is the archregent. He's one of my favourite AoS models. He doesn't look like a ghoul cosplaying a hero, he looks like what a hero ghoul would look like. I want him to step on me. I really hope the FEC refresh doesn't lean too hard into the silly aspect. I know some dig that, but I want the carrion king to actually look like a terrifying ghoul lord. Also complete curveball, but ghouls have a strong association with Lovecraft and it would be wild if further down the line they lean into that.

Hear me out for this possibility: They wanted to squash FEC with vyrkos. Think about chadukar being ushoran and the varghulf model. They are animalistic minded, almost feral. Strong in magic and horde ish.

I do not believe that the leaked sprues are regular ghouls. They are probably some new unit of elite ghouls akin to grave guard. The Dawnbringers boxed sets will be out for at least another 6 months and I highly doubt they would be selling models that they intend to cancel. However, this is GW we’re dealing with, so maybe they will.

My wishlist for FEC: real knights, archers, Ushoran. I’d also like to see the army move away from magic and instead go priests. Lean into that heavier since that’s different and could be very thematic.

I am getting back into the GW hobby and FEC are prime evidence in why I'm extremely cautious to buy anything AOS outside of Chaos... So many limited factions, or others who have basically not gotten any kits since their last Fantasy release. Skaven, Fyreslayers, Beasts, IDK... so many factions that feel so incomplete and neglected... Tom said it right when he brought up Bretonnians.

I know it smacks of Legions of Nagash, but I feel like the concept of Flesh Eater Courts is just so similar to what they're already doing with Soulblight that it would make more sense to have them in one book. You call them the Legion of Flesh and Ushoran is the Mortarch of the Feast (or something equally metaphorical). You then hyper-focus the Legions on the units that are "theirs" (ghouls for Flesh, vampires for Blood, and the summonables for Night) while the Dynasties are hybrids of the Legions (Vyrkos is already a hybrid of Blood and Night, Avengorii already wants to be a hybrid of Flesh and Night, while the knightly stylings of Kastellai already want to hybridize the themes of Flesh with the vampires of Blood). I just think thematically it doesn't make tons of sense to have this one clear offshoot of the Soulblight as their own thing despite falling well within the bounds of what they're doing with the Soulblight as a faction. We also already have books that do this exact separation within a single faction battletome; Orruk Warclans does this across what could be three armies, Ogor Mawtribes does this across what could be two armies, all the Chaos God specific books do this with across two armies (daemons and mortals), and even Cities does this (as much as we hate it) by dividing out the races as separately as they have. Plus, maybe if they combine all of this, we could actually get another Death faction that is truly unique in theme and flavor from the ones we currently have. I don't know what it would be, but I know they sure could use some exploration into the priest side of undeath. Plus I also think they should have nine mortarchs since there are nine Books of Nagash, and in order to have that many mortarchs you need more Death factions.

Well, remember that we have Mortarches in the other death armies already (Nighthaunt and OBR respectively) - it would make sense for FEC to have one, even if he is an exile and rejected from Nagash's court.
