The only real way to get it to stand out is in how you approach it. Because at the surface level, yeah, you just have The Prodigy with a few extra layers. This is where it helps to get a little creative IMO. Hell, go cinematic with it if it means clarifying that you didn’t just recreate Voodoo People or Hotride and call it something else

Grunge is really already present for few years in mainstream hip hop in form of rage stuff. Yeat,pbc,ken carson, destroy lonely and others. Its kind digital version of grunge from 90s with less of organic sounding stuff.

Although New Jack Swing first merged in the late '80s, it's really more associated with the early '90s. Bell Biv Devoe's "Poison" came out in 1990. The movie "New Jack City" came out in 1991, as did Michael Jackson's 'Dangerous' album (which had several New Jack Swing tracks produced by Teddy Riley), and The Arsenio Hall Show, which featured many New Jack Swing artists as musical guests, propelled the genre into the mainstream in the early '90s. As for Hip-Hop, I'm down for anything new. The whole trap-derived sound has been soooooooo played out, it's a joke. It's time to bury it in the ground.

I've been a believer in the cycles concept in popular music for a long time.. I was born in 1987, so the recent 80s-pop resurgence has been super nostalgic for me, even though it's a period I was far too young to associate actual memories with.. Instead I think my brain creates emotional connections automatically when I hear it, which is really interesting. But I've been considering the 90s thing for a minute, I had a feeling it was coming soon but I had no clue what it would actually sound like. This video was definitely interesting for me since even before realizing this boom of Rap Rock was happening I was mostly making beats (although stylistically it's something more leaning towards what Billy Woods, Lil Ugly Mane and ELUCID would rap on than Slowthai) that sampled a lot of Rock/Metal artists. I might even site some of these artists as my main inspirations over most Hip Hop artists tbh. Bands like Manic Street Preachers(their earlier works), Swans, Soundgarden, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Electric Wizard, Shining, Unwound and Black Flag all influenced me heavily when it comes to both sound and lyricism so it's really cool to see this phenomenon being more common

I feel like the next wave is going to be between the Earl Sweatshirt/Alchemist, MIKE, or even Griselda sound and plugggnb ect, because those are the most prominent underground sounds that aren’t technically mainstream, and don’t get me wrong I can definitely see that ken karson, or kinda rock rap sound being mainstream but it’d be really niche, or have a low chance of doing so. Pluggnb and that abstract soul/boombap-ish sound is the most reaching niche of the underground and thats why to me I think it’s between those

great video! one thing that I think about a lot as an aspiring producer is the history of recorded music, but primarily how that impacts modern day music. In the last 10 years or so, we've had a lot more accessibility to countless eras and times of music unlike any year beforehand. Likewise, its easier to discover new music from any style or any time in history. Compare music platforms to the early 2000s for example, we don't need to go out, find a CD someone might have reviewed, and check it out, you can just swipe a screen and find polyrhythmic gregorian chant music if you wanted. That being said, this era in the music industry is really unique in history because of how many producers throughout many years can implement their influences of any year or style of music into modern music. To build off your mentioning of the cyclical nature of music, I think the era of music we exist in is the equivalent of duct taping that cycle onto the wheel of a Porche 911 on the autoban. Artists are trying to get the motown tonality feeling while incorporating phil collins styled snares with gated reverbs, and this could al be on some ska track. Ultimately this is all fun and good to think about but so what? I think if you're an aspiing producer, you should go out of your normal listening routine and find something you might not have heard before and break it down and allow it to drive you to create something new. How does Joy Division craft an ambiance and where do the instruments sit in the mix? how does that compare to a Funkadelic mix? Whats the tonality difference between 70s funk drums and 80s pop drums? how would you create that? I think by doing exercises like this will fundamentally make you a stronger producer but also help you find a blend of different genres through time that might not have been done before.

I don’t see it going from 808’s to this style of Hip Hop. More so it’s probably going to go back to more of a sample based form of Hip Hop. This kind of Hip Hop will not get in play in the clubs or cars nowadays. Maybe it’ll work on a smaller scale as far as some niche off brand underground stuff but not on a large scale. Sample based Hip Hop is about to take over again.

Which isn’t true, despite what youtubers may tell you underground hip hop is deeper than Griselda (which is hardly underground these days) who aren’t that grungy anyways, if anything in recent years I think there’s been a much bigger return to acoustic and live sounding music underground than anything more electronic. And pop music certainly isn’t gonna become any more dirty anytime soon. Listen to that new Drake album, or really any other pop album. I don’t see much distortion there.
