On the one hand, Cultivation "cultivating" replacement vessels for the shards with Taravangian, Dalinar, and Lift makes so much sense. On the other hand, Kaladin's arc is much more tied to Honor than Dalinar that Kaladin is a better fit for the shard. And Dalinar's "unite them" feels like he's supposed to reforge Adonalsium. Anything else just feels too small.
@timotea710910 ай бұрын

A counter to the Syl theory, even after what happened to her in WoR 4:09 , Kaladin was referred to as a child of Tanavast. I personally suspect the title either has something to do with qualities of character, like Kaladin has the closest personality to Tanavast before his ascension, or there is something special about him in some other way, Idk, its one of my biggest questions that is very likely answered in LESS THAN A YEAR. Im so stoked to read it. And also that whole thing with the spear is pretty damning, specifically the death rattle.
@박경택-h3p9 ай бұрын
One bulk of why kaladin survived the attack on the sibling while all the other radients fell unconscious was because of kaladin's closeness to tanavast. Whatever tanavast wanted the knights radient to be and act, Kaladin did it over the top. This aligns with why kaladin is called the child of tanavast and why I think kaladin will ascend. (all this was answered by brandon in a q&a) Maybe dalinar's quest is to unite the splintered honor shard?

I have been considering doing that for while, although I haven’t gotten around to it yet. How did you deal with the knights radiant chapters that jump between POVs? Did you just hunt for the Kaladin POV in those chapters when you did the Kaladin only read through?

@@CombativeRoboGuy yeah, it depended on the chapter and how mixed up it was. Sometimes I just read the whole chapter on the Kaladin one (which I did first) and then just skimmed it on the Dalinar/Adolin (which I did second). The only thing you haven't mentioned: The 5th ideal. We know for the skybrakers it means becoming LAw. But we don't know what it does to a power set yet. We don't even know if any previous Radiant made it to the 5th ideal. So unless the 5th ideal will let him master storms, I don't think the fifth book wil have any link between Kaladin and becoming Honor But another Death Rattle taht can be counted: "Three of sixteen ruled, but now the Broken One reigns" Although I think this will be the end of the entire series. But Kaladin often talks about being broken: "Life breaks us, Teft. Then we fill the cracks with something stronger.” "‘I’m not some glorious knight of ancient days. I’m a broken man. Do you hear me Syl? I’m broken."

*Spoiler alert. Within the sample chapter of Stormlight 5, Hoid hands Kaladin a flute and tells him that Kaladin must learn to play the flute without playing it! I was totally confused by this statement until I remembered this death rattle by Cenn. He sees a vision: "He watches! The black piper in the night. He holds us in his palm... playing a tune that no man can hear!" This isn't a reference to Hoid in the Coppermind so who could this be, Kaladin post ascension of some sort?
@cookiediangelo85118 ай бұрын

Great video Mr Cremling! I don't know from where we now that a sliver of Tanavast survived, but could it be the Susfather? Or the explanation of the Stormfather acting out of character? To respond to your questions, I think Honor being reforged would not happen before theend of book 8, if it happens before the end of 10. The threat of Taravangian would be smaller if there was a trustworthy shard on roshar as well. I think Kaladin might say the fifth oath in the next book, but I don't see how it would coincide with the last deathrattle, as the previous ones were him saying an oath, and I think those events are clearer for futuresight, than him just giving up.

I've had some similar ideas to some of the things you mentioned. I do believe that Kaladin will become Honor, we know the splinters of honor don't exactly go away, and I believe that he sometimes "touches" a splinter of Honor...I believe the times he does this is exactly when he is called Child of Tanavast. Now I do think Dalinar will be the one to unite the splinters and recreate the shard itself, but that he will not (and probably could not) take up the shard himself.

“Light grows so distant. The storm never stops. I am broken, and all around me have died. I weep for the end of all things. He has won. Another thing, "Kaladin is currently immune to the Thrill, although he may have felt it in the past", coming from Coppermind, in the trivia section about Kaladin. My suspicion is that he has investiture from Honor, or is in proximity to it (Syl) to shield him from the effects. Or, it's also possible that his very nature has shielded him from being susceptible to the Thrill. But I suspect that regardless of what his deal with the Thrill is, he has exposure to something lingering from Honor or Tanavast. Maybe Syl herself was invested while she was slumbering? Cause Honor died after the Recreance, and Syl was slumbering by that point. I think this could point to a gathering of splinters to reforge Honor. She also notably speaks in small caps, which is a first for spren, and the only instance; prior to Kaladin swearing the 3rd Ideal. This could all be a stretch for all I know, but I feel like there is some meat on this bone.

But I think he's been writing Aidalins character development to be the perfect candidate (eventually). Example, not bonding a spren and his loyalty to his dead blade or honoring the memory of Maya. Then take into account him going on trial for all humans.

A crazy theory I've been thinking about for a bit bit now is that both Dalanar and Kaladin will take up Honor simultaneously and split the shard, kind of the opposite of what happened in Mistborn. This assumes the baby champion theory is correct and Dalanar loses the contest of champions. Teravodium then has full control of Dalanar, knowing full well that he has some strange connection to Honor due to his ability to summon Honor's perpendicularity, and instructs him to take up the shard of honor, likely sacrificing the stormfather in the process to facilitate (and making a "stormlight archive" necessary since investiture on the planet is no longer readily available). However, some forces among the radients, likely led by Wit realizing that something strange is going on with Odium after their strange interaction in the epilogue of RoW, realize that something has changed and the contest of champions will not go as intended and they will likely lose Dalinar and thus control of what remains of Honor (e.g. access to the perpendicularity), and thus start looking for a replacement, the most likely being Kaladin due to his alignement with Honor's intent. Thus, I think that after the contest of champions both will simultaneously attempt to ascend and split the shard. This would set up the continuing conflict in the back half - Odium has gained power but not won, so the battle continues. Moreover, this split would likely change the rules of the game - Odium's army would have more access to and control over a form of stormlight. There is also a possibility in my mind that this may change the battleground - we know from WoBs that shards are to some extent trapped on the worlds they invest, but if you have two new shards, each on a seperate side of this war, that cannabalized much of the investature on Roshar to ascend, they may become more mobile, which would cause the battle to spread to the rest of the cosmere. This trend would be in-line with a lot of what Brandon seems to be doing with the cosmere, allowing characters and even the magic systems to move to other worlds. It could even have a role with how future radidents are clearly able to get off-world, something which Brandon has stated is almost impossible during the time when SA takes place. All in all, this is probably just a bit of a crackpot theory, particularly as I am not someone who goes deep into analyzing all of the death rattles, but it is something that I think would be an interesting development for the cosmere

I think Kal dies sacrificing himself to save the day, leaving behind a cognitive shadow. Dalinar will unsplinter Honor. Idk if he’ll take the mantle though. I could see something less straight forward happening here since it’ll be the most active we’ve seen shards so far in the cosmere
@s.p.850810 ай бұрын
Every time I hear someone bring up the theory that Dalinar or someone along those lines reforms the shard it just leaves me with a bad feeling. Shards being shattered is one of the largest aspects of the Cosmere that provides a sense of high stakes for even the gods. Odium’s entire plan was to shatter all the shards except himself. Shattering a shard is series business, and Brandon hasn’t even confirmed whether reforming one is possible from what I understand. You are telling me that a human can reform a piece of infinity (a shard) that has been splintered? If that is the case, it seriously decreases the stakes of the story and of every shattering thus far, as they can simply just be reformed like new. I have never liked that idea and I really hope Brandon doesn’t do it. As far as my theory on Kaladin’s fate goes, I think there are 2 options: 1. The saddest (and imo most likely) option is that he dies in book 5. His arc is almost at an end. I don’t see Brandon giving Kal a happy ending, I just dont. I think he sacrifices himself to save the rest of humanity, giving the ultimate sacrifice and embodying the ideals of what it means to be a Windrunner. 2. He becomes a herald and travels to Braize to give the humans of Roshar some respite. Overall, I am very excited and nervous to see what happens to my favorite fictional character of all time. I am prepared to have my heart shattered, but we shall see.

So my theory! I do think Kaladin will become Honor, though I am not sure how. However, I have a bit of a theory of his final ideal. Everyone was about further in regards to protecting. Those who need it, that he can't discriminate when it comes to protecting and accept that he can't protect everyone. I think the next step is to understand his role isn't to protect, but rather to make sure that in the end, others don't need his protection. That in the end, he has to let go of that too and instead help others grow so that they can fend for themselves.

I have a fun theory; Kal gets a splintered shard of Honor stuffed into his dead corpse's heart, and he ascends to something in between a Herald and Honor. I also think the ten orders would be relevant to that kind of resurrection.

Also in sunlit man sig sil thinks its kal trying to contact him through the spiritual connection only to find out it was Hoid. The only reason Kal would be around to contact him thousands of years in the future is if he becomes a supernatural being of some sort.

People make a big point that Nomad, leading up to his brief chat with Hoid, thinks that he sees Kaladin. Of course, he doesn't but some people take this to mean that Nomad believes Kaladin to still be alive at this time, even though it is hundreds? of years later. If he were a Shard, that could not only explain how he is alive but also how he could have believably gotten to this strange planet in the middle of nowhere. Though, i , personally, just think that Nomad mistook what he saw and was lonely so, seeing his friend there, even though he knew it was impossible, he was not going to question it right then, lol.

I don’t think falling outside the “chosen one” trope means that Kaladin can’t pick up the shard of Honor. Although Sazed obviously was an example of this trope, Taravangian certainly isn’t, so it’s not a necessity to be chosen.

“The journey has ended” doesn’t need to be interpreted as the end to his life. His final ideal might have to do with knowing when NOT to protect, so his strength (morals) won’t allow him to save someone he thinks he should protect (Dalinar in the battle?) which makes him feel weak or powerless.. the journey has ended here might mean the conclusion of the main arc.

SPOILERS FOR MISTBORN/SECRET HISTORY I’m not so sure about Kaladin becoming Honor’s vessel. If the death rattle „death is my life..” is about him I doubt it’s referring to ascending as we’ve seen Kelsier be able to give the power up after using it. So in theory taking up a shard wouldn’t necessarily be death for Kaladin as he would be able to give the power up and be back to his body. Of course this might just be a metaphor, for his „mortality being over”, not actual death, which makes sense now that I think about it And there is also discussion if what Kelsier did is replicable since his situation was rather unusual (being a cognitive shadow, bonded to power and all that) Regardless can’t way to see what Brando has in store for us, feeling this gonna have the biggest sanderlanche to date

Kaladin is the closest thing to Jesus that Sanderson has ever written and given Brandon’s penchant for making deities of characters, Kaladin will almost certainly ascend

Odium came later... With humans. He's alien to the planet. Honor and cultivation were the original shards of Roshar. Era two is only 5 or 10 years after era One ... Unlike Mistborn. It's not like we spoke expect a big cast change. The way I read the scene in the Sunlit Man where "Nomad" meet with Hoid and at first thought he was seeing Kal, was like he was seeing more than just a long dead ghost.

My theory is very basisc: Dalinar will lose the duel, leading to kaladin taking the oath to "lead humanty" (I think this because we have seen the protection side of the windruners in his oaths, but not the ledearship aspect of them), and he will go on to comand humanity's armys on the second age (sorry if there are any typos, english is a second language)

Kaladin will replace the stormfather and start the journey of collecting the essence that is honor. It was Syl's chosen task, the stormfather spren was always a placeholder. Todium will destroy the stormfather spren right before the duel crippling Dalinar. That energy/essence source then flows to Kaladin. The story of fleet along with plenty of other nuggets point in this direction. Hoid "The body died but not the will, within the wind his sould did rise, to win the race and claim the dawn, forever strong forever fast forever free to raced the wind. ( I think the claim the dawn is he will protect Rysn and the dawnshard). Kaladin gets depressed during the weeping because he is already connected to the storm. During the fight the the defeted one he yells " I am eternal, I am the storm. Moash states that is how you break a storm to the defeated one. They came from the pit, two dead men, a heart in their hand and I know that I have seen true glory. Kaladin in Szeth after killing the heart of the revel and cleansing Shinovar. He must pick it up the fallen title, the tower, the crown and the spear refers to Kaladin, the title is Honor, the tower was his whole storyling in ROW, the crown as the new king of the heralds and radiants and the spear. The flute is vital as is Renaran to protect Kaladin from Odium so that his future can not be seen. The old Giffer tells Moash "boy that makes about as much sense as the stormfather playing the flute". The whole point of the Wandersail story was to teach Kal about the Origin, responsibility and how devoted followers can be. Lastly a lot of people ardents included have started seeing Kaladin as divine and will pray to him for protection especially when he becomes the stormfather and sees his roll as protecting and helping people during the storm. They will revere him.

I just thought of a tin foil theory as I was watching the video. Anyways, I was wondering, what if Syl is directly related to the power of Honor in some way? I know she had a radiant bonded earlier, but what if some power of the shard of Honor when it was being splintered transferred to Syl as a way to preserve it or tap into it through the radiant bond? So, Kaladin being able to tap into this power makes him the Child of Tanavast…. 😂😂

Y’all think Sanderson is gonna pull a virgin birth like Jesus/Anakin? Tanavast impregnated his mom or something? I mean Brandon is Mormon and the more this Cosmere unfolds it’s resembling a lot of religious philosophical ideals, but I feel like he prefers these Mormon Christian tropes.
@Danielxt3410 ай бұрын
I would prefer him to keep being human rather than being Honor. Since honor must be in the hearts of men, this would be a better way than reforging the shard.
@Danielxt3410 ай бұрын
By the way the theory about the 5th ideal being "I accept i can be protected" and then bridge four sacrifices for him its very plausible at this point.

I cant see any future where Kaladin doesnt end up dead or as a Herald. I see no way he becomes honor, it just doesnt fit.
