I want all VR to succeed. Love my Quest and PCVR, but there's definitely something to the convenience and immersion of PSVR2. It's probably my favorite headset, but I do hope it gets more attention from Sony, though.

For me its being reliant on batteries when it comes to wireless VR. I'm beyond excited for a reliable headset that has less drawbacks. My only gripe with this pc adapter is that we can't replace controller batteries. I hope if Sony does improve their headset they let us replace these controllers for something more functional.

Im an owner since day one and love my psvr2. Even if there are other good or even better headsets - none can be used with my ps5 which is my main console. Psvr2 has great community, and so many great games! And now I will be also able to connect it to my pc to check some of features that are still missing on console (movies, apps etc).

It’s sad-and quite ignorant, actually-seeing people generally amused or excited at the opinion of a VR headset failing. If PS VR2 were to fail, it would set expectations for other headset developers to omit more advanced VR features on future headsets, such as eye tracking for foveated rendering, adaptive triggers (or something similar since I believe this is a Sony patent), and headset rumble, and instead may just stick with increasing resolution or other basic VR features.

We have already seen both Meta (Quest 3 from Quest Pro) and Pimax (crystal light and super Vs Crystal) roll back the feature set unfortunately. I think dynamic foveated rendering and eye tracking is the genius move that brings us closer to being able to have the same graphical fidelity in VR as current flat games (really we are still at PS4 levels in psvr2) given the same compute power. Otherwise the rendering requirements of two points of view are *always* going to make VR look worse (in game and particularly in an advert) in fidelity or resolution than current-gen flat games running on the same hardware. And adopting mobile processors (like meta does) makes things even worse because it means you start from being behind in graphical processing too. Manufacturers also need to concentrate on making headsets light and comfortable out of the box. Because it doesn't matter how compelling the experience is otherwise. Psvr2 was a step backwards in terms of comfort for me (Versus PSVR1). I had to heavily modify mine! We need to start from a baseline level that has more features and is comfortable to wear! ❤ I still love It though.

I've owned the ps vr2 since launch and love the headset. I also own the quest 2 and 3. I think vr in general has a long way to go before it becomes mainstream. Many that know me know I hate cartoony games, but many don't know why I've been so vocal about it. So let me see if I can give a clearer picture of where I'm coming from. Yes, there are fun games that have a cartoonish art style like D-Day enhanced, Compound, Stilt, etc. So when I bash cartoony games, it isn't because of gameplay, although a bunch are turds, it's because I want vr to become mainstream and like it or not, these games do very little to achieve that goal and actually hinder vr market growth. Car racing sims, Flight sims, CoD type of games, GTA, RE, and others is what will sell more headsets thereby getting more studios to develop in vr. If Batman Shadows looks as good as advertised on quest3, then there is no excuse for putting out a cell shaded Hitman. I hope at some point we can get to a 50-50 split on realistic vs cartoony games because right now it's like 75% cartoony and 25% realistic and that's why vr hasn't flourished

If you have PCVR it blows away PSVR 2 though. But native games, there's a much bigger selection of games, better prices, it's a portable device good for travel, and there's a lot of non gaming experiences. Music production, VR tourism, KZbin VR, adult content. And a lot of games like Thrill of the Fight or Superhot VR would suck trying to play tethered.

@blastofo pros and cons to all headsets. I've got quest 3 when I'm working away, psvr2 at home but I'm not into games that much to own a pc. It's just my personal opinion but agree with you regards tethered would restrict enjoyment. One of my favourite games is swarm and I'd imagine playing that tethered wouldn't be ideal.

@@Disco_Beaver yes a processing unit that is always plugged into a wall and draws hundrets of watts will always beat a mobile low wattage unit graphics whise- no contest. Same is the case for the Switch (2), steamdeck etc. You dont need a ps5 for that, a pc will do as well. And oculus has tried that in the past with games like the first asgards wrath but it wasnt able to break into the mainstream. (VR) game development takes a lot of money and if there is not a big userbase buying these games they wont be made unfortunaly. The quest is the only vr headset so far that achieved a large enough userbase with 80-90% of game sales usually being on quest with mutliplattform games. Its so far the only way to keep vr alive without external funding (which wont happen forever and we are seeing this with psvr2 already)

I'm pretty optimistic about it's future. It looks like Sony are playing the long game, as its future proofed with features that will help it to keep matching top end VR for years to come, with eye tracked dynamic foveated rendering maxing out performance, which is so much appreciated with the vr market being mostly driven by much less powerful GPUs with standalone. Sony know they can't magically balloon PSVR2 adoption by front loading the first couple years with 20 or 20 triple A Investments, some people have a really unrealistic expectation in that regard. They've got to make it sustainable or the Sony purse holders won't see its long term potential. And all of the investment Sony has put into making sure we get high end versions of multiplats has to be applauded, even tho its their own fault it isn't, coz they never actually say they've funded those games.. like legendary tales.. the dev told us Sony massively helped fund its completion. U gotta think every game featured on a state of play has Sony money in them.

​@@coolertuepthe max mustard side by side in this video is an exact of the reason they went with those lenses right before your eyes, to get the OLED rather than grey blacks and washed out colours.. it's the 2 trade offs unless you go micro OLED and expect people to pay £1k pluss. most of any blur is down to the hardware/software, ps5 isn't man enough, Red Matter 2 is crystal clear and rich in colour and contrast. as greata game as it is, it is a fairly basic environments with low assets so the ps5 can run it native 90. GT7 is proof of the ps5 limitations as it is a native 120 game in 2D so polyphony wouldn't reproject it @60 if the console could cope. PS5 pro will take it up another level as will high end PC with some tweeking.

@@clacky78 uhm the comparison video has nothing to do with the used display technology. Thats all just software which is totally unrelated to hardware. If you watch gameplay of a quest 3 game on an oled screen, you get the same blacks; and gameplay of a psvr2 game on a LCD screen will result in no super deep blacks. The PSVR2 footage looks better because the Ps5 (a huge box that consumers tons of power and doesn’t rely on a batterylife) has obviously significantly more performance than a stand alone low wattage SOC. This comes with its own drawbacks though (cable, price etc.) The industry has moved away from oled in the past for good reasons. High res oled screens usually use a pentile matrix (so less colored subpixels per pixel = blurrier image and more screen door effect). Sony removed the screen door effect on the psvr2 with a blur filter which doesnt really help either. Oled does also suffer from stuff like mura and/or black smear. Even before pancake lenses, headsets like the valve index used LCDs for those reasons. The rift s had a lower res LCD over the higher res Oled screen of the quest 1 and was still usually considered superior (youll find many thread discussing that and coming to that conclusion on Reddit threads from ~2019-2020) and both used the same fresnel lenses. The superiority of LCD over Oled for vr headsets did only get bigger with pancake lenses.

If Sony decides to continue in the VR space on ps6, psvr2 will still be really good on the ps6 and it won't suffer from the massive technical differences in the hardware between generations. (they can always super sample to increase the perception of the resolution like most pcvr users do anways) It's also much more likely we'll have backwards compatibility, which was a huge sore spot this gen. Lotta "ifs" though and I'm not certain Sony will even keep supporting VR with all the asinine decisions they've made this gen.

@@jessekoepp3928 1. they basically already dropped Vr on ps5 so its very unlikely to be anything relevant on Ps6 2. the resolution is still way to low and this will be a big factor in the future with all current headsets, not even talking about the fresnel lenses. Even the Apple Vision Pro, which is significantly higher resolution and doesnt use a pentile subpixel layout, is still far away from the clarity of a 4k TV. The PSVR2 is only 18 PPD, which bring its clarity actually closer to the original Oculus Quest from 2019 with its 14,4 PPD to even stuff like the quest 3 at 25 PPD. Apple Vision Pro is 34 PPD and a 55 inch 4K from 10 feet distance is 174 PPD Vr in general has still a long way to go and there just isn’t something like a future proof headset yet. Verifocal lenses will also be very important in the future This doesnt mean that you can just oversee these obvious shortcomings and still enjoy the tech, but you can do the same even on an old PSVR1 if you want to

I believe virtual reality (VR) should expand to reach as many people as possible around the world. The recent improvements in PSVR2 have amazed me, especially with the games I have played. For example, the update to No Man's Sky is fantastic. I would love to see features like watching films and KZbin in VR, as well as having a virtual home space. These are the kinds of features that would make me consider purchasing a Quest 3 but along side my psvr2.

I have both a Q3 and PSVR2- both are great you cant go much wrong with either. My general preference is the PSVR2 for the better graphics, OLED blacks, HDR, haptics etc for most games. Also- trophies! 😆

Yeah a huge processing box that is always plugged into an outlet and consumes hundrets of wattage will always have better graphics. Reality is, that is something that was already done pre quest by oculus with the rift and games like lone echo 1+2, Medal of honor, Half life Alyx, asgards wrath, robo recall etc. Unfortunaly this doesnt work with the mainstream as it usually requires a wire (yes Airlink exists on quest but it has its own drawbacks) + the investment cost is to high. Realitically graphics are also not as important to the mainstream. Check out the 10 most played steam games and you wont find many games with impressive graphics. Well even the top 10 monthly downloaded psvr2 games usually have games like Job Simulator in high places. Reality is, to make vr game development work long term there need to be a userbase that buys these games and only the quest managed to achieve this so far Without the quest, games like metro awakening or behemoth would likely not even exist at this point anymore

A lot of popular vr games are free to play due to mainly kids playing meta headsets and don't have money to buy games. The more i hear about the new Alien game the more I'm actually looking forward to it. I had the privilege of playing Alien Isolation in VR when the mod debuted years ago. It's a great game. But, I just find the level layouts and the androids to be frustrating and make it almost rage quit inducing. The best thing about Isolation to me was the DLC that let you play as RIpley in the 1st Alien ship from the 1st movie (although I didn't find it to have that much replay value.) Oh yeah, PSVR2 lol. It rules. The best VR games ever made are on the system to me GT7, RE8, RE4.

I've never understood the clash between video game whickets. I love my Quest 3 and I love my PSVR2. If it weren't for Golf+ on the Quest 3, I play them about the same. Also just bluntly, we pretty much know about wolverine and astro bot really, and come closer ot launch or post launch, we could just outright get astro bot's psvr2 announcement. I'd like sony to do more obviously, but let's be honest, the psvr2 is being more supported than the psvr1 was, when we were at this stage with consoles, the ps1 didn't even exist. This is 2nd generation vr vs 9th generation consoles, literall y at this point, people were playing fairchild channel f, atari 2600, and mattel intellivision. VR is only going to get better with time, and it's already I'd argue more entertaining than my ps5 and steamdeck. It's getting a lot of support, more than last gen, it's bringing out so many good games that I can't even really play them all, and we are getting constant bangers. Like damn, we got windlands 2 2 days ago and we're still getting the utility room this movie. I have a PS5 and PSVR2, I think it is pretty cool and I will be getting the PC adaptor to try it on my PC. I have been into VR for 7 years, my current PCVR headset is the Pimax 8KX, and I have a PC with a Ryzen 9 7900X and a RTX4080, can run VR games on max setting. I'm looking forward to see what PSVR2 is like, and I think it is very competitive as a PCVR headset, as long as it works well.

I just bought one due to the price discount, but I’m still kinda on the fence due to the titles and how I keep hearing no more support for it, but I presume eventually they will just add backwards support or just keep adding the plethora of VR games already out there that just needs to come across to the PSVR2. Fingers crossed they keep supporting it.

I watched Deadpool and Wolverine on my Quest2...🤷🏿‍♂️ I do more with my OG Quest than most PSVR2 owners. Most of the most innovative software is on PC, but the fact a Quest3 can run a game like Asgard without a console or PC...WIRELESSLY...for wutever the price of a Quest3 is rn...PSVR2 loses becuz its not a stand alone, but still a standalone purchase...and still Quest has the option to connect to a PC...WIRELESSLY...I just don't understand...🤦🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️

I'm torn between the PSVR² and the Quest³. I have the Quest², an aging gaming PC, and a PS5. I hope to eventually get both of the new headsets, but I can't buy them at the same time. The whole reason I upgraded to the PS5 was for the VR, but none of the exclusives have screamed "Must Buy" to me, y'know?

Would go PSVR2 if you have a PS5, I have both and PSVR 2 is performing very good heck no mans sky using the dynamic foveated rendering runs as good as on my PC with a 3080.

I would go with Quest 3 if that’s the case. Discounting the two exclusives with don’t know anything about from Sony, I think you’ll get a lot out of Quest 3 for PCVR and Mixed Reality. I’m currently testing a game for a client and I’m having to use my Quest 2 and it practically feels ancient in comparison to Quest 3.

Why would you go with the quest 3 when you already own a PS5 and you have an aging PC? I would go with PSVR2 if you can get it cheaper. You will have both PCVR AND PSVR2 once you decide to upgrade PC.

@@DissTrackTed It's the exclusives. Specifically, the upcoming Batman game. I have a G29 steering wheel in the closet just collecting dust too. Once I get that PSVR², I'll definitely be playing some GT7, so I'm looking forward to it. I just think Batman might be higher up on the list for me.

Great video. Looking foward to a good number of these games. Whether Sony has given up on PSVR2 or not, as long as these devs and studios keep bringing their games to the platform I'll be happy. I feel I've gotten my money out of the headset and I'll continue to get my moneys worth. So regardless of what Sony does or the narrative "PSVR2 is dead" I'm still excited for the future of PSVR2

Never bought Vr before untill last year. Psvr2 and quest 3. My mind is blown. Both are amazing. But hands down VR2 dwarfs quest3 in graphics. I wont pick up the quest3 over the vr2 for gaming. Im stunned everytime I put it on. Lol

Everyone seems to be expecting Sony to either give PSVR2 a big push or abandon it. And I think the real answer is neither. They're operating their VR support on some level of limited budget and probing the market over time. Their sales are probably both to move some overstock and also find out how much price affects the equation. Sony seems to be taking a cautious approach to VR. Staying in the game while minimizing their risk. Let Meta and Apple burn buckets of money kicking down the door. Sony seems poised to ride the wave when it comes.

They will also step it up a level with the ps5pro at least with increased refresh rates as it's obvious the current one is maxed out although it has done well with it and competing with pretty high spec PC.. GT7 is proof of this as it is a 120 game so it would be easy to pass through if the 5 could cope.. red matter is another, one of the only games running 90 and it is beautiful but it is a low asset game. Well there has to be a good reason for the pro as I can't see there is a major need for it in 2D

It's always been like that for all 10 VR companies. A slow trickle. Sony dropped 7 Exclusives in 2023, I'm not really sure what the fuss is about. Do all the whiners even have all of Sonys Exclusives yet? Synapse & Switchback? Horizon VR? RE4 RE Villiage? Aces of Thunder & 2 more make 10 Exclusives by 2025. I got one for Alien & Metro

The psvr2 is being supported immensely, Sony just hasn’t been releasing. Lot of first party but still funding them. The ps5 has honestly around the same amount of support rn. Like there are so many good games and psvr 2 is quickly approaching the lifetime amount of psvr1 games and it’s also desperately going to get pc support. I like psvr2 over my pc, steamdeck, and ps5.

Sony effed up pricing it so high on release, it's selling like hot cakes new here in the uk on sale for £350 or less. If that was the price of entry in the first place i feel they would have sold way more units and the stocks woyld be super high by now

What I suspect will happen is the psvr2 will still....exist as a platform, but not much else. I was even suprised they were still supporting the system with game's still considering how....tired and unispired they seem to be with the hardware. I truly believe the knocked it out of the park with the headset, a year old and it's still better value than most pc vr headset out now. If anyone is scared It's going to become a paperclip, meta has only now starting to go hardcore on exclusives for its platform, Psvr2 already has RE8 and 4, alongside a newer one basically confirmed to be on vr, grand turismo, legendary tales, Vertigo 2 and a couple other exclusives from PC/psv2. Remember guy's, PCVR is our friend in this, not our enemies. The quest Ecosystem is taking over the entire ecosystem and essentially bottlenecking the game's to it's perfomance, and you can really see that in saints and sinners on psvr2. Those game's aren't nearly as high def as they potentially could've achieved.....

Thanks for this wonderful video! You are the best 💪(VR reporter 😉). This video got me exited for what I can expect on my PSVR2. I am from 82, and have been gaming all my life (with some short drops). At the moment I am so busy with other things that I only have limited time on gaming. And that is mainly VR. I can't get really exited about normal gaming at this moment in my life and I am so happy with PSVR2 that it brings me a new way of gaming entertainment. I support your belief in VR and like your support in all the different systems. I think 'competition' is healthy for consumers. And I agree that in general these different systems help each other in getting VR bigger. Seeing these beautiful new games coming up like Metro, Behemoth etc etc shows that VR has a good market. The only problem with VR is people are LAZY! Why would an overweight gamer who's used to playing games, munching crisps, drinking energy drinks and pizza, get up and play a game that requires you to actually move around and exercise? And unfortunately, that's why the market won't grow as much as I'd like. Until we get true AAA titles in Unreal Engine 5 and be able to play Call of Duty or something else that's 2D that simply looks incredible, the desire to buy a VR headset isn't there.....yet!

It’s a great headset but the barebones UI & amount of great games still locked down to psvr1 is mental. Also why cant you pre-order the pc adapter if its out on the 7th Aug?
