It would be interesting to use 21700 cells since they have higher capacity and higher discharge rate because the lg mh1 cells are not good lack of a better word they're high capacity for 18650 but they lack the oomph I only 10 amp continuous output, and I would imagine that the boosted boards draw a lot more power than the cells can safely handle in a instantaneous full throttle situation and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's why they are unbalanced and some cells are bad yet some are good any battery pack. I would like to use the 21700 cells just because you don't get the double output however there might be a possibility to have them in the same enclosure but I'm not sure I'd have to obtain 26 of those cells and try it out. Side note what are your thoughts on using lipo packs which can safely discharge at higher rates but obviously our prone to fires if punctured but a case around it should solve that issue but then again the charging might not work that's a thought.
@xrgeneralhospital3 жыл бұрын
21700 cells look very possible at the moment! I'm not super familiar with LG MH1 cells, the XRs currently use LG HG2 cells. A lot of packs present with imbalance partly because of old firmware, but others we speculate are due to manufacturing defects. I have 26 21700 cells onhand, and it would seem that they are still too big for the enclosure. I'd love to be proven wrong, that would be cool if we could! I guess we'll have to investigate further with Lipos!

Honestly, I felt kinda dumb buying a mini x just right before Boosted collapse. It's a competitive market right now for PEV's in general, and Boosted boards really demanded a premium for their amazing support. I think it's awesome the community is still trying it's best to keep boosted alive, but I can't help but feel like we are at a point of sunk cost for boosted boards. There are cheaper alternatives that provide more and have "support" from their manufacturers, which is definitely a hard proposition to pass up. If you're a boosted owner, it might be better cost wise to move onto another e-board companysa the board ages. For someone who doesn't have a boosted board already, it's hard to recommend someone to buy one unless they really want to despite the downsides. Thematically for me, the main issue is supply, and until we are able to address it, the future of boosted board community seems merky. Your suggestions I would say fundamentally try to address the supply issue and it's creative no doubt for some of them, but I wonder if they are economically feasible. We also live in a disposable society, so it stands to reason most people would just get something new. Honestly this is an interesting case study in of itself, and as someone who took business in college, I love thinking about problems, finding alternatives, and picking one that solves it the best. Can't wait to see what the community comes up with.
@xrgeneralhospital3 жыл бұрын
I agree, there is a lot of sunk cost in our boards, but I love how you put "support" in massive airquotes. It demonstrates that this is a very early market and isn't ready for cost-optimized manufacturing yet if companies are unable to support the very products they produce. Supply is the biggest problem, I agree. As long as we are reliant on Boosted hardware, there will be broken boards, and replacement parts will be overpriced. So, making aftermarket compatible parts is a way out if we do it right. I believe that the ESK8 industry has a lot to learn from Boosted not just from their failure, but also from their success. They were a tech company first, manufacturing second. We don't have a lot of new tech being developed in the ESK8 industry except from Lacroix with the Stormcore, the VESC organization with VESC 6, and new battery tech that happens to trickle down from Samsung, Panasonic, Tesla, etc. We need to have a tech first approach if ESK8 is to thrive, or else we will have to endure the lackluster "support" for a very long time until someone larger player decides to step in. Why should we wait? I'd love to pick your brain more. There's no concrete solution yet, which is what makes this problem so damn appealing to me. Good thing you know where to find us :)
@deekay94413 жыл бұрын
@@xrgeneralhospital I also put the quotations on there because historically speaking, many of boosted board's competitors are chinese e-board companies that had a history of neglecting customers who needed help. My first board I decided to get was the mini x because it had the backing of one of the most reliable companies when it came to customer support for eboards: granted it was much more expensive than some of the alternatives, but the piece of mind was well worth it imo. Aftermarket compatible parts is a way to circumvent the supply problem, but at the same time I can't help but wonder at what point does it stop being a boosted board? What does a dead brand mean to people when the solution is DIY in nature as opposed to a premade product? This ultimately IMO, eventually leads to the DIY vs Premade Boards argument with all it's pro's and cons. People generally prefer premade boards because costs are typically lower and the product is ready to use right from the get go with hypothetical support. DIYers are willing to spend more time and money to get a more customized experience, but are also on their own. In a worse case scenario, I don't think there are any feasible solutions for boosted boards: we are ultimately just delaying the inevitable reality of a product that is no longer support by it's original creator. However, when it comes to the industry I have more faith in it. What we really need is standardization of the manufacturing process: by that I mean, ease of accessibility and compatibility of parts. Any points of friction cause by proprietary hardware and software will hurt the future of this industry (and micro mobility in general). VESC for example is open source and reduces friction of proprietary software, which is why it will probably be dominant esc in the future. Another important thing is product design that is more user friendly so that people don't have as much of a difficult time servicing/customizing their own board: ex boosted boards batteries look hard to open up and get into if you need to do work on them/ get them replaced compared to other one's. I also think a e-boards for dummies kind of education would be a great way to get customers to understand the products better so they aren't as afraid to do things to the board themselves. There is probably more I could think/talk about but my mind is usually one to have scrambled ideas that come together later on (just like in my college days), so perhaps there might be more thoughts on this later.

@xrgeneralhospital3 жыл бұрын
I agree, it definitely wouldn't be the same if someone rebought Boosted. You are correct in concluding that Boosted Boards will eventually become DIY boards in the end, possibly using a VESC and VESC-compatible remotes. However, since it seems that very few of us have actually made the transition to a VESC-based board, or any other board for that matter, this tells me that there is room for innovation in the DIY ESK8 industry, and that's exactly where we would come in.

It seems like that will be the path of least resistance unless it's that important for your battery pack to say "boosted" as opposed to meepo on it . A meepo boosted clone can cost from $200 on eBay to $999 new . And considering the time and work that you're talking about putting into it it seems as though $900 is not that tall and order as opposed to hundreb of hours with a soildering iron and Failed attempts at creating a Battery pack. I bought a V3 in JUL 2018. I go to work about 6 miles there and 6 miles back. So 12 miles x 5 days per week, only 8 months per year, because winter is harsh on the longboard, once they start adding road salt. But, I also use it on weekends for grocery shopping. It's not the cold, the snow, nor the ice. It's the road salt mixing into water that does the most damage to the board. But I learned that, after riding through two winters. ... Now, I ride slower and use side streets or the sidewalks. Competing with car drivers is crazy. ... Stainless Steel hardware, Titanium Kingpins, Ceramic Bearings, then prepping the board with dabs of WD-40 on certain areas. But the hangers are still aluminum and that rusts and weakens them too. ... The fine road dirt sticks to the oiled parts, and then there's cleaning all that off to be able to adjust things. ... Anyway, if you want to know mmore, just ask, I will try to answer to the best of my experience.
