I have talked about it a lot in my last video and also in the talk live. This time, African countries may have something to do with the future of Gentaro and Kintaro.

He is hesitant in new situations and is a loner.
His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.
He had already turned into a silverback by the time he was 10 years old.
He is struggling with unfamiliar child-rearing.

She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAKK.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.
Second son KINTARO ♂ (2018/12/19)
He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro makes everyone smile.
We can't wait to see what kind of gorilla he'll become!

They’ve been spending time around each other lately. It’s cute. Momotaro may not be the most demonstrative silverback but he is always right there with the family. He doesn’t really seclude himself or stay away.

I don’t think he’s ready for that. A bachelor group would be great for him though. He’s physically almost there but he’s still a boy mentally. A few more years before he starts a family would be great for him. He will be an amazing family man when it’s his time though.

The correct term is mate, animals do not apply for a marriage license nor take vows. These are wild animals and in the wild there would be several females with Momotaro, all mating and possibly having babies. It is totally incorrect to refer to Genki as wife, she is Momotaro's mate. Hopefully he will be provided with more mates, but it appears the females would have to be imported from overseas.

I love , really love Momotaro family. I want to see lovely Gentaro be with his wife and many kids. However it breaks my heart if two brothers feel broken after they are separated. I know nature rules and it is gorilla world. I hope all animals and humans are free and safe and happy.

If you want to create a bachelor group, you would need to build a very large enclosure and have the resources to give them a variety of vegetables; they would also need drinking water.

I live in Denver and we have a wonderful zoo. We have a bachelor gorilla group that we got in 2020 but they have been together since 2012 at another zoo. It works well and they are happy. It would be sad if none of the Kyoto male gorillas got to have mates, and we can see that Gentaro would be a very very good father, but I fear if you break them up they will become sick and heartbroken. Shabani and Ai need to get busy and have another girl if she doesnt want to raise it maybe Annie would or send it to Genki if shes past having her own but I guess kiyo would have to be gone 1st to insure he didnt get to her ... man they really didn't plan for anything 😢

Gorillas seem to be the most complicated large primates to keep in captivity, due to their unique social needs. Orangutans are usually happy living alone but most gorillas desperately need company. or their mental and physical health suffers But they can't live in large mixed-sex social groups like chimpanzees or bonobos. There can only be one adult male, and the troop can't get bigger than seven or eight members or there's too much friction. And also, zoos have to be very careful to prevent inbreeding. These days usually that's done by giving females hormonal contraceptives, so both male and female offspring can stay with their birth families longer. I wouldn't be surprised if Genki is on a contraceptive, not only because she may be considered too old to have any more babies, but also to prevent the possibility of her getting pregnant by her son, unlikely as that would be (she'd probably kill him first!) Everyone loves a new baby gorilla, but the reality is that zoos have to plan these births very carefully, as this is a very large animal expected to live up to 50 years, with very complex needs. There has to be a lifetime plan for it, otherwise breeding is irresponsible.

Gentaro has the distinction of being the first gorilla born to parents that were both born in Japan. It is certainly understandable why Japan would not want to see him leave. It is then puzzling and aggravating why zoo officials in Japan chose to ignore the obvious - that Gentaro would get older, and the dynamics of the family would change. Shame on them for not planning for his future! Furthermore, shame for not planning for all the young gorillas - Komomo, Momoka, Kiyomasa, Annie, Kintaro, Riki and, yes, even little Sumomo. As for Genki and Momotaro - they have been together since he was 10 years old. He has only lived with two gorillas - Momoko and Genki. How cruel if Chiba were to try and remove him from her, especially so he could go and live at Chiba all alone. 😟

It appears Gentaro is rapidly becoming ready for his own family . I sure hope that he gets that opportunity. He would also make beautiful baby gorillas. His dad is very handsome and his mom has beautiful eyes that the males have inherited . You hate to separate them but it is also necessary. Hopefully there will be more options when baby Kintaro is ready for his own family. They are all so beautiful and deserve the best.

To create a batchelor group for the male gorillas would require a large space to build a facility to house them. I don't know what the situation is with acquiring land for the zoos in Japan, but that is what would have to be done in order to accommodate a group of rambunctious male gorillas. I hope this can be done for the sake of all the gorillas. When Kintaro comes of age, both he and Gentaro will both be rampaging and hitting Genki. With her anxiety, this would be bad for her. It would also create a lot of tension with Momotaro because of his enjoying peace and quiet.

I like the idea of Gentaro, Kintaro, and Kiyomasa hanging out in a bachelor group together for a few years; I think that would be great for them. Maybe Riki from Ueno Zoo as well, who's about a year older than Kintaro. But you're right; they need to find the space to do that.

Gentaro has hurt Genki so many times, she doesn’t want to be near him. After watching that one video where he slammed her head to the concrete floor and she hit the left side of her face hard…it’s right after that she got the abscess. That likely was the trauma enough to the rotting teeth to create that abscess. Plus, as horrible as it is, it’s natural they Gentaro is now higher that her in the hierarchy, so she moves out of his way. I think Kyoto City Zoo should look for options if compatible females from the west or anywhere and build 2 new enclosures so the brothers can create their own families.

@patricialee4611-having their children become fully independent is the goal of the gorilla parents.once again, they don't show emotions like us.Genki and Momotaro have done well with Gentaro.he is coming into his own.Pre silverback is learning To be autonomous.Gentaro is right on schedule.Wonderful seeing him grow up from the toddler with the blue bucket 🪣on his head to being 90lbs less than Dad.Momotato is 421lbs!!!!😮😮😮😮

I still don’t think a son should ever “outrank” the mother, but then if they were in the wild he’d be on the outskirts of the troop right now looking for his own mate to make his own family.

I feel so sad listening to the prospects of this group. I think that the zoo should open up an international go- fund page for the Gorillas. I love Genki, however could they introduce a placid young female for Momotaro. The boys need to have their own space. I feel the zoo is thinking about money, not the happiness of the Gorillas. Eu gostei de saber que o Japão e o Gabão, Congo tem uma relação de ajuda quanto a preservação dos gorilas, mas como seria o envio e a locação desses gorilad na cidade de Kyoto? Eu pergunto porque está faltando espaço para a família Momotaro, não é uma crítica, e sim uma constatação, estou na torcida para que tudo dê muito certo, estou sempre do lado dos gorilas, sinceramente não sou a favor de alojamento de solteiros, tem gorilas que estão mais de 12 anos morando em um alojamento de solteiros, então acho que a maior esperança são os gorilas do Gabão e do Congo para formar familia com os solteiros do Japão, não consigo imaginar Kintaro em um alojamento de solteiros, principalmente na Europa que estão castrando os gorilas, acho que pode ter outras soluções, não concordo com asilos para gorilas, Genké mais nova que Momoko, Genki ainda pode ser mãe adotiva se Momotaro aceitar, Totó está sendo muito importante para Sumomo, já que Momoko não quer saber de ser mãe, é a realidade, as irmãs ajudam e Sumomo corre para Toto Nenê não vai resostir a separação, nenhuma delas, Deus me livre essa ideia absurda, minha Genki sem Kintaro e a família, elas não são humanas, que a família não quer ter trabalho, joga para o asilo, no meu País os filhos que fazem isso não são bem vistos, minha mãe se não conseguir morar sozinha , vai comigo, voltando aos gorilas, é uma situação delicada, hoje assisti um vídeo que Annie ficou trancada na sala grande, e depois do lado de fora, ela gritou, ficou ansiosa, acho que foi um teste, Shabani ficou perto dela, até Nenê foi olhar se ela estava bem, quero ajudar, no meu País tem um Zoo que tinha dois gorilas machos, eles vivem em um espaço grande, tem uma pequena cachoeira, é lindo, seria muito bom para Komomo e Momoka.

I think that Gentaro should not be moved unless he has a new wife he can be with. Kintaro should not be moved until he comes of age,he would be so unhappy without mom and dad, especially mom, and mom would be upset too, but I agree that Gentaro needs to be moved to have his own family, to be happy. Genki really hates rain, she is so funny and cute, when she wants in from the rain. Genki is scared of the male gorillas, because Gentaro hits her all the time,if she would just work on having to having a relationship with Gentaro,I think he would do better,he always has to go after her, for compassionship,she puts not much effort, Gentaro doesn't forget anything and I think he holds a grudge on mom, and mom doesn't understand she is not human, but Gentaro is a smart boy, and the more she resists him,his grudge gets worse. Momentaro has been so happy and good lately, for one thing he likes the warmer weather and is maturing more. I like watching Mom and Kintaro together, they love each other so much.

I understand the importance revenue plays in keeping zoos in business. However, it is time for Japanese zoos to work together and make the welfare of the animal residents a priority. This past January, the 6-year-old male gorilla in Philadelphia was sent to a zoo in Nebraska to be part of a newly formed bachelor group. We miss Ajabu. He will continue to mature and have plenty of male gorillas to play with over the next several years. Crowd funding is fine, but Japanese zoos need corporate sponsorships. It's time to get serious, come together and decide where to build a proper enclosure for a bachelor group. Or stop breeding gorillas.

So true! I guess they're at that point now to 'stop breeding.' Unless they're going to inbreed, it looks like Japan is done. Seems like Annie is staying at Higashiyama to be with her brother. It breaks my heart that Gentaro will likely live alone like Taro and Shou. At least, though, Shou was paired with female gorillas early in his life even being at Ueno for a time after the death of Biju. It's just too sad and, with just a little planning, could have been avoided! 😪😠

Besides what you and GL were talking about, Gentaro has the distinction of being the first gorilla born in Japan to parents that were both born in Japan. It is my understanding from acquaintances living in Japan, that his birth was big news in the among gorilla fans and the zoos.

I’d be so happy if they were sent to the zoo here in North Carolina. I’d visit them all the time. They’d love it here. I know they won’t though. Kintaro and Gentaro will be separated. It happens with almost all siblings. They can’t stay with their families forever. Imagine if Haoko and Shabani were still together. Or Oumbie and all his brothers and sisters. We wouldn’t have all those gorgeous gorilla kids. They will be ok and adapt. ❤

The kyoto city zoo is planning to renovate an old ape house. Before doing that, it is a tipping point to receive new female gorillas from other countries. in Japan there are about 20 gorillas. Most of them are closely related on blood line. In reality, no bright future if the current situation lasts. Especillally finding a partner.

Hello GL. Thank you for your updates, thoughts and feelings. Yes. My very thoughts about what will Momotaro do if he is separated from Genki. She is an amazingly strong loving mommy and I feel she cares for Momotaro. Genki will eventually be beyond having children and I sense it will be a challenge for both of them if they separate. If they add another female for breeding purposes to Momotaro Troop I can see how challenging it could be given the psychological trauma from earlier years . . They both needed the stability of one another and I cannot say what change in environment or separation can do to them. This is the downside of zoos. Yet I am happy they are not under duress of poachers. When Gentaro leaves eventually, this family will be heartbroken and I hope they don't get sick. I know stability is important for mental health. I just want to end on a positive note. Wherever they go I will love them. A beautiful family. Once again please send me the link so I can donate to the food fund for Momotaro family. Thanks again.

I agree 100%. I've always thought of Momo being a sensitive fellow; perhaps because he did not grow up with a silverback to emulate. As you know, he was only lived with 2 gorillas during his lifetime until the birth of his sons. He has been with Genki since he was 10 years old and, in my opinion, it would be cruel to separate them for any reason. 🦍 Happy gorilla watching to you!

If I may venture a guess - I'd say pride, lack of concern for the animals, and stupidity. Don't get me wrong, I was not speaking about the fine zookeepers like Ms. Yasui or those that oversee the care like Mr. Nagao - they are fantastic with the gorillas!

I believe he is also thinking of Kiyomasa and Riki. Riki may only be 6 now but the next years will go quickly by. I know sometimes a male gorilla as young as 8 or 9 have been put into a bachelor group.

I would say maybe contact some zoos that have already created bachelor groups and maybe get some information from them to see how to go forward with creating one of your own but please whatever you do do not send him to Europe because they are into the practice of castrating their male gorillas, which is sad and disgusting and should be banned.

Eles estão criticamente ameaçados nasce de extinção, é perverso, Shufai, Maka, Loango foram castrados, eles não vão se desenvolver e se tornar um Dorso prateado, por causas hormonais, Loango tem 14 ou 19 anos e não parece, tem visitantes que confundem ele com uma fêmea, ele é muito magro e está com aparência de doente, é de cortar o coração, a perversidade humana não tem limites.

I believe Disney successfully had a bachelor group at Animal Kingdom in Florida. Disney has a theme park in Tokyo, so it would be easy for representatives from both organizations to meet together.

Гентаро - любимец Киотского зоопарка. В его спасении и воспитании участвовало очень много людей. Его очень любит директор зоопарка. Поэтому я надеюсь, что директор приложит все свои усилия, чтобы за несколько лет подыскать для Гентаро самку. А позже будут решать вопрос с Кинтаро. Он пока очень маленький и у него больше 10 лет в запасе. Для того, чтобы создать холостяцкую группу, надо на территории какого-нибудь зоопарка выделить большую территорию. Не думаю, что любой из японских зоопарков готов это сделать и взять к себе на баланс группу новых горилл. Содержание горилл очень дорогое.

Вы просите о невозможном. Потому что животные все почти,будь они в дикой природе или в неволе. В данном случае в зоопарке, то в любом случае их естественные инстинкты и поведение не меняется. Поэтому в природе самец или прогонит своего сына. Или сын сам уйдет из семьи . Иногда с боем с отцом. Но все равно он уйдет и создаст свою группу, Возможно прихватив из своей группы несколько самок. Поэтому привезти самку для Гентаро в его дом, это опасно и не желательно. Проблема везде с животными. Вы думаете в дикой природе или в нац.парках Африке или на других континентах есть места для животных. Нет, Везде мы люди заселили нашу планету,и уничтожаем ее. А бедным животным становится меньше пространства. И это печальная история.

I appreciate the super thanks. I met a lady at the zoo who donated to the momoro family. This is her second visit to the zoo. Last time we met for the first time, she became a food supporter for the Momotaro family along with my instruction. To be fair, her own plaque is mounted on the international board, which I made a request to the zoo and was ceated all the way.
