Sony was forced by MLB to launch MLB The Show on Xbox, PC, and Nintendo to keep the MLB license. The Persona series is published by Atlus and is not a Sony IP. Sifu, Stray, and No Man's Sky were all time-exclusive games. Forged in Shadow Torch was published by Chinese publisher Billbill, and they decided to release it on Xbox later on. The same goes for Ni no Kuni which is published by Bandai Namco. Destiny 2 was already on Xbox way before Sony bought Bungie. It's like saying "Xbox brought Call of Duty to PlayStation". It's a no-brainer not to pull a game from a current platform.

2:50 Destin's first point about PlayStation games on Xbox feels a touch off base here. Three of the four Xbox titles going to PlayStation are published by Xbox Studios. Surely you'd compare this with PlayStation Studios games on Xbox? In which case only MLB The Show is applicable, and that was a weird circumstance, not Sony's choice. Any 3rd party timed exclusives going to alternative platforms is nothing new at all. The whole drama right now is about Xbox Studios games going on PlayStation, so why muddy the conversation? A side note: Death Stranding is not on Xbox, it's PC only. All the rest listed were 3rd party timed exclusivity. Destiny 2 was a 3rd party multi-plat from Bungie who will continue to operate in the same way. I think it's weird to mention that.

I started watching Destin's channel last year for his fantastic coverage on the Microsoft/Activision-Blizzard deal. I've since realized that he's definitely pro-Xbox and not really a Sony/Playstation fan, and there's nothing wrong with that, but he definitely leans his opinions on the Microsoft/Xbox side on his channel with some bias, and was showing that today as an advocate for the Xbox ecosystem. He was really trying to sell us on it. He has some pretty hard-core Xbox fanboys in his fanbase that can be pretty hostile towards you if you comment on his videos and your comment isn't pro-Xbox or if it's even slightly against something Xbox is doing. It made me stop commenting on his videos altogether and watch his channel less. This never happens to me here on Matt's channel, so thanks to Matt and everyone here for being more open-minded and not so keen on the console wars. We all love video games and it's just fun following the news and talking about it.

@@24LROD As someone who used to prefer playing on Xbox for awhile, I have to say, and many people would agree with me, that Xbox hasn't been good since the 360. They lost me after that system and I have't been back since because their 1st party games just haven't been as good anymore in my opinion. Buying up more developers and publishers just to add more games to Game Pass isn't really the best solution for them. Quantity doesn't equal quality. They should focus on making a couple great 1st Party games like HALO, the game that got me to buy an Xbox in the first place. They've been disappointing for a long time. @bigbeefy111 nails it in the comment he left. And Destin acts like he and his channel are non-system-biased, but he's clearly pro-Microsoft/Xbox. All good, but I just wish he would be more upfront about it and admit that he runs an Xbox channel and the opinions will be biased towards the Microsoft/Xbox side and somewhat anti-Sony/Playstation.

@@countryclub1113 I agree with you about Destin, what's Xbox is doing these days is kinda off, but in my case is the other way around. I was a PS3 user back in 2012 & I played online for free, worked flawlessly. Then in PS4 Sony copied Xbox 360, charging for a mandatory online subscription. Sony also opposed to Crossplay, opposed to username ID changes (later copied Xbox charging extra for it), opposed to backwards compatibility in PS4, proposed the price hike from $60 to $70, charged devs for adding cross-platform in THEIR games, etc. While Xbox is the totally contrary. That's when I switched to Xbox, in the PS4 era. Xbox offered better services, like backwards compatible games, a huge catalog of games for paying my mandatory online subscription (gamepass), PC-consoles cross ownership. That's how I've been playing since, with Cross ownership (called Xbox Play Anywhere) I can literally go to my PC & play the games I own in Xbox for free, even online, without having to pay the mandatory subscription service. Because it's a lie Sony / Xbox need the subscription money to keep servers running, guess what, PC Players on Steam play on those same servers (crossplay) & they play online for free, & regardless, the money of subscriptions goes to Sony & Xbox, not to the server owners (EA, Ubisoft, etc)

The Xbox One was str8 up trash. The only game I enjoyed was Gears of War. And now the series X and S is complete trash. There is nothing worth purchasing an Xbox series X. That Halo game is as fun for the first hour. It’s basically Far Cry. If Xbox doesn’t drop a Gears asap this current Xbox console will go down as the worst Xbox console to date.

No matter how good phones get it's an option for some people. Do you really want to play certain games on your phone versus natively on a big screen with some sort of native Hardware native Hardware? There will always be an audience for PC or some sort of local console. We are like 30 years away from internet to be able to stream all this perfectly to everyone.

Just putting this out there no console has ever topped 200 million sales. Nintendo and Sony usually sit at 150 million a generation and Xbox 50 million. That's less than 400 million total. We are gamers and naturally biased to that way of thinking, but honestly it's not that phones replace console gaming, it's that console gaming never took off to begin with. And no new people are buying consoles (on any platform). There's room for growth on PC and Cloud and Mobile, but without a major MAJOR change (like somehow getting console costs down to match firesticks & Apple tvs and pivoting to being entertainment devices) the Console market has already hit maturity. And we're starting to see publishers really explore other avenues for growth and sales. Mobile phone hardware improving represents the first major opportunity to deliver AAA games natively to the 3 billion mobile gamers out there (though personally I'd suggest pivoting to AA games with shorter sessions like Hi Fi Rush). This could also trickle down and really improve the popularity of gaming on PC too. Iike if games had to be optimized for mobile hardware then they'd likely be a lot more playable on more common PC hardware (because most people don't buy a gaming PC).

What normal person wants to play Hi-Fi Rush on a phone when it's not designed to be played that way (either in its controls or the length of a game session - it's not designed to be played in bites like e.g. MGS Peace Walker)? And who is going to spend even just €30 on a phone game? One solution could be to extend to untapped markets like Africa and China. Growth is not infinite. There is only a certain percentage of people (who also have the necessary money) who will be interested in core gaming. Cloud gaming isn't actually going to add 3 billion gamers. Most of the people it would benefit like in developing countries (low entry cost) probably don't have particularly good internet and still have to buy a controller and game(s) or a subscription. That's still notable extra steps that aren't required to play something like Candy Crush. Microsoft thought PC Game Pass would add loads of people. It didn't. Some of these ideas are a pipe dream.

How many people buy consoles purely for exclusives? Has that ever been a known figure? For me, I picked an Xbox for the ecosystem, the crossplay, the smart delivery, playing on phones, cloud and Gamepass. I didn't spend my cash on a console capable of playing hundreds of games just to play 5 exclusives. And if I want the Sony games, I'd go get a PS.

When big exclusives come out, you can see that it increases the sales of that console on e.g. sites like VGChartz and you'll see percentage increases in official reports. When games like Spider-Man, Tears Of The Kingdom, Halo 3, Gears Of War 1-3, Uncharted 2, God Of War, TLOU, etc drop, it noticeably increases sales. This adds up. Not an exclusive but since it will only be on the current consoles and not last gen or PC initially, GTA 6 will definitely cause a large spike in console sales. Games will always matter more than things like smart delivery.

Second party games should and always have counted just as much as first party ones until fairly recently. Actually, I do see a lean toward Sony when it comes to exclusives. When Sony gets an exclusive, people are okay with it. When Microsoft gets an exclusive, people aren't okay with it. This goes as far back as Rise of the Tomb Raider. When Microsoft announced that game as a timed exclusive back in 2014, they got a lot of hate, even from the games media. FF7 rebirth I think that’s a bad example to use for a game that’s bigger better. They had a lot of that infrastructure in place once they built the first game, character models attack designs things like that stuff you normally would have to develop you didn’t have to develop for the second game, you might refine it, improve it, but you didn’t have to make the wheel. What he was trying to say in context of the layoffs of talent in Activision Blizzard....that maybe they should have kept most of the staff that had many years of experience doing COD etc. And it's the reason he gave the example of FF 7 Rebirth. As one of the reasons why FF 7 Rebirth came out quicker after Remake cause they kept 90 percent of the staff that did all the groundwork for FF 7 Remake. Rather than laying them all off after Remake came out. So that the a new team doesn't have to re-learn again to make Rebirth, taking another decade for it to come out. This is the stepping stones for subscription services to crop up on other platforms. E.g. Release a version of said subscription that allows players to play 'some' titles. Exclusives and games in general aren't going multiplatform no matter how much the Xbox talkbots try to push this. There's a massive difference between PS putting exclusive games on PC 2-4 years after release, and Xbox putting exclusive games on another console platform. And Nintendo is never dropping the wall. The 3rd place console doesn't dictate the console space. All of this is just to rationalize Xbox's recent horrible decisions.

My opinion: Xbox has been hemorrhaging money from Microsoft for the last decade or more. Every 1st part title goes directly to Gamepass with little to no revenue from physical sales. After all these years trying to take over the console marketing, destroying its own console in the process. Now they want to try and take over steam. If you believe Xbox as a console is ok and safe, keep this in mind: Where outside of North America is Xbox really popular? How can Gamepass sustain itself and provide funding for Triple A games? Yeah phones are nowhere near being a console replacement. Or even a viable option for playing high quality games for most people. Phones are better than ever. But so are consoles. So are GPUs and CPUs. The gap between a top tier phone and a top tier console is far too wide right now for phones to begin to be viable. Same goes if you want to compare phones to Steam Deck or maybe a future handheld from Xbox or Playstation. And that gap will not close in a meaningful way for decades. And that is important because top tier devs are going to build and design the best experience they can on top tier consoles. That’s not even getting into a lack of standardized controls, small screens, and terrible ecosystem support. Please stop with the phone thing Destin.

Id prefer they make new games $150 as long as it comes with the exclusion of in game stores. Halo Infinite is a perfect example, they have so much great armour, especially this MK4 event, but with 90% of it being in the store or behind a battle pass paywall its almost ruined the games progression for me as theres always the feeling of fomo associated with the stores armour pieces.

When i bought a new console i bought an xbox because I wanted to play darktide. I prefer the playstation controller by a large margin and it fits my hands better but the sacrifice had to be made because i dont play many games and knew id put hundreds of hours into darktide. I really hate the console wars cuz imo all games should be available on both platforms because why not. We should not have to choose between having both or going without but yet here we are.

The same effect. Gamers are about the NEXT flavor of the month. The new car smell wears off a game, they quickly move to the new one. These guys will beat 100 hour game in a matter of days! Next! You have a WINDOW to sell consoles with a game. Sony's exclusivity window covers the system selling phase of the third party game. The other get the port MONTHS later, after the game is no longer relevant, no longer a system seller...by that time, if you're MS, you're getting CRUMBS. The last few holdouts that didn't get it on PS. One thing I have to give Sony credit for is being way smarter and crafty than a lot of naive folks give them credit for! I want to say I was never hyped but I'd probably be lying. For me my Game Pass Ultimate is finally ending after three years of conversions and reward purchases. And I have to ask myself what has Xbox delivered to me as a consumer in those three years.... and honestly not much. Value wise game pass is great, but all my favorite games are third party and purchased. The Xbox app on PC isn't much better. We still can't use cloud gaming with owned games (still no mouse and keyboard). Xbox is still skipped for far too many third party games even when they don't have exclusivity contracts. They've made all these massive purchases and yet done nothing to build up their own ecosystem as promised. I read the Xbox wire post after the games going multiplatform were announced and my problem isn't that Xbox has no exclusives (though dynamics wise they can't think it's a good decision when Nintendo and Sony don't and will never do the same), but it's that all Xbox can do is make promises. Microsoft REFUSES to do the ground work required to build up the brand and consistently meet all those promises and then some. Even though they have all the resources. Even though they're the ONLY console maker with all the resources. They could build a Stadia like cloud platform that uses Play Anywhere and cloud saves to build the infrastructure Stadia never could. They could build their own Xbox branded gaming mode into all windows PCs. They could just make the Xbox app on PC not trash and the Microsoft Store an actually good place to buy games instead of just a joke whose only merit is PC gamepass. What's happening now is so similar to when they went to steam releases day one. In theory it's a great idea, but in reality it just represents Microsoft giving up on building a launcher and store experience on PC that could rival steam and here we are years later and the Xbox app on Windows is still utter garbage. What sucks is this also holds Xbox play Anywhere back and possibly more games. Like imagine if the Xbox launcher was legitimately good and people used it to buy games and not just for game pass. Imagine if half of all the titles on Xbox consoles were also on the Xbox launcher for purchases with play anywhere. Imagine if the titles that skip Xbox yet get a steam or epic or GOG release, also decided to do an Xbox PC release and then got support for an Xbox port with play anywhere from there. Exclusives are a horrible concept, but I do acknowledge that they represent a commitment from a platform to it's gamers. Not because they can say "I have X game and you don't" but because they cost money to make and when they're only on your platforms that means you have to put in work to make your platform worth buying into to recoup losses. Hi Fi Rush is honestly one of my favorite games of all time now and easily the best Xbox game in EONS and my problem with it going multiplatform is that Microsoft gave up and gave it away before ever even TRYING to do right by it. The game never got a marketing cycle (which would have paired so well with its surprise release and great reception). It was at the freaking affershow for Xbox's summer showcase last year and got passed over by titles like fallout 76. It also never got a physical release or any major xbox branded merch (I would have bought an 808 Series X so fast). I don't think it even has Xbox logos. They did nothing to help it succeed or tie it to the Xbox brand and instead just gave it away for cheap sales. It's pathetic. How am I supposed to believe their promises to me as a gamer, when they can't even make commitments to their own games? Don't even get me started on their treatment of Halo. Microsoft is in such a unique position for success, yet they always without fail never manage to disappoint because they fundamentally can't think beyond short term sales. I still hate Nintendo and Sony's ecosystems more (don't understand how free cloud saves and backwards compatibility can legally not be the standard). But I can't support Xbox as a brand anymore. Not when all they can do for me as a consumer is make promises. Naw. I'll just go full steam at this point. I wanted Xbox to become the only decent gaming ecosystem that spans across Console, Cloud, PC, and Mobile. Microsoft is the only one currently capable. Yet all they can do is self sabatoge. Steam is at least a singular ecosystem with more general benefits (cloud saves, free online) and access to FAR FAR more games than any one console. I'm at the point where I just want one place (ecosystem) to play across all devices, but I feel like Xbox will cease as a brand before delivering on that.
